Finally overcame my lazyness and swapped my i9-9900k for the Ryzen 5800x3d. I paired it with a cheap ASROCK Riptide board cause OC is not gonna be a big thing here, obviously.

I´ll add/edit in here some screenshots and numbers and a bit of comparison (nothing great) to give an idea but I´ll reinstall Windows first just to make sure I get the best experience, after all I switched from an Intel system, plus I wanna play some more. :)

But so far the benefit looks really promising. Especially frame dips with sudden scenery/animation changes seem to be gone or way better at least (I am not talking about loading lag). First impression in Heidel above storage keeper was quite nice (thx to the guy from the bystanders who kept dishing out combat moves), on ULTRA quality (depth of field and motion blur disabled cause I hate these) still having like 60-70 FPS at 4K resolution, FSR: Quality. Of course this is at a point where everything is highly GPU (Radeon 6900XT) bottlenecked. Still, the high stability of the FPS was the nice thing. On Remastered and Very High tests need to follow.

I think it is already relatively safe to advise anyone with an AM4 board and an older CPU to consider this upgrade for BDO alone - the fps stability seems compelling.

All you need is Geforce now and good internet :)

So the RTX 4090s are hitting the market by October which causes GPU vendors to empty their shelves of older highend NVidia cards right now. That, together with crypto bubble crash, makes the performance required for ULTRA in BDO way more accessible to players. Plus, Ryzen 4 is expected in September too. So technically smooth Ultra settings in BDO should be possible for everyone, even above 1080p very soon.

The current caveat is the enormous price tag that is assumed for the new Nvidia flagship and the outrageous power consumption even for highend cheaper 3090s. 4090s are to be expected above 500 watts drain of juice - and that does not account for deadly power spikes which the current Nvidia cards are infamous for - so an extremely good PSU might be able to handle this at 1000 watts spec, but every other is required to provision (way) higher PSU specs. AMD also won´t be cheapsakting and a new platform always brings a bit of risk.

So it is probably still advised to wait for Zen 4 with 3d cache (vcache - yes, vcache once, never going back), early next year plus Intels new gen to pressure AMD pricing. Same goes for the GPU market: The way more sensible 4080 will most likely not hit us before next year. That is when AMD RDNA 3 multi-die GPUs are mixing up the stage as well.

So my guess is ULTRA for BDO by next year.

Hope the devs upgrade their gaming rigs till then, too, and understand that we are NOT phone players who are fine with visual downgrades cause we´re playing this game on the toilet anyways. Instead, we want BDO to be cutting edge and to look sexy af.

Btw you did well on FSR1 support, dear devs, but now give us FSR2, gogogo, I believe in you!

True true, it´ll be perfect for grilling sausages in summer. Add an overclocked 250+W Intel and you best befriend your local power plant owner. :>

Aside for all things which are said right now and else- even if you got 2 cpus and 4 videocards, which would provide enough power to play ultra settings on probably 100fps or more without FPS cheats- there is alsways a hint poping up "ultra mode is not for playing, only for doing screenshots".

So I'm pretty sure (I also noticed since my hardware can indeed provide ~40-50 fps, especially with FSR cheat even more) no matter how good your hardware is, it will always have some input/microlags what ever because it's not optimised for gaming but for screens.

FSR2 is just terrible...
It's providing less fps, also oversharpened image (some screens even starting to flicker), and mooving foliage like grass or a meadow got harsh ghosting effect..

A 3080 already heats up a room really quickly and the 4080/4090 is even worse. The cost of electricity is doubling, perhaps quadrupling depending on where you live and the cost of these cards are way too high for what people can normally afford on a GPU. Consider that people debated between a $250 GPU vs $350 before the 20x/30x series.

Nvidia is out of their minds and EVGA left meaning others might also follow. EVGA said they were losing several hundred dollars per card and couldn't negotiate the price while only finding out the price during the nvidia announcement/convention.They are powerful but they aren't what people need right now, not with a great economic depression looming in next year. Without crypto, their cards won't sell like candy as they did before.

AMD will likely come and swoop in for the kill.
