But you know that the graphic doesn't show all users but only those who play via Steam, right?

yeah but Steam is the biggest gaming platform, so it says something

It only says 60k are playing BDO through Steam. It's not saying anything about how many none-Steam players are playing BDO!

There are more non-Steam players than Steam players in BDO, so this statistic is useless.

People that grew up on mmorpgs use the native client normally because that's what we normally do. I don't recall too many mmorpgs that used a 3rd party client to launch their game. It was my first time seeing that when Bdo released it on steam.

yeah I totally get it what you are saying but that doesn't mean the player base is higher than the graph I showed. Is there any site like steamdb, that shows the BDO player count on their own client?

Sadly no we rely on PA to release that info. I wish they did and also I wish they shared what peoples gear is on average right now and the median too.

This was hidden by admin due to the reports it has received.

Did you SERIOUSLY compare a reasonably succesful mmorpg to some of the biggest single player games of all time?

You do realise they're not in the same market at all? Outside of WoW 20 years ago, no mmorpg has ever managed to have the kind of reach and mainstream populatiry the biggest SP games do. It's normal, most people aren't willing to commit hours daily to the same game for some years doing the same stuff. With BDO it's even worse, the game is so complex the average normie gamer will be lost within minutes and likely log out and never return. BDO is very much a niche game. Mmorpgs are niche, at least in 2024, and a game like BDO is even more. Also at least when it comes to Elden Ring you'Re talking about a 2 years old game vs a ten years old one.

Also, you do realise that in a SP game like Elden Ring, players are not purchasing things in game daily?  Fromsoftware's revenue is only when people buy the game or dlcs. In a game like bdo even at 16 000 playes online (it's more but let's just count steam) you can count on at least a couple of thousand of those purchasing things in your game every day. Sure it costs money to run server and pay everyone who makes this game, but your playerbase has to fall pretty low for it to  become unsustainable.

And then next, of course, yes, non steam players, which is more than you think considering that Steam is only very popular in the west. It's not as popular in Asia for example and a lot of the playerbase is over there..

You don't need to have that big a core of player to keep a mmorpg profitable. Peeople constantly overestimate this.

For a ten year old mmorpg, BDO could be doing a LOT worse.
