As you all may know, any character that has been tagged cannot do any Imperial Delivery (Cooking, Fishing, etc). As a player who ocasionally lifeskills and grinds also, I would like to have my lifeskilling character tagged with a different character to try when grinding but the problem is that if I tag, I wouldn't be able to profit from my imperial cooking boxes since its restricted.
Now I understand that this restriction was put in place to prevent exploiting: storing a huge amount of trade items above your max weight, switch character, freely move to the delivery NPC, switch again and deliver that bulk of trade items. But I feel like this solution causes more harm to the tagging experience than the benefits of preventing said exploit.
One solution that I think would work is having the character switch functionality be blocked when I have trade items in the inventory of my character. That way the exploit was still prevented and people could also experience the tag system without sacrificing a different system for it. I really wanted to enjoy this current tag event and try out as many classes as I can but not at the expense of my daily profit. Please PA, let lifeskillers enjoy the tag system without sacrificing their profit!
+1. There are very easy solutions to prevent players from exploiting the tagging system in trading as you mentioned. Restricting imperial trading for tagged characters does more harm than good.
What they should do first is separate gear copying from tagging. So that you could copy gear to whichever character you choose, without requiring them to be tagged. You'd be able to tag and untag freely without destroying the copied gear.
That said, your suggestion would still be relevant even if tagging was separate from gear copying, and would be nice to see implemented.
This is basically the only reason I can't tag my main character. I hope this could get more traction so someone would take notice of this apparent oversight.
I have hit this damn wall so many times now. I tagged thinking hey they mentioned you can do imperial trade ins now and bam NO you can not grab your premade boxes. Then went fishing thinking Imperial fishing delivery is same as imperial trade in again BAM DENIED. Maybe I am to dumb to see the exploit beyond the overstack but you can not enter magnus with trading WHICH goes through a load screen why not just do the exact same check on Tagged character load screen and if trade item is present send back to first char.
+1. I could deal maybe without traditional trading but when they blocked also imperial fishing delivery that was it, from afk fishing on my main, even afk training stamina with strenght was done.... Since like already mentioned above, we are restricted from using magnus when carrying trade items (even kermes from gathering) why simply not have a code that detecs what character is tagged and prevent the relog on those two, until no trade items are detected in the inventory. I don't know how hard it is to write such code but it doesn't sound as hard since magnus is already in place with this kind of restriction. Please PA, some of us lifeskill on main while doing grinding and other activities like dungeons, just add this little change and your abuse trading problem is gone.
Imperial Fish Deliveries are still deliveries, yet they're banned for tagged characters. Also, there are questlines requiring crafting, selling trade items. And some of us could be completionists... Is it worth retagging a character just to be able to sell 1 fish or deliver one box of sunflower?
And yeah, as others already said, just block switching between tagged characters if one of them carries any trade item, be it a fish, a coin or 1000 imperial cooking boxes.
Most likely the issue is imperials and all other trde items are all in a TRADE ITEM category. To allow imperials to work, they'd have to create a new category of items that and put every version of imperials in it, but not other kinds of trade items nor trade crates (lumber, mush, ores etc) , reworking a portion of the item ID database.
With how long this game has shit added to it, who knows how complicated doing that actually is.
Easiest way to point this out, look at various pets, there is no "standard" format for the item description of pets, info can be in multiple different parts of the item description.
Having the "character switch" option be disabled while carrying trade items is pointless when it's only like 15 seconds longer to just go to character select to swap to the tag anyway.
The main point, as much as prevent overweighting, is ALSO preventing distance abuse for all the other types of trade crates and fish. Imperials just happen to be in the same category.

So just prevent logging in to the tagged character completely, as long as the other one has trade items. Be it via the tag option (with its 103930489 minutes cooldown) or via character selection. You'd just get a "Can't select this character while the tagged one carries trade items" error and that'd be it.
Just came back to the game and been having a blast. Really wanted to have my gatherer tagged to my crafter as I can't afford to have multiple sets of TRI Manos accessories. After finding out about the tag system it looked great, right up until I couldn't move cooking boxes for Imperial Delivery in and out of my storage. It seems like I can pacakge and turn in the boxes, but I can't move them in and out of storage, which is disappointing. This leaves me with the choice of either having to forgoe tagging and transfer the accessories via storage every time I switch characters, or pack the boxes every day which is annoying to have to do daily (packing with cord is only a few minutes but it's in sets of 10 leaving me with too few or extra boxes taking up inventory weight). Please consider making a special allowance for Imperial Delivery to the tagging system as it would make things awesome.
