So I have been trying to troubleshoot the issue, and narrowed it down to some kind of a shortcut key of some sorts...
I have disabled ALL of the sticky key and whatever other filter/etc., key shortcuts that Windows has (Win10).
I have re-installed Windows and the game.
What happens:
Randomly as I am typing in either a web-browser, or in-game or even in the launcher entering my password, the OS will think that I have randomly held down either the CTRL or Windows key, and it automatically uses whatever windows shortcuts are enabled, until I logout/restart the PC.
I tried to get it to do it when BDO was not running, and it lasted for about 6 hours with no issue.
I logged in with the launcher, connected and started playing. Minimized to tray and kept working. Then eventually when I had the game not minimized to tray (last event), it turned on magically and I had to logout in order to get it to work again.
This recently started happening after one of the last patch or two. I can't really recall when it started, but maybe 3 or so days ago?
I thought it was the keyboard, so I connected a wireless one I had, and it did the same thing after a couple of hours. Doesn't matter which one is plugged in, it does this.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have been typing and browsing/clicking other sites, but I have not been able to get the system to do this until I start BDO. And it pretty much happens within 30min to an hour of launching the game.
Example, if you press Win+A it brings the notification tab from the right of the screen. This would just happen if I am typing a reply to someone and press the A key. Worse is when you type an 'L' and it locks the computer and I have to unlock the PC.
The really weird thing is, that it doesn't seem to do much of the things if I am in an 'Operating System' like the start menu, but the Backspace Key doesn't work. It's really really annoying.
Never heard of anyone having this problem and the strange part is it happens with 2 keys which are physicaly next to another.
For your test with the wireless keyboard:
Have you unpluged/disabled your other keyboard and also disabled the software for this keyboard, before you started the test?
If you havn't done this, your "normal" keyboard is still present and windows will still recognize any input from this keyboard.
Also, if you start your test after the keys get "stuck", you have to press them once (on the wireless keyboard) after you unpluged your "normal" to unstuck them.
Ya. I tried unplugging the Ducky One 2 Midnight keyboard that started happening with when the issue happened. Connected the wireless keyboard (old dell one) and it did the same thing.
I unplugged all of the keyboards and tried the on-screen keyboard to the same effect. So there were no keyboards connected at all. Same thing :(
That's why it's so odd...
I'm not 100% sure that it's JUST the launcher etc., but I haven't seen it happen yet with other things. So maybe it's coincidence... not sure ;s
Unless Windows has some super secret shortcut key sequence that I am unaware of in the newer versions apart from the keyboard ease of access options (that are all turned off and keys disabled to re-enable them).
Have you ever been able to figure this out, @Kardall? I'm suffering from the same or at least a very similar issue. Sometimes, keys appear to be stuck (mainly ctrl), but sometimes my whole pc stops recognizing keyboard inputs for a few seconds and enters them all at once later (which happened while typing this, funnily enough. Twice.)
It kind of makes the game unplayable.
Only time I've seen a similar issue is when a program/game has it's own language settings, and it's set to something besides the OS default.
might try resetting the language in game and see if that stops it from happening.
