I'm a few months into the game and there are so much to learn and discover, and that is attractive to me in that this is not a game I can finish in 2 to 3 weeks. However, finding out the unspoken rules in this game in a most unpleasant way was quite quit-ready after months learning the game on my own.

I was grinding the Blood Wolf for weekly and daily quests, and about a minite in, suddenly I was killed by another player. The second incident happened the same at another monster zone. There was no information about why this (will) happens from the actual game play, and upon searching the web I found out that other players can kill you if you 'invade' their grind areas, without warning. So how are the new players supposed to know this unspoken rule for grinding monster zones? I don't doubt that this is one of the many reasons why people quit BDO, having to tippy-toe around not knowing when you will be killed. Notwithstanding the guild and node wars (are there more wars I haven't discovered?) that come on suddenly, and you will be killed if you are not in the safe zone. And I found out that killing starts before the war notice goes out - really? So I'm have to wait for an hour or more or do somthing else because of the wars stuck in safe zones?

In regards to the monster zone farming, here is my suggestion on how to fix the issue. Let the player that is farming a monster zone put up a flag(s), with some limits as to how many flags they can put up, which will be high enough to see (and/or on top of tents), which indicate in colors how long they have been there. And if the player does not return in time to collect the flag within the time limit of the flag(s), the flag goes back into the players inventory. That is, if there are no flags put up, that monster zone area is open. Or BDO can extend the private monster zones for all monster grind zones for all servers.

For most people, the loggin time needs to be productive for them and all these unwanted surprises and interuptions defeat that purpose. BDO should provide servers where people can build their digital BDO lives in peace without open-world killing and getting caught up in wars that you don't want to be part of and did not start. My search for another MMO-RPG started yesterday.

I understand you.

Sadly Pearl Abyss kind of stated on this situation already: they won't change a thing about the fact that it's an open pvx game, so with spontaneous killing.

Although, they already did improvements with the Marni Instance to grind peacefully one hour a day in most zones! You could use it!

Also, the players who keep killing other adventurers lose Karma. Being in negative karma makes your gameplay less comfortable since it can downgrade your equipment and you can't go anymore in towns, among other things!

Now, as you are a new adventurer, clearly what I just quoted is not efficient enough since you've been bothered by the actual system. (But maybe you didn't know about the Marni instance? You should try it then!)

About the node wars, nothing is clearly anounced when it starts. But it's one of the mechanics of the game you discover by playing it! Next time you can find the servers where there's no conquest going on! ;)

I remember having hard times too at start and many times I'd thought of giving up the game when I was still too weak against the no-lifers... We never expect toxic people to ruin our game, especially when we don't play as much as them since we have a life aside...

BDO will remain a open pvx game, as PA confirmed today after the update.

So expect spontaneous pvp sometimes.

Now, if you don't want it at all, that's sure that you can't play it without getting enraged by the pkers. (killers)

So sure, if you can't stand some unsociable pvp, move and try a new game.

Anyway, not everybody in this game is toxic. ;)

And for the pkers, you can still ruin their karma and get fun with it! :p

That is fine if BDO will remain an open pkers game. This game has many mini games, venues and events for every taste to keep people interested and busy, but excluding the strictly PvE server is not being inclusive. BDO is visually attractive. It was like playing a new game after upgrading my graphics card to run the game in remastered mode, wow! If BDO wants a wider audience then have PvP and PvE which are mutually exclusive is what I am saying.

That pkers negative karma sounds like a remedy for putting toxic players on notice. Thx for the info. I haven't killed anyone so that is new for me.

There were complaints about that since forever. (and countless suggestions to "fix" it)

Open World PVP has no meaning if there is no higher Content to it like Factions or something.

Here, every player is the same and they randomly many other players with no benefit or farm afk's that autopath(thats why cities are crowded with afk-riders).

I never seen PVP in this game, only PK. The fights are so quick, most fights end with the first stun, etc. and not far from farming A monster.

People dont duell or DFS anymore, they just pk.

The Karma of killing a player 3-5 times can be recovered in unmeaningful time.

So if someone kills you 5 times, they dont even care. They grind this zone anyways and will recover their karma in an hour or 2.

Seems like information about grind rotations, NW/Siege servers and PK players would be more useful than changing/adding mechanics of game play. I would think adding a tutorial to opening quest lines would be more than enough for a new player that hasn't researched or has researched and is unprepared for this type of gameplay before playing.

To Steifan,

I was thinking about the karma recovery time thingy. I see, thx for the info. So that means, this game is encouraging player killing so that players HAVE to invest in PvP gear and join a gang/guild. I read a thread from the chat that offered 'protection' for joining a guild soon after the guild wars. And yep, I was on auto path to a town (not loop) and was killed while on a horse.

You're sorely uninformed about the various systems and player behaviors at play here. Players like you have a great deal of protections offered to them to *help* insulate you from negative player experiences like this. You can't eliminate them entirely, and that's for the best. I can't imagine something more toxic than a new player coming into a rotation that I'm trying to grind, messing it up causing me to lose efficiency, and having absolutely no recourse. You were essentially aggressing on that player that killed you, and that PK was defensive. Think of every grind spot as a King of the Hill type situation where they're meant to be contested. The grind spot you went to is notorious for PvP. There are many other grind spots that this is far less likely to happen to you at.

I hope you can learn to adapt instead of campaigning to fundamentally change the game for others. If you can't or don't wish to adapt, then I wish you luck finding a game that is more suitable to your attitudes.

To ManaMafia,

You don't seem to understand the issue. New players have no way of knowing that every grind spot has a "King of the Hill" rule.

At least when I was grinding and when a player appeared, I would stop and signal with gesture and the other player saw me and left. This took 15 - 20 seconds. On another occasion the other player and I decided to split the grind area since it was large monster zone. This took about 25 seconds.

I don't think it is the game, rather it is the people playing the game that make up the rules and new players finding them out in an unpleasant way.

And if this issue has been addressed for almost 10 years and still comes up, as with this thread, again and again, people that kill new players knowing that new players don't know are the toxic players and need recourse.

No wonder that BDO had such a low monthly login in rate, barely 200k a month, compared to other MMORPGs that log 1 to 2 million per month.

Yep, BDO targeted a precise audience and succeeded in that strategy. No need for millions if you can be successful with hundreds ;)

We know that regulated owpvp is not the most popular kind of setting in a game, yet we can be thankful that PA decided to aim at this audience and stick to this decision. And apparently, it works ;)
