Well usually every character take me more than 80 layers, i dont combine all the layers or what i mean, all colors are in different layers, base coloring, shadow, hard shadow, soft light, lights, high lights, and different folders for every part of the body, etc...
Is for that i use too many layers on my work, also during the lineart i separate every single part in each layer, example in one character:
Lineart 1 → Hair (here i have even sub-layers called hair1, hair2, hair3 etc to know which part of the hair im working)
Lineart 2 → skin (sub-layers body, mouth, nouse)
Lineart 3 → Eyes (sub-layers called eyeL or eyeR, eyebrowsL, eyebrowsR)
Lineart 4 → Clothes (here will depend of the amount of accessories LOL)
Lineart 5 → Thick Lines (sub-layers soft and hard)
Then all folders with parts of the body...
etc... Well i´m not sure if that make sense why i did so many layers (i know is more work, but i like to know what i´m doing for next proccess or improving my work), but that´s how i work on Paint Tool SAI. Have a nice day! ♥
