Another thread about lack of new male classes

I'd like to preface my thread with the fact that I never play male characters and I have no desire to do so going forward. I even enjoy the character and outfit designs that lean more heavily into sex appeal. However, I think it's important that they're equally represented in a game like this. I think both audiences need to be catered to in order to have a truly healthy game and community. The recent news that we're getting two new female classes, after the previous two new classes also being female, has me genuinely concerned about the future of the game. I've seen this type of behavior in the past with other games, and I'll use TERA as an example here, but the trend is generally that when development priorities shift like this it's basically when these games are starting to go downhill. It's like the developer is no longer considering the game an actual priority and is instead operating with the sole intent of getting the most money they possibly can out of the product before they're through with it.

I love this game, even though it hasn't been all that kind to me over the past several months, or roughly the majority of this year, as I've failed all of my enhancements and lost nearly 300 billion silver from it. It's just, thinking about how much time it takes to progress in the game, coupled with the recent news, it has me a little uncertain and afraid about investing more of myself into the game. Has Black Desert just become something Pearl Abyss would rather milk to fund other projects or is it still their baby?

Given my love for this game, I see a lot of potential with it, and I think it's something that'd be worth supporting for many more years to come. Granted, it would need some significant work at times like major graphical updates to keep it competitive on that front, but I feel it's worthwhile, because no other MMO has comparable combat in a fully open world, with sandbox elements and the deepest character creator in the genre. I'd love to see all of that continue to be developed, refined, and expanded upon. I'm really hoping the upcoming Calpheon Ball will shed more light on where Pearl Abyss is going with BDO and whether or not it's something they actually care about the future of.

They recently developed a new dungeon.  We have a total of, what...3 now?  Dungeons used to be discarded by the devs as this type of instanced content did not fit the theme of the game, but they have developed three that look to be rewarding enough to play and well enough developed for a group to have fun, breaking up the monotony of the solo grind.  New region is coming soon too and I personally expect it to be the most visually stunning we've gotten yet.

The being said, I think they still care about the future of the game.  They are simply trying to make as much money from it as possible.  Maybe female class releases sell more costumes and other pearl items than male class releases?  IDK.  At the end of the day, all their decisions boils down to what makes the most money.  It's corporate mentality at work.  Not saying I support this or not, it's just the way it is.

Yep, female dress up in the cash shop gets the flow to maintain the game. I'm cool with that. Remove gender lock. Then I can play more classes without getting the feeling of being a creepy dude trying to play a sexualized character. That's all I want. Remove gender lock, allow people to choose what gender they want to throw money at and stop forcing sexual marketing down my throat by neglecting the future developing classes and locking them all to female to make a buck. Come on.

If we were to be realistic, removing gender lock will never happen.  And this has been stated back in 2016 with no hints that the devs' stance on this will ever change.

"If you’re hoping for every gender-locked class in Black Desert to have an equivalent for the other gender, the bad news for you is that that’s not among the future development plans. According to a community-driven interview with the developers, making a new cross-gender class equivalent is as much work as making an entirely new class, which means that three of the classes with no male equivalent are planned to remain exclusive to the ladies. It does mean that entirely new classes are being carefully considered, though."

Aside from the, now even more massive, effort, time, and financial burden it will take refitting all costumes and reworking character models/voices (all characters have unique voices) alone, it just isn't feasible from a PvP standpoint in my honest opinion.  I have my full reasoning behind this in the thread you posted here.

We can continue that discussion there if you wish.

That being said......why does playing a female character give you "the feeling of being a creepy dude"?  :monkaHmm:

As has been stated in the other threads, male characters will never be as profitable as female characters for obvious reasons. The majority of males who play korean mmos enjoy the aesthetic which includes oversexualized females for the most part.

Since they keep releasing mainly female characters it's obvious from the statistics they have that this is what the overwhelming majority of players want. There is extremely little reason for this to change in a korean MMO such as BDO and I hope they stay on the current course. You must understand that Korean games are virtually the last games on the planet which allow for females to be beautiful and sexualized, western games cater to the demented leftist mentality since years so that ship has sailed. Let's "not" try to change that. Can we just let the Korean MMO be a Korean MMO? It's alright to have games which lean mostly into sex-appeal for men. There are very few such games left (compared to the overwhelming majority being like that during the rise of gaming).

I am sure that the next class after the white-haired sister for the Woosa will be a male, so you can breathe easy there as, apparently, you feel strongly about having male classes in the game (?) . Obviously the game can't be an army of female characters with no option to play as male, but in my opinion it's fine for Korean MMOs which have a very particular aesthetic to them to lean towards more "waifus" in the game. Now, of course, if they decide to release a fifth female THAT will definitely be too much and something to kick up a fuss about.

The Tera statement is also nonsensical imo, outfits for Elins were what kept the game from shutting down for years (quite literally). Yes, it's disgusting paedo bait, but it is what it is, so if anything the sexualization kept the game afloat rather than it being a sign of the game dying, even if they did close doors eventually for entirely different reasons.

Also, to the guy who finds playing as aesthetically pleasing females "creepy" - low T issue, consider injections.

I've responded to another one of these threads before logging forums off.

I just wanna say forget about adding male counter parts to female classes instead develop more new male classes to balance the huge gap that there is : 9males/17females.

We got 4 female classes in a row (4 to be with Maegu) ? Next should be 4 male classes in a row. Even with that the gap would still remain but at least we'd get more choices.

Alas I'm positive that even after this if in a year or however long they will take to make a new class since they've been feeding us new classes like really good, we'll get even more female classes , or if devs take pity in us male class lovers they'd throw us a bone as in aka 1 male class then proceed to releasing another 5 female classes KEK.

This was hidden by admin due to the reports it has received.
