Thoughts on CC resistances and RNG playing a role in PvP

I expect this will be met with mixed feedback but, personally, I think resistances should be completely removed or at the very least limited to no more than 30% across the board. Having RNG determine whether or not you defeat someone in pvp is extremely annoying. Someone may try to make an arguement that crit rate is rng but that's not a fair comparison because the difference doing less damage on 1 tick of an attack is FAR less impactful on the outcome of a fight than whether or not a CC lands. I'm curious to see how people respond to this. I welcome all thoughts and any counter arguements.

Copying this from a similar reddit post.

I firmly believe that resistances are a beneficial stat in all pvp content outside of dedicated 1v1s. Let me explain.

Resistances are an rng-system which introduces unpredictability into combat. This unpredictability is what is so frustrating when you try to combo a guy in duels, and they resist the follow-up cc, stand up, and grab you.

But, this same unpredictability is also what allows many (especially older) pvp clips to exist. That 1 grab that you resisted enabling your 10-man kill-feed. You probably didnt even notice it at the time.

Conversely, the unpredictability places more value on teamplay. Sure, you *can* rely on yourself to CC 10 people and theoretically combo them all. But really, it'd be much safer and more viable to dive in a team of 2-5 guys, to ensure that 1 guy of the 10 targets resisting 1 cc, doesnt completely screw over your engage.

So, my first argument, is that resistances have a role in largescale, where by introducing small random effects, larger cascading consequences can emerge. They place more value on playing in the context of a team, and by extension increase raid integrity.

My second argument, is that BDO already lacks in build diversity. The addition of more resist/ignore resist build options, enabled people to make choices regarding a more primary-damage or primary-support idea. Of course, besides the case of Shai... you wouldnt turn into a full support class by slotting 2 ignore KD crystals on a sorc... But it is a trade-off you can consider.

That being said, I accept that resistances (like practically all other pvp mechanics) are flawed in design and execution.

Firstly, they should not be nearly as annoying in duels (not that duels really exist anymore). PA should either have made it possible to disable resists in BA/1v1 duels/a dedicated 1v1 ranked system (copium). Or, they should have enabled all classes to perform "CC-checks". This isnt really applicable to the modern day pvp we know; combos contain far too few skills, awakening classes cant easily access pre-awa without losing too much dmg etc etc. But, back in the day, it was quite normal to throw multiple CC skills in short succession when performing your re-cc mid combo. You'd open with a KD, instantly into a float/bound, the idea being that if the KD is resisted, at least the CC-check allows you to ensure some damage, and re-calculate the situation, instead of getting your long-animation KD resisted, and grabbed for your troubles.

Finally, PA should have placed certain limitations on skills post-CC recovery. Specifically, grabs and (SA) heals should not function for ~3s after recovering from a CC. This would have beneficial effects in 1v1s all the way up to siege, by reducing the "reward" for surviving 1/2 CCs from opponents.

I've been saying they should go for years, along with evasion, but look at all the people being massive crybabies over evasion going away. So many scrubs want their RNG crutches and unfair advantages. Evasion was especially egregious when you abused things like green evasion sub-weapons too. Basically clowns who would get washed in a real competitive genre like fighting games.

Just look at the amount of mental gymnastics people will try to perform to defend things like this in a game with "action combat" like the poster above. It's absolutely laughable. Either the PvP has no RNG or the PvP is a joke, plain and simple. You can't have both. People just want to pretend they're super skilled to protect their fragile egos. That's why you see Shakybay's big crybaby manifesto about evasion being changed in the other thread because he plays evasion classes and can't abuse it anymore.
