Do you prefer the servers the way they are?

Or do you prefer that there were less servers, that you prefer to see more of the player population around in the game if there were less servers?
Do you feel there are too many servers that the world feels not as active as you'd like to see in the game?

And what do you think of the seasonal servers? Would you prefer it if the seasonal characters players were playing in the normal servers instead?

Please share your thoughts, thanks!

Well the world would be more lively if there would be less servers, altrough ultimately 80% of the map is useless, so even with less servers I doubt those regions would have players in it.

In a properly designed MMO the answer would be less severs.  It would increase the amount of player interactions, parties, visibility, etc.  However, BDO is not designed as an MMO.  It's a single player instance game with a shared central market.

Seeing other players fishing in town isn't an issue or seeing someone running a trade route.  Those player don't interfere with your experience.  However, in the open world unless it's a group spot there is not only no value to having others around it's actually game breaking.

Two players simply can not occupy the same grinding locations.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I understand that point of view but what do you think can be done about that? Do you have any ideas on how to solve that part?

That is true in some sense. Wouldn't the Elvia realm instances we can switch to solve that issue though? And wouldn't it make it more likely for players to wish to group up instead so they can grind together? Or just switching servers could fix that? When taking into consideration that it wouldn't be that all servers would be gone, just in the case that a few would be?

That's not how Elvia servers work or their intended purpose.  Elvia servers are simply reusing existing content instead of a new hunting area.

An Elvia area doesn't provide any more space or utility than a new grind zone.

The grouping is a separate issue.  It's actually the general actions of players that is the real issue.  If you have 45 minutes to play for example, in many cases due to the poor organization and response from others you could waste over 20 minutes just getting a group together.  Especially in a game that already doesn't support it.

Those types of interactions lead players to just give up on it and play alone.

The game would need idential solo/group spots near each other so you can grind immediately until a party ready.  Or a teleport system.  I wouldn't bother wasting even 10 minutes for a group.  It's an out dated concept that's not appealing.

What about if incentives were added to grouping together like additional rewards? Do you think it would motivate people to be more interested in forming a group together?

Yes, infact I prefer BDOs server design over traditional MMOs server style. Grinding is the most boring of all activities in BDO and I don't want any interaction with players there or have forced interaction with other players. Since BDO is an open world game and grind zones being instanced won't be a thing. I prefer empty servers will as less interaction as possible.

That's interesting. Yes, I do like the server style as well but I wouldn't say grinding in BDO is the most boring activity since I enjoy it a lot due to how fun the combat is but I would prefer more group activities in the game since I enjoy doing things with other players more. But how is it that you prefer it being an open world with other players without instances yet you prefer empty servers with as less interaction as possible?

A very bad idea.  This fatal flaw has killed many games.  The problem is grouping tends to become so OP that solo game play becomes irrelevant.  You then stack the broken reward with loot scrolls and you have a disaster.  Then wasting 20 minutes for an hour of ridiculous rewards is just worth it due to the system being broken.

PA's history of balance has been....... 7 years of disaster so don't ever count on them actually doing it correctly either.

In addition, the choice has already been made years ago.  BDO's community is so entrenched into solo play it's not worth trying to change it now.

About it being fatal, that's not necessarily always the case, WoW and FFXIV have been doing it for a decade and more and I wouldn't consider it to have been a flaw for the two.

I did not mean to suggest that solo game play becomes irrelevant, it can still remain the same, it's just that the reward doesn't need to become "so OP" when done right, and it's very possible for that to happen in my opinion.

I never waited 20 minutes in the game to form a group even in the game's current condition, I just ask friends for 3-5 mins or ask whoever I meet in the area when I reach it if we can form a group, it can be as simple as that and the rewards don't necessarily need to be ridiculous, they can be done in a proper manner.

But yes, BDO being a solo-focused game for 7 years can have such an effect but PA have shown they are willing to take risks in making drastic changes to the way the gameplay is in Land of the Morning Light from what we can see so far and I think it's a good thing.
