so i just finished the media part of magnus. nothing good to say about any of this but i have a question.
in order to use fast travel will i need to
1. go to a well
2. hop into the well and go through the abyss falling animation cut scene
3. jump down or rund down the stairs
4. finally arrive at my desired gate and teleport
is this going to be the process? honestly i do not think i will be using this much at all. just irritating.
Yes that is correct. You will also need a certain amount of silver that corresponds to the distance between the travel points
Add to that the list of restrictions for use: trade goods, party, etc.
Outside of Velia the entrance / exit locations just aren't near where useful things are or where characters typically get parked. And there isn't an autopathing selection (yet) to get you to the nearest entrance, so need to remember those or find them on the world map.
It's a niche feature. I can see it being useful for getting to Valencia for some things. And for Port Ratt it makes a lot of sense. Or really just anywhere that's on the opposite end of the map from where you are and you need to make a quick trip. But not much use for neighboring or one-removed regions.
I think it is their intention, not to make a TP system allowing endless instant travels.
The ability to interact with whaterver storage in whatever city you are is useful.
On the other hand, I didn't use the TP once since I finished the quest. Never went back into the Magnus actually, and don't really intend to.
But to be honest, I think it was first and foremost designed for reaching Haso in a reasonable way, because their next big update is there. That's the real reason why they implemented this update, and why they also wanted to release it quickly, at the detriment of QA and testing (It's their worst release so far from this point of view).
They kinda screwed themselves when they designed the ocean, because this big empty space isn't really used, unless for very specific niche activities, so asking players to travel such a long distance just for their day to day grinding was a failure incoming, even with the fastest ships (and I don't think a lot of player engage with naval content, or simply just have a ship that can cross the ocean to begin with).
So they had to find a way to get around this issue if they wanted to develop Haso, and the magnus was the answer.
i actualy like what they did with this teleport systeme. its good but not good enought to use it all the time. if you are short on time and are fine with the cost, it will save you lot of traveling but if you have the time, it cost nothing by horse other then some of your time. On the other hand, the accessibility of all the storage is really really usefull. i dont have to travel or send stuff by transport to manage all my storage. its overall a good QoL but the magnus questline to get it is questionnable...those mini-game get annoying real quick especialy with all the bugs and it doesnt fit the game imo.
I barely touched the Magnus, paused at Jordine for now. I would never define this as "fast travel". While it doesn't take a full hour like the free transport, I will continue to use the 1 hour transport option. I also plan to get it done eventually to unlock the storage links. Overall this is not a bad thing, it is just another option that exists. At least they didn't remove other options from the game. If one chooses, the Magnus could be ignored completely. As far as I can tell, this addition to the game hasn't replaced or removed anything.
Have fun!
Usual Black Desert. The give you something new, make it so laborious to get the benefits.
Add restrictions to the benefits that leave lots of players not bothering to use it.
And the bugs! I had to leave the abyss so many times it got really annoying. 0In fact my character that has done all but the last quest
because it's stuck in my quest list as unaccepted and no way to forfeit and restart. Now I can't complete the Magnus unless the powers that be can help with my ticket.
the same thing happened to me today. i was able to complete the part of the quest to get the pen armor, but for some reason it bugged out at the step for me to learn the new ability. same as you, is listed as unaccepted, but there is nothing i can forfeit to retake that part of the quest - and there is no way in hell i am doing the entire questline over again. i submitted a ticket too, best of luck to us both.
I did the Magnus... never again will I touch the quest. :(
