Title: Magnus has Potential. But not as Parallel Universe Teleportation HUB.
Family Name: Steinn
Region (NA/EU):EU
Suggestion/Comments: Magnus is terribly realized. But it can be so much more dear Pearl Team.
Instead of adding these little places as normal quests in the actual game, they had to add a parallel universe and all the problems that the multiverse brings. Heck, they're even toying with the idea of expanding that if you actually didn't skip the ending and listen to the final boss. That means we're going to get more of these parallel quests that don't change the characters and story of the main game in any way.
Imagine a world of BDO where we can actually sneak into the nest of Garmoth to retrieve a treasure in a main quest. A tiny map expansion and the whole thing would have fit so incredibly easily into the normal game world. The whole thing could have worked with absolutely every little alternate "what if" scenario they just presented. Instead of creating an alternate time reality where main characters like Jordine show up and suddenly disappear at the end (We all know where he will end up. Spoilers. Dead.) .... they could have just fluidly incorporated the whole thing into the normal main story as additional quests.
Shooting stuff with the chariot? Why does that need its own realm. Let me just do it there in the aftermath of the Valencia questline. Nobody likes the Valencia Part 2 main quest. Why don't you add it there? So much potential to improve the actual game.
If it wasn't for the bugs I would have completed the whole thing in an hour. Well and what now? Now it's just another useless adventure riddled with bugs that I'll never remember again. If you want such content to be fun and worth remembering then don't make it like it's a short event and pure work lol.
They said they were trying to do something about this eternal dull repitition. In the end, they added nothing to break it. Just a new event questline that once you complete it has absolutely no bearing on the actual game. You only unlocked extra bonus content and that was the only reason players were interested in it in the first place.
If you keep building up this whole Abyss One:Magnus thing, you could actually use it to create an interesting change in the game's story? A Cataclysm but only in the Black Desert universe and not in Warcraft. A story change and a path which is presented like in Genshin Impact and not your constant R-spamming story experience. You guys are trying so hard to break all this stuff up lately with cutscenes and voicelines. Then use this story tool to just make a difference in this world.... For 7 years we've been playing the same game over and over and over again. Adding more story with each region to come is all well and good. But what is the red thread? The actual real story quest? What's the point of all this Magnus stuff if it's again just a small part that has absolutely no meaning in the end. The main regional quests that you go through tell the story of the world. Where is the part where I, the main character actually make a difference? That Goyen guy looks really sinister and evil. Will I actually meet him again in the future and will the guy destroy the whole world or whatever? I think at this point it's clear what kind of feedback this is.
Again. Magnus is terribly realized. But it can be so much more dear Pearl Team.
It was pretty obvious they are going to add more parts to it if they dont end up scrapping the whole thing. It might just be a catchup gimmick in the end but it could have been at least enjoyable if it wasnt such a bugged mess of frustration.
Does the game need a narative and interesting characters? Sure, why not but time and time again they failed to reach the standard. I guess the resources should really be put to better use.
This is the reason PA created the Magnus so they can add future content to finish story and lore from the past history of the World. The Magnus has the ability to go back in time so the devs will definitely be creating future updates that bring us new story involving jordine and the other heroes in the Magnus. I think the devs aim is to allow Magnus the ability to recreate events that happened in the past and go back in time. So I would expect them to expand on the magnus's story.
The only problem is allowing a whole other Magnus Universe to exist open world other than Black deserts world is that would take a lot of development time away from projects like new zones, new monster grind spots, and giving us new sea content which would be detrimental to endgame content. So I think magnus will always be an instanced based content which expands upon events and story that happened in the past and future. (Black death, Jordine and Al Rhundi and his fight with Calpheon, Past Wars etc etc)
Magnus is a developers dream and I can see why PA created it like it is. It allows for quick content that doesn't take up much development time inbetween endgame and class balance content patch updates. I doubt we will see a fully fledged open world Magnus universe under Black Desert. It has so much potential like you say but I think development time could be better spent else where like, Multi floor Tower dungeons, Expanding upon sea content and adding boat GvG sea sieges, 10 man raids, 10 man arena, New monster grinding zones, new zones etc.
