I know its one of the main income of PA so they would need to figure out how to make this system without harming the profit.
(But of course more ppl enjoying the game -> more friends will join > more ppl = more chance to make money but more ppl means more needs and opinions, stronger servers required more GMs required so going big always means more costs aswell)
What feels bad in the current system.
- Swiping your credit card is NOT challenging at all. So you will reach your goal in literally 5 minutes of playing if you want. The current system is good to entertain the ppl for a few weeks and collect some money from them but I think most mmorpg wants long term players lets say FANS.
WoW is a really good example what you can reach if your players fan of your game.
A normal game would shut down after the first bad expansion (Cataclysm) but WoW released 3 bad expansion (Cata, MoP, WoD) in a row 1 medicore (Legion) and 2 bad expansion again (BFA, SL) + they spit into their whole playerbase face many many times and these fans still payed their 15 euro sub every month just because they hoped the change will come.
WoW Fans needed 10 years of face spitting after they said its enough and even now after all these issues at Blizzard a lots of them still believe in a better future.
So yes loyal fans who talk about the game for hours every day and try to convince their friends to join to his/her journey should worth every money over an impulsive buyer who spend some money and forget that he ever logged into the game. I can't really suggest the game in its current form to my friends because I know its only satisfy a really specific type of person with really strong will.
So I just wanted to give a real life example how some loyal player can keep alive a medicore PC game-
An idea to build loyal fans with dye and outfit collecting:
BDO has one of the best dye system among the mmorpgs and it has the best looking outfits aswell.
I always felt a big miss that you can't make dye by yourself. Imagine collecting different flowers then processing them to make dye.
Or fishing squid or clams for the same purpose.
Farming an item for years to get an average looking outfit (karlstein) is not good either but it is a good way to start somewhere just increase the drop rate a bit :)
So about free outfits: Since item drop not really a thing in this game it should be tied behind quest chains + days, weeks or months of dailies / gathering / fishing / taming / grinding / pvp (depending on the look) (for the very best looking outfits 1-1,5 year of grinding acceptable aswell) it would be good enough to make outfit collecting a challenge but not too easy to collect everything in 2 weeks and bore the player. For example for a Hercules' Might type of outfit max. 1 week of farming should be enough in the early leveling zones but for a Warrior Goyen type of outfit you would need to do Stars End + 2-3 months of farming which requires decent gear to even start your questline. (So you already have a goal to gear up)
Some outfits could be tied to events, content or locked in a specific time rate so the real collectors would just stand in the middle of Heidle and show off their limited 2 years olds helm or sword.
Only the best pvp players could get a specific type of weapon outfit or the most diligent life skillers could get a specific type of cape.
I would keep silly or funny or not usual outfits pearl shop only (like the fish costume, or the new margoria outfit)
Again... honestly I don't know how you could do it to not harm the current income of the company but never underestimate a collector.
If only 10 pearl shop outfit missing from their collection they will buy all of them.
It is also a really good content for streamers which means free marketing for PA
Just to repeat myself current system feels a bit weird because you are not amazed by other players look which is 50% of the game (if not more).
"Hahh nice outfit it was 30 dollar gg pleb..." Instead of this: "Wow this guy has that epic sword skin that takes 8 months of farming literally every day I also want to get that!" (And he will play every day like a good mmo player :))
- Collecting Titles tbh I think the current system just fine. There are a bunch of title and a really good UI to track your progress.
- Collecting interiors. Again it is working more or less you can get interiors from event quests, etc I didn't get into the interior thing so I can't decide if its good or not in its current form.
- unique Pet looks, Maid and Butler and fairy looks I would keep it pearl shop only
Yeah, true endgame is collecting outfits for your waifus, that's allready exits, and you can do it. All it takes is getting a credit card with a large debt limit...
