This thread is strangely painful, like a thorn, because it reminds me of a time when so many of my fellow Shai mains had hope for the class' future. These days I find most Shais are semi-lost for purpose with a class that struggles to fit into the BDO world. It is not that the class is horrible because it does have strengths and weaknesses while grinding. While it is true that the class is far and away from anything special in life skills, there isn't much uniqueness for any class in that regard thus the weakness she has is fairly limited.

I see most players struggling with this class due to a myriad of decisions from PA that seem deliberately placed to hamstring players and their enjoyment. Many others have voiced their opinions on this matter, and for clarity, I shall iterate upon them to help highlight what I have seen.

The PvP damage ratios:

This is perhaps the most literal and visible example of PA's efforts to curtail this class into its role by making it numerically inept at any attempt of reasonable PvP performance. In the past players who identified themselves proudly as 'AP Shais' on NA or later as 'Shois' could overcome this issue either by out-gearing their opponent or simply through sheer knowledge and skill of the class and its' animation cancels. Ironically, whenever PA made it so that gear, stats, and more importantly DP mattered less, the damage ratios affected a significantly larger portion of an AP Shais' potential damage. You probably wonder why this is important in an Artina Sol thread, and that is because raw AP potential alongside ratios is how we determine our damage when in opposition to DP and its related stats. Not having this item alongside these unfair values and changes to DP's effectiveness has ruined this community in the past year or so of development. Finding players who still enjoy this playstyle regularly and in any competitive sense is now few and far between, whereas before it was constantly in competition with the primary DP Style for more casual spaces such as GvG, Nodewar, and DFS.

I understand some in the player base find this acceptable as they think Shai players should only have the option to support. However, as a long-time player, and primarily a support-focused player who utilized DP, I am saddened to see my friends leaving the class and how it has turned our community into a barren voiceless wasteland. AP Shais were once heroes of the Shai Community chat, people you could rely on when even guildmates would not show up to help you with a DFS or griefer. They worked alongside the supportive Shais who lacked either gear or skill and added a level of caution and surprise when non-Shais encountered them in the open world. Yet, as I stated above, this is no longer the case for numerous reasons.

Supportive Shai, you might think would be better. Unfortunately, that is not the case. While crystal builds briefly revitalized the evasion player base with some easily accessible evasion, the truth still persists that in the very late game, the same crystals bolstered evasion can also be purposed for accuracy to an even greater effect for those seeking to destroy it. This is not an issue, but for a class with absolutely no evasion and relatively modest modifiers, Shai is far from being able to secure safety through gear unlike some of the damage-focused classes available. This is offset by the supportive powers granted to Shai, and while she used to use misty haze to threaten more evasive-focused classes, this was ended whenever the skill was placed on a 3min cooldown. Even if a Shai uses it often, there are high odds that the skill will either not be used aptly or if saved for the perfect moment, not used at all. The healing skill does help the Supportive Shai maintain their role, but things could be better. The Sol change would indirectly help the DP Shai, allowing Shai players to try out other support-focused alternatives such as Valk, Witch, or Wizard. It was a very sad day to be told that even though we have all this gear for support, our life skill-focused origins and lack of desire on the part of the developer to see any value in the tag feature for Shai which effectively ruined this potential for Support players unless they spend considerable time and resources.

As for prospective Shais, effectively new players. I will say that the class has some of the toughest grind performances in the early game and a large portion of this is because her default mode of movement 'hop' consumes stamina which slows down grind potential significantly.  To those who reference Yippee as an alternative mode of movement, I have tested this skill significantly. Several issues invalidate the skill from being used as anything other than a novelty skill. The issues are limited turn mobility which can become a problem in places where you might need a tighter turn radius to get through mobs, and collision because when it does occur you can quickly become trapped and either be unable to move or lose a significant portion of time. The animation start and finish sequences on Yippee are too long which makes it slower in short-distance travels, meanwhile, the stamina it consumes is even less efficient than simply using Sun Moon Stars before putting away weapons and sprinting down the same path. The animations and stamina consumption on long sprints not only result in the player traveling slower but also cause the player only to be able to move about half of the distance as another player who does not use this ability. While you may think that this has nothing to do with new players, let me remind you that the strongest item for them to obtain for purposes of grouping is the Artina Sol which takes significant resources to make and forces them to play the Shai class or invest significantly in gear that is not useful to their role as a Support player in any way. As a result, many players feel trapped on this class once they've progressed beyond seasonal. I feel sorry for players who are forced to feel regret simply because they chose the wrong class during seasonal and now have to suffer atrocious mechanics like shai mobility and have no option to tag.

In Short: PA has ruined the AP Shai Playstyle through their design decisions which include the Artina Sol, hampered any enjoyment options for Support Players through CD on Misty Haze & lack of tagging options, and added to the regret of new players by ignoring requests to address mobility concerns or to allow players to tag off of Shai with their Artina Sol.

I am not an AP SHai, but damn this list is depression as fuck! I mean in the end it doesn't say us to much cause ngl...DK might have the loswedst modiviers vs Shais, BUT so much acc that they are still big shai killers.

But on the other side....I think it would be important to give Shai something in return for having reduced dmg vs everything (and for some unknown reason especially vs gauntlets?).

We have so many classes with a eva passive that don't have the drawback from losing dmg over it....we are kinda the only class that is basically "forced" into a DP build (or outgear and outperform everyone else in ap gear). So if we are so special and lose dmg and the ap build choice, shouldn't we get a special skill that help us survive longer?

Would love to see something like: "Dont kill the Shai!" the more ppl hit us in a timeframe of like 5s the more tanky we become. basically like in rbf if ur HP is low, u get tankier from that. I think it would only be fair for a class that is super important to large scale fights and has no defensive capabilities whatsoever on her own beside gear and more gear

First, we want to thank Adventurer Blondiie and everyone else who took the time and effort to share their feedback. From the discussion in this thread, the common point of feedback seems to relate to how Shai's Talent weapon, Artina Sol, does not match other weapons in various factors such as character tagging and weapon exchange coupons.

To give some context, when we designed Shai, we tried a new approach in her class development that deemphasized combat efficiency and competitiveness – and instead, placed greater focus on more unique aspects such as her musical instruments and starting life skills. This led to Shai being the only class with a Talent and the sole wielder of the talent weapon, Sol. And since her PvP and PvE were balanced around this fact, we believe her current PvE performance is at a capable level even without monster damage bonuses from the Blackstar Awakening weapon.

Of course, we do fully understand that Adventurers may not be satisfied with this fact placing limitations on selling or copying Shai's Artina Sol. However, we hope to preserve Shai's exceptional position within the class roster of Black Desert by maintaining our original intentions behind the class.

As a result, we hope you will understand that we do not have any current plans to change Shai's Artina Sol. Nevertheless, we will continue to challenge ourselves to try to give Shai more unique aspects that do not exist in the world of the Black Desert. (Modified Line for Clarification)

Once again, thank you to everyone who shared their feedback in the thread.

AS always Pa being PA.. Given the problems, instead of providing solutions, it brings excuses

I think pa you should focus on solving all the problems of well known Shai, instead of wasting time in little useful things you know the alpaca or dances

I honestly want to know- what is it going to take for PA to listen to us and rework shai into a full class?

It feels like she is 60% done at most, in regards to how many skills, spells and attacks she has vs other classes.

The backlash on her class model is huge. And it looks like 90% of the shai community want to see changes.

We have intelligent and informed users making strong arguments and evaluations on her. Great posts with plenty of valid suggestive content changes.

More over, if she was reworked into a full class it would fix so many problems that are present when making new world content for BDO.
