This game has always had potential to be good but until fps= dps and animation speed issue is solved and desync and overall consistency in the combat is fixed there will never be balance.
The servers can't even keep up with our unlocked fps movements so often times it looks like people warp to you and cc you instead of actually moving.....
Do a 1v1 with a buddy at 60 fps and you will see that fps unlocking( and what it does) is the issue with the entire game. 60fps fights simply feel more fair and enjoyable. You have more time to react to skills
movement isn't warp speed damage is less bloated etc.
Pvp and pve need to be balanced separately and they have systems in place to do this but yet they keep gutting classes do to pvp changes that nukes thier pve.....
Until these glaring issues are fixed there will never be a sense of balance.
Agreed. The game should cap at 60FPS (functionally) but render at uncapped FPS (basically like comparing FPS and Hz). I recently was made aware of this and just as you said, the servers can't keep up. I could probably render the game at 300fps+ if I were to play at 1080p on low graphics, I wonder what that would do lol. FPS for me is around 100 -110 because I prefer eye candy over performance. Because of that I'm potentially grinding slower and don't see PKers coming. I'd hate to be playing the game at 60FPS or less, there would be no way to win against someone with 2-4x the FPS.
Honestly this is a very deep problem that would be hard for them to resolve. They can't just flip a switch and may require many months of R&D before they even get it to work right.

300fps you will do more damage and be significantly faster in terms on animations
It won't happen. It's not such a problem in Koerea because the infratructre is better there, so there's sadly not much hope that they do something. Plus, as it was already mentionned in another thread, they already tried and the game ended almost broken.
Remember that they developed their engine quite fast (something than less than 2 years) and it was first and foremost designed fo 2 things :
- Eye candy and nice trailers and visuals, allowing them to take the graphical edge in the MMO genre
- Not paying royalties to a third party, like Epic for example.
So you can expect a lot of spaghetti code for what is now a more than 10 years old engine that is surely not as well documented as other more used solutions.
Thing is, with UE 5, the new homemade engine that they will use for their next games (DokeV, Crimson Desert and Plan 8, the last 2 being seemingly lost in limbos) will already look dated when said games will release, on top of not having the huge novelties and QoL that UE5 offers on the backend side for devs.
They will lose their graphical advantage on the next generation of games, as a lot of upcoming games will use UE5, if not the majority, so we can at least hope that they will focus on gamedesign and optimisation instead of fluff.

We literately saw heavy desync back when they had GM showdowns in their Korean HQ. The muh Korean infrastructure is better is a myth. It is surely better than the legendary trash NA infrastructure but on EU there is decent infrastructure yet the game is still shit there aswell.
As for graphics, it's not hard to have a good looking game, you only need high res textures and modells or a lot of filters. On the otherhand having a high performance mmo is what not many achieved yet, not even unreal btw.
Literal noname kids with lot of freetime can pimp skyrim, with it's trash level engine, into some extreme good looking graphic just by changing assets, that's how "big" achievement it is. On the otherhand graphics only increase the hardware demand but not the fun factor of a game....

Credit where credit is due, the modders for Skyrim are really good but that doesn't mean that the devs at PA are bad -- it's just a first time game engine with a lot of college students working together like it's a group thesis. It's fine but it's rough. I'm sure they remade a lot of parts of the game engine over time but some of how the core operates would be difficult if not impossible to fix unless they just redid the whole thing.
It would be nice if they could somehow convert everything to their crimson engine but that won't happen. It takes a lot of time to convert things unless the crimson engine (whatever it's really called) is basically BDO 100% but better. The trailers already look really dated of a game, they will have a lot of joy to try and update it so it's relevant for the next 15 years. I honestly don't envy them =/
Game dev is hard and online games are much harder. I wouldn't judge them too harshly on their first game engine, I'm pretty sure the original unreal engine was a big mess lol

Crimson desert is literately recycled bdo with slightly altered assets, neverthless they not fixed any issue on that game either.
Also fps affecting the combat is so rookie level dev issue, that there is no redeption for that. But yeah, nowdays every wannable dreams about being a gamedev, and then ppl wonder why the quality of nowdays games is so low as it is lmao
And yeah UE is a mess aswell. IDK why the other guy even mentioned it UE is trash for building an mmo, unless you rewrite like half of it (which is possible, and some games do that)

Because you don't seem to be aware how UE5 works and what are the real novelties it offers in the workflow on the dev side. That's why a lot of upcoming games a transitionning into it.
I'm not talking about your more than 15 years old UE3, it's indeed totally outdated even if some games released recently still used it, but if we go that way and take a broader point of view, there has never been any engine that handled action combat in a massive way properly anyways. None.
And the original point was that the new Pearl Abyss engine won't make such a difference than what BDO's did in its time. I mean you did look at Crimson Desert trailers, which isn't even an MMO to begin with ? It runned at what, 15 / 20 FPS during action scenes, with models that already look outdated. But it's not a bad thing. As as said, since they will lose their graphical edgeon the next generation of games, because yes UE5 can do much better than what they showed in these trailers with much better optimisation, at least we can hope that they focus on more fundamental things. Something like not linking frame count to DPS and good netcode would be a good starting point ... But they have to be aware of that, or at least willing to solve it, in the first place ... And it's not a given that they do.
im not being a doomer here, just forget pvp, if you like to clap some noobs from time to time, enjoy.
BDO has just a bad pvp mode and like ppl above said BDO doesn't even look that good anymore and it does play like a old game.
Enjoy BDO for what you like to play it, and no, if you try to tell me you play BDO for the PVP aspect:
I know and everybody else knows you are not being honest even if its to just yourself.

Bdo visually is stunning obviously with a decently short resented distance but it looks great it only looks bad because you have to turn your graphics to Potato to so more damage and move faster.....
