Just to clarify I'm using a UK layout keyboard and ' (apostrophe) does pings, where patch note says it should open the ring menu to switch to fishing rod, while it's actually # (hash) key 

Confirmed for me to, hash key it is, thx OP, this fishing system circle is causing fun and games to quite a few it seems.

Thank you, Drakoshi, I had the same problem with using a german keyboard, for me it is the letter "ä" that is working for the new fishing menue. I usually used the key for my workers menue and so I was not able to start the fishing at all. After resetting the key fishing is working now, at least for me.

At least you are able to get to that option. I tried pressing all of the "special" keys on my keyboard and nothing brings this new UI, so I had to click manually at the top left corner near pets and maids. But today in the morning I wasn't able to get fishing rod to un-equip so I could move anywhere. In the end the only option was to swap chanel, and they I could move from fishing.

This new "system" is just absurd.
