Welcome New Adventurers!

This guide is to provide guidance to new players who are starting Black Desert. This guide will mainly outline the ways in which you can prepare yourself for a big journey on Season servers.

If you are starting Black Desert during the period where there isn’t an ongoing Season, that won’t be a problem at all. You should use this time to learn about the game to give yourself a head start before you start on a Season character.

I. Create a new character
Choose a class that captivates your attention. You’d rather play a class you enjoy for hours rather than a class you don’t enjoy.

II. Select Starting Zone

New players should select Ancient Stone Chamber to start, as it will allow you to unlock pre-requisites for future content.

III. Progress through the Main Questline
The main quest will have this icon:   
This is very important as it is a pre-requisite to a lot of the content in the game. Ideally, you would want to complete the Main Questline completely, for each region.

However, it is also an option to complete the Main Questline up to and including the Mediah region. This will allow you to skip the Main Questline (Simplified Main Questline) from Velia up to Mediah if you are playing on a Season character.

Note that skipping the Main Questline will reduce the number of quests you will do. However, some players may want to repeat the main questline on multiple characters to either gain knowledge through different quest crossroads or to progress through the Rulupee’s Travel Log, which rewards you with the “30K” title for completing 30,000 quests, +5 permanent failstacks and Advice of Valks (+300).

IV. Talk to every NPC

A lot of NPCs that you haven’t talked will have a yellow exclamation “!” mark ins

ide of a talking bubble (or they will also have a question mark “?” on your minimap). These NPCs give you knowledge which is essential to progress in Black Desert. Getting knowledge will generally reward you with energy, which will be needed throughout the game for various activities such as life-skilling, amity and questing.

V. [Abyss One] The Magnus

Once you finished the Balenos region Main Questline, you will unlock The Magnus Questline. I recommend doing this Questline after you finish Mediah and unlock Awakening/Succession.
Upon finishing this questline, you will be able to fast-travel to the designated region via accessing the corresponding wells of each region (finishing The Magnus for Balenos will allow you to fast-travel to Balenos). You will also be able to access the storage of any region remotely, from any Storage Keeper NPC. At the end of the entire questline, you will get 1 PEN Boss Armor of choice (family-bound) and 1 Abyssal Legacy (Magnus skill).


VI. Gearing
Through completing the Main Questline, you will be rewarded with Naru Gear, Beginner Black Stone (Weapon) & Beginner Black Stone (Armor). Enhance the Naru armors and weapons to PEN.

This step is important as you will exchange PEN Naru Gear for Narchillan Gear once you have finished the Calpheon Main Questline. The stats are comparable to TRI-TET Boss Gear. However, this gear is weaker than PEN Tuvala, but it is still a great start.

How do you get Narchillan Gear?
Once you finished the Calpheon Main Questline, talk to the Black Spirit and accept the quest [Special Aid] Fughar’s Letter (it is in the Suggested tab). The Special Aid quests from Fughar will reward you with Narchillan Gear. Make sure to keep the Canon Awakening Weapon that you get from your Awakening Questline. At this stage, you should do the Mediah Main Questline to get more Beginner Black Stones to enhance Naru Gear to PEN.

You will have an accessory in your Challenges window (Y).

Pick the TRI (III) Capotia Necklace. You will also be able to enhance this accessory with 100% success rate using the Dreamy Crystal of Balance.

You will get 21 of these crystals in total from logging in, so make sure to not throw it anywhere.
7 will be needed to enhance your accessory from TRI (III) to TET (IV) and 14 will be needed to enhance your accessory from TET (IV) to PEN (V).

The reason you want to get the Capotia Necklace is because you will also be doing the guaranteed PEN accessory from an NPC named Jetina, where the ring will be the most ideal accessory for most players. You will also be getting other PEN Capotia accessories from the Season reward.

You will be able to exchange the Capotia Necklace to another accessory of the same enhancement type if you want to, by talking to Jetina and doing the quest.

VII. Reaching Level 56
Upon finishing the Mediah Main Questline, you should be around level 54. To get to level 56, you should do the Combat Promotion quest given by your Black Spirit.

VIII. Awakening and Succession

Once you are level 56, you can do your Awakening quest and then the Succession quest. This is where you obtain the Canon Awakening Weapon, which can be exchanged for the Narchillan Awakening Weapon.

Don’t buy any gear from the marketplace because you won’t need to. Remember that this is for players who are starting during the period where there isn’t a Season. Once the new Season begins, be sure to check it out as you will get more gear and goodies from there.
