so maybe some of you who have been training horses for a while can answer. i can find lots of info about horses and horse training but none about my specific question.
so question is - does the number of sugar cubes you give to the horse fail to improve tame chance after a certain number of cubes? most vids i have seen say use like 5 cubes, but i get kicked often when trying to mount
specific example of today -
i am a returning player on the season servers. far as i can tell, the horses outside of heidel, that used to be tier 1 and 2, are now tier 5 and 6. i have been using 20 sugar cubes per tame to try to not get kicked. so far for about 5 horses it has worked. today, after giving the horse 20 cubes i got kicked when trying to mount. so then i decided i would try 30, when i got to 22 it reared up and kicked me and walked away even though i had not mounted. so then i tried one more time and for giggles just used 7 cubes, and i was able to mount it and tame it fine.
the horse is a tier 6 level 8 btw.
so thanks for any info on the real math behind how the sugar cubes work. i don't really like the taming mini-game but otherwise i have to buy horses to ride at night afk just to get my skill up (i try to hit artisan on each character whenever i play seasons)
Sugar cubes pretty much cap out after 5. If you want to get a high chance to tame horses, use the trainers clothes from the luxury vendor. That + 5 sugar cubes gives a really high chance of taming horses. If you want to invest a bit of time, you can also try to snipe a Tailoring Coupon from the marketplace. Then use it on the trainers clothes, and basically double down on the effect.
The horse discord has the "tinfoil" that the chance to tame the horse is the highest and does no longer increase after 30 seconds. Sugar cubes reduce the timer by 1 second.
Thus, 5 sugar cubes are pretty much certain to go over 30 seconds and any more won't affect the taming chance.
Good luck on your taming :)
ty for the info. much appreciated!
Sugar is pointless and doesn't change anything, catching horses is still rng.
I caught 1000 or more horses and never used sugar and my catch efficiency is ~90%.
The more important factor is time, it takes at least 2-3 mini-games to get the horse caught.
So if you approach a horse and you don't have a mini-game and you try to get on it, you have a 99% chance that it will kick you.

Since I started doing the daily quest for Fern roots I have 100% catch rate on horses uing 5 lumps of sugar each time along with proper gear. Might not be 1k horses in total but its a few hundred.

yee same double trainers on an alt that i do daily taming on after my main grabs the quests from liana
2 sugars if horse does minigame 4 if it doesnt 100% tame rate
i do same on my main that ive tamed thousands of horses on

Is your training level at Master? If yes, 5 sugar is way to much.
I only use 1 sugar since I'm Master 5 and have a 100% catch rate. I also tried without any sugar a few times and it worked like 90%.
thanks again all for info. for now i am just doing 5 cubes all the time and it seems to work. i am guessing it is gonna fail now and then, but from what all of you are telling me - using anything more than 5 is not increasing my chances at all.

I've been sticking to 5 sugars since I was prof-something training. Only catching 1-2 horses per day but if I ever start doing more I might try experimenting a bit with less.
Time is indeed the most important factor. I believe maybe the only purpose for giving sugar is just to play an animation that makes you wait a little longer. Perhaps not doing anything and waiting the same amount of time, nets the same result in chance.
As I have explained in my guide video as well:
Once you are at least Training skilled 10, an able to wear trainer clothes you can buy from luxury vendors, it is vital that you double stack them with a tailoring coupon.
With double stacked training clothes, I always just count 3 minus the amount of times you have to do the spacespam minigame. Giving it that amount of sugar, gives me a 99% chance to succeed. Aka, I have never failed to catch a horse using this method.
Spacespam minigame 1 time -> Give 2 sugar
Spacespam minigame 2 times -> Give 1 sugar
Spacespam minigame 3 times -> How even? But okay, hop on straight away.
