Usually my complaints about a game would be more related to gameplay, or class design, etc etc.. But no, my complaints are simple, and they annoy me to such an extent that it has multiple times made a person that has no temper, literally want to smash my keyboard in!!

Please please please please please for the love of GOD make it so that getting attacked does not close your windows that you have open. Like literally LET ME DIE if that's what it results in!!! I want to be able to do what I am trying to do, and not have a mob that respawns every 5 seconds prevent me from literally chatting with my friend, or using a scroll, or activating my item drop rate level, etc.. It is so frustrating and so stupidly easy to fix. 

Second, I am awakening, yet there are several things that switch me to my pre-awakening weapon CONSTANTLY. Why? Please let ME and only ME decide when I switch weapons. Get on a mount? Switched weapons. Log into the game? Switched weapons!!! This seems like such a stupid thing to ask for. And so often I don't notice and go to use an ability and it takes me a few seconds to realize!

Part of the main/awakening thing is being able to switch back and forth, but if you absolutely want only your awakening, then you can lock all your mainhand weapon skills. (you can see little locks that you can click on your skills in the skill window) I did that with my Tamer cause I only like using her awakening skills... you'll still have to press whatever button you've got assigned to take your awakening weapon out, but that's not bad.

I think there might be some settings somewhere that you can disable so that even when you're getting hit by a mob, the ui windows you've got open will stay open.

I'm not at my computer so I can't take screenshots of what I mean but I can come back later and post if you don't figure it out first.

Settings > General Settings > Misc. > Misc. section:

- Hide UI when Struck

- Hide Full Screen UI when Struck

OP: I get being frustrated, but a quick question in chat, or a little adventure into the settings, would have solved this for you.  All part of the game : )

The closing of windows is frustrating and you can disable it, but ultimately in end game you may not want to.  It's also a protection mechanism to prevent deaths when viewing menus.  Those deaths can lead to crystal breaking or harsh penalties later on.  It's easier to adapt to better habbits where you don't interact with menu's while in combat areas.

I don't understand the skill locking though. It's switching to my pre-awakening weapon every time I mount or I log in. The former being especially annoying, especially when I am off and on my mount all the time. It's possible to fix that?

There is not. As mainhand is the default weapon, many actions around the world default to using it, including horse riding (since you can use mainhand attacks while on the horse if the horse is equipped with gear). Simply something to get used to

Like Minarya said, there is not. Buuuut, what you can do is assign the icon to take out your awakening weapon as a hot key. See the icon?

Click and drag that icon to your hot key bar and then assign whatever button on your keyboard or controller you want that hotkey to be.

You can simply press C for the same effect, too

And some classes can keep their awk weapon out for certain things, at least some of the time.  Archer and riding, for example.
