Stop bringing AoS back until you fix the game's engine and core mechanics

AoS makes this game's PvP look horrible, and I guess the game as a whole since PvP is basically the end goal of why we spend so much of our time grinding. I've felt this way in the past, and I feel it even more while playing it alongside Street Fighter 6.

BDO needs a complete engine overhaul and sweeping changes to core game mechanics for the PvP to be able to be taken even remotely seriously instead of just looking like a circus.

Frame rate either needs to be capped for everyone at a set level or you need to make whatever changes are necessary to make it so that frame rate variance doesn't lead to gameplay advantages and abhorrent desync. You also need to completely strip resistances and evasion as stats from the game, it's beyond stupid in an action game for your attacks to still be a dice roll on whether they actually work or not. Slows need to be removed from PvP as well, they only serve to ruin the flow of gameplay and make certain matchups even worse than they already are. Slow classes getting slows stacked onto them by faster classes is just so poorly thought out that it's laughable. Imagine how bad it would be in Street Fighter or any fighting game really, if blocking or getting hit by an attack put a slow on you. It would completely ruin the neutral play and footsies. It would throw all of your muscle memory and knowledge of frame data out the window. It would make it practically impossible to do anything to get out of a mix-up or reset, giving the player who got slow a nearly unwinnable okizeme basically trapping them in a vortex they have almost no chance of escaping from.

It also shouldn't be possible to apply add-ons that burn away the primary resource leaving you completely unable to do anything at all. Stamina usage also needs to be given serious attention. It makes no sense why Berserker can just run away from an entire team for the duration of a match without ever being able to be caught while other classes quickly become starved of stamina. How was something like like this missed? Or is it simply ignored because the developers don't care about making the game good competitively?

AoS is just miserable to play. All of those issues in combination just result in a kind of negative feedback loop where they all exacerbate each other to make one of the most awful PvP experiences that can be had in a video game. But it doesn't end there. Nope. You also have to deal with the terrible match-making giving team comps that can practically decide the outcome of the game before it even starts, leading to the whole ranked grind feeling like it's just gambling. I just can't understand why anyone would want this or like it with the way it is currently. When I lose in Street Fighter 6, I feel like I deserved it, and I can actually analyze my gameplay to adapt to whatever it was that I lost to, come back, and see actual results from what I've learned and practiced. You can't do that with BDO, you're actively fighting against the game's broken engine, the horrible mechanics, and the fact that there's still several literal layers of RNG in every match.

Oh, I almost forgot, the arenas are absolutely terrible too and I can't for the life of me see how anyone could've thought these were good choices. Some of them have horrible visibility with trees completely obstructing your vision, or cramped areas where turning the camera will put it up against a wall or roof, totally blocking the entirety of your vision. Then there's all the inconsistent elevation that's miserable to play with because the skills in this game weren't made with hitboxes to account for fighting on hills or different levels of verticality. On top of it all, there's all the random garbage on the ground or just everywhere to get caught on like fences. I look at these maps and it makes me think the developers hate us or something.

Wow, I can't believe I actually almost forgot about the buffs too. Why are these even here? Nobody likes them. Every season so far people have complained about them and asked PA to remove them and yet they're still here. Why? Why are they still here? Why is AoS still here? Don't put AoS in this game if you aren't willing to do the work to actually make BDO into a game with PvP that can be taken seriously. If you aren't willing to make the changes then just stop, please, it makes the game look so bad.

Competitive bdo is a huge fcking joke. Like honestly, it's not fun to look at or to play. It's biggest strenght is the open world player interaction. I don't know why the keep playing to their weaknesses with aos and boss fights. None of them have ever been good.

bdo is not about pvp to me.

i knew in 2016 that pvp was trash, it didnt change to this day.

You should curb you expectations, every mmo has dogass pvp. If you want real pvp play a real pvp game.

PVP in bdo is just a feature.

Hmmm I agree they should cap framerates in pvp instances and work to fix lag and desync issues but I don't agree with the other changes like removing slows and stats, that just doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe rework how evasion scales in pvp instances but that would be furthest down the list of things to fix right now.

Don't worry OP, there will be diehard BDO players who will swear up and down that BDO plays like a fighting game. I always ask what fighting game????

I tried AoS first time today and i never had any serious PvP in BDO aside from Seasonal stuff and even that was very rare.

What i learned from it:

Con: Its too fast paced and flashy so any form of sidestep and attack or block attack backstep and make your enemy miss attack then counterattack and similar ''Tactical Attack Trade Scenarios'' are not as possible as some of us would want them to be.

They are limited due to the engine's Action Combat being Combo and I-Frame reliant not Parry/ Bash and/ or Hack and Slash.

In terms of Controls i cant say its the best in terms of realtime perception of your opponents moves and positioning.

Even managing your own positioning and movement can be difficult since its mostly done through I-Frame abilities and dashes which do replace regular movement. It does make sense for its Fantasy Flashy Combat however.

Pro: Its enjoyable in its own way. We all love it for what it is.

We also hate it in our own way sometimes...

Tips for new players:

AoS is the best Intro to PvP in BDO.

Once you figured out the basics of your Class and Rabams Crystals and Lightstones and Builds and all the Game's basics in PvE

and after you've made your ''Homework'' about PvP you now have to apply ''Theory'' to ''Reality'' and many things wont be as you imagined it. PvE and PvP are day and night.

The first thing you'll experience is your failures when it comes to experimentation with the Gear AoS offers to you.

The Crystals and Accesories can make a huge difference. This game is highly stat related and plenty of those stat choices might look good but most wont really work and you'll see how easy ''Defense in BDO breaks'' which includes DP/ HP.

So don't overfocus on them just use only what's necessary for your Class. 4 Hooms and 2 Resistance Crystals max are enough but Special Evasion Rate you do want. That stat makes such a huge difference sometimes if you have it.

Experiment with double Knockdown Resist maybe switch one for Grapple and see how many of which you'd like.

Then you need to figure out your balance in terms of AP and Accuracy. Don't go full in either direction since you'll underperform on one or the other. Switch maybe an AP earring and an Accuracy Earring and see how it goes.

Try different loadouts it might take a few matches and you'll find your answers.

With that out of the way the next thing is skill.

Learning how to stay alive and not do mistakes is something that will take forever. People are used to PvP in the game for years so technically you're outmatched when it comes to Skill level. Its all about quick decisions and timing.

Its very easy to fail in that and end up group CCed or reach a point where you dont know what to do next or how to react.

Thats also the point where you get killed.

Keep in mind ''Grabs'' are OP especially on Strikers.

If you're CCed you're dead unless lucky.

Anti CC doesn't always work obviously.

Ignore Resistance stats also dont always work.

And lastly dont underestimate ''Attack/ Casting Speed'' its a deciding factor.

I see a META, where everyone runs ''Attack/ Movement Speed Debuffs'' on Skill Addons.

I don't like that because there's more usefull stuff to run on your Skill Addons however they are overshadowed by Attack/ Movement Speed Debuff Addons which render everything else obsolete because its like activating a speed cheat.

PA should simply remove them nerf them whatever or simply make them Class/ Skill related on certain Cast Abilities.

Another thing they should adress is allow at max 1 Character of ''X'' class per team.

In 1 Match we encountered a Team of 2 Warriors where i got dispatched in seconds on another match we were 2 Warriors and we were the ones that were OP.

I didnt' find those 2 matches balanced for either side.

Other than that i enjoyed it. 3 matches won 4 lost and it was a fun first time experience.

There is nothing to fix, AOS designed for shameless exploiters who call exploiting skill and only play FOTM classes.

Skills from hotbar while playing on uncapped FPS and spam point to move every second, all this while actively holding screenshot button to extent your iframes. And to make its looks legit, just say magic word "Desync".

Aside from some class balance there and there which is fixed in time anyway and the fact the older traditional classes (Kakao Times) were balanced but the introduction of the newer ones and some of their features (fly all over the battlefield and throw fireballs, transform into a unicorn and throw rainbows from your eyes etc. you know all that weird stuff) which look amazing yet break balance, primarily CCs and RNG ruin this game.

CC Chaining in BDO is what ruins PvP and overall it turns it into a Rock/ Paper/ Scissors fest.

It just gets in the way and thus it doesn't allow us to trade damage. After 20+ matches i saw exactly what ruined fights for me and it was the constant CC chaining no matter how smart you try to outplay or get outplayed. Sometimes we CC chained the enemy and won and there's no way he could do anything i was like ''That must feel bad for him just as it feels bad for me when it happens''

It simply gets in the way of playing ''Tactical''

I can trade damage i can watch out for movement and positioning but i simply cant do anything against ranged grabs or ranged CCs or being chain CCed. I give up trying. Its as simple as that. I give up on it.

AoS is just an introduction into BDO PvP. Good or bad it can be good but the aforementioned stuff ruins the combat experience.

And dont get me started on using ''V'' Escape Key... I refuse to use a ''Cheat'' Function that acts as a bandaid solution to a broken system.

Ist the first time a game with ''PvP'' makes me feel dissapointed even at my own victories. Both friends and enemies feel/ think the same things at the same time.

I am, trying to feel some itch, that little something just an itch of satisfaction like ''Yes i did it, i deserved the X kill by outplaying'' but i can't because i didn't earn it i only CC spammed or got lucky. It feels emotionless.

And btw. Watching 2 Zerkers smash a Wizard while the Wizard refused to die from them proves how much the whole setup failed.
