YO. I left windows. I'm not installing spyware on my machine anymore. Can you tell PA's CEO to either release a linux build of the game or to just activate the Easy Anti Cheat support for the game in Steam and let me switch my account from the web one to the steam one ?

Thanks for relaying the info.

Bye.

It would probably affect ~0.01% of the playerbase, it would be a literal waste of money for them to put effort on this, so it's highly unlikely to happen.

You don't want spyware on your PC but you use Steam?

Actually my husband works and conducts business in Linux OS and offers you this solution.  Although it may not be what you desire, as this his solution requires you to maintain a legal Windows license.  Linux OS has something called VIFO.  This YouTube tutorial will get you started or at least some idea what you need to do for working with Windows gaming in Linux OS.  I know this young man talks like money is not an issue.  He talks about running 2 GPUs and those can get very costly in today's market with crypto miners buying them up like hotcakes.  The methods employed by the young man works. However you end up booting Windows OS in Linux OS, to me it doesn't sound very productive, but I am told it allows the system to be more selective and faster.

My husband also agrees with you that more game companies need to think about their future.  I understand the Steam Deck is running Linux OS and plans to offer a Windows OS version too.  The rumor I heard from Steam, most Windows games can be played, they only need 1 file to be downloaded and installed in their build.  The developers at Pearl Abyss must do it, there is not much players can do at present about the hold outs.

@CatDK while I am content using Windows 10 - my husband wanted me to inform you, Linux OS is much higher than 0.01%.  He said, it is closer to 4.25% and rising each day.  That may seem like a tiny percentage, however 4.25% times 100,000 users is 4,250 and if they average sales of $50 each, that is $212,500 of lost sales.

@Paincho you won't gain any ground with ultimatums.  No offense, but your posting reads like "do it or else".   I hope they will offer you the option in the near future.

Have fun!

The 4.25 % is maybe for Linux OS users in general! But the percentage of gamers who use Linux for gaming is much lower and the percentage of them who want to play BDO on Linux is even less!
I would say even the 0.01% is to high.

Bye.

Please excuse my lengthy post, there's a few topics I want to touch on...

Window 10 doesn't have to be spyware.

#1 if you use windows 10 Pro you have 100% control over how windows behaves. It's like $50 more but worth the money. BUT you can still go around everything in home edition and even install pro stuff on home if you know what you're doing.

#2 If you use OOSU10, it makes life a heck of a lot easier to control windows privacy settings even with windows 10 home. 100% of the privacy settings can be controlled with windows 10 home edition and there's no forced updates, or telemetry if you know what you're doing. Every now and then, launch it and see if windows changed anything. It won't if you did things correctly but when you do plan to do a windows update, things get tricky and microsoft changes things. Make sure you do update OOSU10 once in a while.

#3 Windows 11 is an entirely different story. It's absolutely creepy. Stay away from it for the time being or forever.

There are guides everywhere to help do it manually but OOSU10 is free (pay what you want if you want, no e-mail to download either).

I think you are more at risk using linux than you are with windows if you're not a seasoned administrator. Linux is difficult to setup and configure correctly and securely no matter the distro unless of course, you know what you are doing. For example, just because you're using linux doesn't mean you shouldn't configure your antivirus. There are many other things to configure but the fact that people often jump to linux or mac and think everything is fine without an AV is upsetting.

Now, let's say you are still convinced to use linux or mac, I would still urge people to consider at least installing windows on another partition somewhere just for gaming. Most games do not work in linux and if they do, the performance is significantly worse (generally) and you will likely encounter a lot of issues. Linux has made significant strides and I want to see it surpass windows one day since Microsoft is as everyone would expect, actually evil at the top and disorganized going down the food chain. I want to also ditch Windows but there are too many things that's keeping me there at home and every time I use home editions of linux like say Ubuntu, I feel disappointed that this is the state of linux. On the plus side, videocard support is a lot better than it was 15 years ago and you can actually have good performance with them. I have heard that in some instances it's even better than windows but most will not be.

Linux will get there eventually but for now it's not. Feel free to use it as you like but just know that most of what you use on a daily basis probably will not work correctly so "sideload" windows either in VM or on a secondary partition when you want to use those things. Always use OOSU10 and follow guides on protecting your privacy, windows is a service now and not a proper OS. The three letter agencies aren't coming to get you for having a pirated copy of thomas the tank engine but if you install windows 11, you might end up in trouble for what you do have on your PC since at the core, A.I. is being used to analyze you. Your data is important and should be protected at all cost. The new generation of kids don't appreciate user privacy and use their phones all the time and embrace services like alexa because to them, it's fine since it's not instant karma.

I know windows 10 is my last OS. I said that at windows 7 but people found ways around the creepware of 10 so I was fine with it. But windows 11 is too creepy, even blocking all windows servers from the hosts file / your router is not enough. Just because you don't have anything to hide, it doesn't mean that you want anyone to know who you are, what you are doing, what you are thinking, what you are planning on doing or create a profile about your interests etc... To have a digital shadow of you is disturbing and how some people think this is ok is pretty crazy.

Let's hope that Linux sees full support and doesn't become the next evil Microsoft

@Tooshaitopost my husband read your page above and agrees with you on several points, so the +1 came from him. lol

While he supports Linux over Windows he said there is no reason to abandon version 10 for version 11.  Windows 10 support and updates will continue to October 2025.  After that date, it will just no longer receive any updates... come to think of it, that might be a "good thing"?

He continues, to say, current Windows 11 support ends October 2023, a full 2 years before Windows 10.  At some point, Microsoft will make up new rules on the definition for Windows 11 support.

He set my Windows 10 up with a debloat script.  This removes a lot of the Microsoft Spyware, blocks Cortana, analytics, blah blah blah... god why does he do this to me? I am not his damn secretary.  As he continues to bable on , I will just type and nod and pretend I am listening.  Now I regret showing him this topic.  I thought he would just be content knowing people are talking about Linux gaming.  Oh shit, he went to his computer room to get the whiteboard.  I will just close here but enjoy the games you play on whatever OS you choose to use.

Have fun!

0% of the players actually since the anti cheat system makes it impossible to start.

That's why I said they just had to activate EAC support via Steam it's not a literal waste of money since it would take like a couple hours for a dev to connect on PA's steam accound and tick a box and I would be back spending 20 30e a month in the game. I see that as a litteral net benefit in my book since I'm not the only one wanting this I'm just the only one voicing it : you can see on protondb people trying to start the game on linux every couple of months or so here : https://www.protondb.com/app/582660

Anyways your move PA send me an email when it's done. Bye.

Where did you read an ultimatum ? I'm just stating that I won't be playing anymore until they make it possible for me to play on linux I didn't issue a threat I explecitly said that I wouldn't do anything ? Plus I didn't say DO IT or else I said and I quote "Can you". If they do nothing so be it their loss I'm just doing something else and they don't get money from me I'm sure they get plenty already without me.
