Hello again everyone,

x

Today I would like to talk about BDO farming. Specifically new ideas and improvements that can be made to the system.

BDO farming is one of those lifeskills that has been sitting on the dusty shelf in PA's basement. It sits next to the other lifeskills that have yet to be upgraded with the Manos Mastery system. Today I will outline a few new ideas and improvements that would greatly benefit farming and maybe even inspire you to think outside the box with the farming mechanic.

x

But to start, lets touch on the weird.

x

1) Bring back Farming tools!!! Farming back in the early days of BDO we had the option to build cool things on our plots like watering reserve/distribution systems and scarecrows. These items would be farming accessories that could be used to better maintain crops and give a benefit to anyone who deployed them. Today, if we had such items, they could give a well deserved boost to crops, or serve new functions.

x

2) Make Farming Mastery happen!!! Right now farming for any reason seems pointless because there is limited growth in the craft itself. Farmers dont get any fantastic benefits for leveling up and putting in the work. A mastery system would be great to feel the progress and actually make some decent gains.

x

3) Make more farming grid types/tools!!! The main push for this entire post is this: more uses for the farming plots, however the limit to 10 plots (basically 100CP worth) is what stands in the way of farming being exciting. Let us buy as many plots as we want!

x

4) Trapping... Imagine being able to set a farming grid out in a wild location and set up a trap tool. Come back to it after a time and see if you caught something. This would be the same as AFK fishing and would yield trade items to be sold to imperial trade or regular trade.

x

5) Sniper Hunting Bait... Imagine you are able to set a plot down in a wild location with an enhanced bait tool. This bait tool would attract exotic a new sniper hunting animals that you can now take a swing at catching/killing.

x

6) Fish farms... Imagine you can go to shallow water areas a place an aquatic plot down. This aquatic plot could be used to farm fish, grow coral, or trap crabs and shellfish. This type could also harness special tools like Lobster Traps.

x

7) Beekeeping... Imagine being able to set your plots down in the Velia woods and place special beekeeping tools to farm honey. This would greatly increase the cooking and alchemy opportunity.

x

8) Growing crystals... imagine being able to set your plots in dark and humid cave areas to create crystals and other rare alchemical things. You could also give more purpose to the shovel that already exists in the world of BDO. Digging up your own ore or crystal plots would be excellent.

x

9) Water well... Imagine being able to cultivate your own water well to get items like purified water, muddy water bags, or number of associated items.

x

Farming plots are an item in the world of BDO that has an insane amount of potential. All I want is others to see what I see. This could be beautiful.

Number 7, 8, and 9 the workers already do that on the worker nodes.

Number 4 and 5, how is that different from the current "craft trap, use it to summon Y mob" that we have now?

1 would just make it needlessly complex, and putting a worker on the fence does exactly what those used to do without taking up a grid for seeds.

2, 3, and 6 are all good ideas.  +1 for those.

I'm all for these changes but I think that higher rewards should prioritize farming level over farming mastery since if it's only mastery based then there is no reward for leveling. Great post, nicely formated and easy to read. Love the tab system you chose too!

In regards to 7, 8, and 9. The point would be to use farms plots to push those items in the case that you desired more.

Many players who enjoy cooking and alchemy quickly run out of materials, so this is really about choosing a focus.

In regards to 6, the fish thing is just one of those strange content things in BDO. The ocean has numerous fish nodes but they produce once around every 5 hours.

I also meant to add:

make the Manos Hoe give farming mastery.

or

make a new tool alltogether.

Mind if I suggest throwing folliage masking in there? It's a technique used in games to make folliage disappear within a certain region, in this case it would be within the fence. It's really annoying when you can't really see what you are farming because it's underneath weeds or other folliage that gets in the way. It would greatly add to immersion as well.

PA, you add things to farming like the truffle seeds. Why not do what really matters and add farming mastery?

I really do enjoy the farming skill, but just like some parts of games, they take a backseat as other shiny things appear. I'm G22 farming so I quite enjoy the skill, and when i talk to players about farming and what their pro's & con's are, i hear the 2 same things consistantly.

1. Why isn't there a seed pouch or some form of better seed management.

2. Why can't there be a place all or collect all function.

Again mastery is under utilised in this skill and could work with many of the points for OP.  I love this skill but i wish PA would show some more love towards it.
