FFXIV just got (unofficial) VR support (Alpha / Mod) - Also what do you think if BDO had this?

Okay, I thought VR in FF14 would be weird but it's a game changer. The game isn't meant for VR obviously but it does change things around for the better at least if you want to experience things differently. Presently the mod is availble in alpha which you'll need to unofficial XIV launcher for and as usual, mods for FF aren't really a deal breaker for the devs as long as you're not using mods for botting etc...

Here's the trailer

I imagine that there will be some UI mods that will change the UI entirely so it's better than what is shown there, after all you can already customize your UI to however you want and even have live parsers but as an Alpha this looks pretty good.

I remember seeing a few posts on these forums about wanting VR support for BDO and I didn't care either way so I didn't take part of the conversations. I think this changes my outlook on VR in an MMO. What do you guys think? Have you tried the mod yet? Do you think PA should look into it for BDO? Obviously we'd have to tone down the graphics or even have a translucency setting on effects because we'd go blind but would it be fun at least for the casual / RP parts of the game?

This was hidden by admin due to the reports it has received.

I had the chance to try it and it wasn't great. LOL

First, it's very jittery. Mind you I wasn't using reshade or anything and I have a enthusiast grade PC. Something like this should be smooth but I couldn't get it to keep at a steady framerate. It felt like a pukefest.

Second, it's really need to see everything in 3D BUT the characters look very unproporional to the field of view. This means that they look like giant barbie dolls with miniature heads. It's crazy.

Third, the UI needs a lot of work. They need to implement a custom UI for this because using the default UI and positioning it on a sphere isn't great. The movevent of the UI wasn't great either so it needs a lot of adjusting.

I played around in both first person and third person and first person is too weird because you don't see your own character or equipment. I'm pretty sure they'll have to manually redo first person mode so that it removes your character's head and keeps everything else. There was also weird keybind changes so it's really weird to use a xbox controller. You can't zoom in and out and move the camera up/down very well.

With that said they have a discord which I don't have and have outlined the future of the project and things they'd like to get accomplished alegedly. I'd like to try VR in BDO but just to relax, not to do anything like fighting or gathering because the game moves too quick for that and I can't imagine the frame drops lol

FWIW: I think VR is the future of MMORPGs. You would have to design a game around the VR setup but if you use a modern or perhaps next generation VR setup, then it could really go places. For now, we can only dream of this virtual reality since reality isn't as neat.

What kind of vr headsets work with that? And would my 3070 mobile be enough to play it?

no thank you. BDO has so much fast movement and jumping, and ports and turning in quick time etc, that even if you normally wouldn't get moving sickness.....you would get that with BDO VR

eh... no

The way the whole thing is constructed makes me only feel good in 'simulator' games, be it plane, heli, tank, or car. I tried Skyrim VR, it's fun, but the way you need to flail your hands around makes you need lots of free space.

VR games are fun and shit, but current MMOs are way too competitive for them to be VR based. There were two titles on steam that are somewhat popular, Zenith being one. But it's still more on the fun side than playing for results.

The other 'problem' is that you can run many if not most MMOs on budget rigs, however for VR you need a beefy setup, plus the cost of the headset, plus the optional Katwalk (and here you should also add a huge room :D) - maybe we gonna see the revival of the PC Cafes, but with hardcore VR spaces.

So yeah, considering nothing happened on the 6th of November 2022, we'll still need to wait for the actual revolution.

What was 6th of November 2022?

VR for MMO: would love for that to happen, but - sooo many problems to overcome.  Maybe when we get direct brain stem interfaces for the motion / sensory parts, and ocular / auditory / olfactory nerve intercepts.  Hmm - what's 'taste' hooked up to?

Anyone read Tad Williams' Otherland?  Sometimes fiction is better before later developments in reality start to interfere.  What would be more recent VR / SciFi fiction?

avatar 2 ?

if you can still use controller, key and mouse, vr black desert is fine, of course if the controller is the vr set or vr controller, black desert gameplay vr will look bad

I can't wait to do Niddhog in VR with this. Its an absolute shame though that this is coming out the year they took a hard stance against mods since this would be awesome to both stream and watch.
