You really did damage to the game by making Open World PvP die.
The issue with PvP has been the same issue as Life Skill and PvE.
- You made the Trinity SEPARATE.
It's like these cursed-accessories. No matter how hard we grind you just move the goal post. We get just about done with Debo and you're like "HAHA, we doubled the time you have to do this all over again! Karazad!"
But now that we have Karazad? The other day I bought one of those 22,000,000,000 silver Accessory-crystals. Slotted into Karazad. Then I put on all the best PvP crystals. And... immediately died to someone I couldn't hit because they have 1200+ Evasion. You'd have to spend 100 billion silver. 100,000,000,000 just to be able to hit this person. And that was a guildie.
This made me realize.
YOU... you Pearl Abyss... are simply never going to let me play this game are you?
- No matter how much I work at getting these accessories done you're just going to put more time on at the end of them? I'll never get out this PvE gear.
- I've tried. For years.
And that's a very huge issue.
You killed PvP to appeal to the carebears, but you killed it long before that very slowly by forever moving the goal post of time-spent to time-earned further out. No matter how hard we work to go back to PvP you are like "DENIED" and then think it's cute.
Well... what? What are we to do? If we ever go past Nov, and I'm not going to try, what will you do? The same thing you did this year. Rip our earnings out from under us and extend the time we just put in.
And then make that item we do earn worth exactly 0 silver. We lost 2.08 trillion silver the morning Karazad came into the game. Really came. But even before that we lost everything we ever gained going after Debos.
The only players who benefited from Kazarad are players who never got a debo to begin with or had MAX Debo AND MAX armor going into it.
For everyone else, you added more time to get back to where we are. And that just so we can FINALLY... after all these years... get off this god awful PvE treadmill and re-engage with the PvP you locked us out of with your senseless forever extension of the grind to gain entry.
- and you have to complete the PvE grind to be competitive in PvP. It's two entirely different sets of gear at exactly the same price.
- price in this game is time-played. How were we ever supposed to get done with this? Debos were FINALLY... FINALLY... almost done and you just added 300 billion onto the end of each of them while saying "hey, if you want that max gear you near to delete all your earnings from all the length of time the game has been out.. just to try" because these things are untradable. You can't even reverse the processs and get the materials back and something of the value spent in the effort.
This set every single loyal player of your game to the same competitive status as the most uninterested weekend gamer -- who tries the game for one weekend never plays again. You just obliterated us at the top end.
And for what? What was the point of this?
It's 20,000,000,000 silver per one of these new crystals. And you realize places to grind that only give 600,000,000 from the new region. And per usual... down in an uninspiring hole. The only pretty spot are the bandits. And they drop even less silver.
PvP is dead because you locked people out of ever getting into it then aggressively went after the karma system rather than harassment-stream bombers.
You could easily improve the PvP scene in numerous ways.
EASILY
But you refuse. I think you have some real phobia you should look into about crowds of people and enjoyment. It's like people who make games like Elden Ring. There's an addiciton to misery. Something is corrupted in your file matrix about what forms bonds and keep people coming back.
A hard swing to PvE isn't going to save the game. A balanced relationship between PvP-PvE-Lifeskill would.
- and this isn't hard to do.
- It really is not.
When people PvP give them a milllion silver for each kill. If they hang around the corpse where the person just died. Say within 30 meters? No reward.
Close the gap in time between getting PvE and Lifeskill gear.
Create an ACTUAL dungeon. You really have several of these already. Do an Elvia Pila Ku where the players can select to enter it at Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum difficulty. The four areas are shared, but they get progressively better loot for being there. It doesn't need to be intensely harder. People get sick of "punching a tree". You NEED to stop making getting better gear feel like it is a punishment and something you scorn. Let anyone at any gear join any of the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum so they can journey together. And let them only do some % difference like 100% to -20%. Then as they go from Bronze to Silver increase that % a bit. So that gear matters more and having better gear feels like it matters more. Encouraging both the veteran and newbie to have some urges. Continue to where Platinum difficulty is just absurd.
Sometimes just have a money drop. Like a gold backpack but better. This way it just feels like once an hour or so you are promised a 50 to 100 million bonus. Something that just says, "hey, it wasn't just a slog".
Lastly, let this kind of thing be available on a dedicated PvP server where the rewards are better. People will love it.
And stop moving the goal posts. If you think people are going to put up with this much longer you're done. They're already done. You tricked us. We recognize it. You don't. And this won't work twice. You won't be able to abandon this game then go make another. NCsoft went backrupt because they are awful people. Don't join them.
Really, we love you. Stop hurting yourself.
They need to make everything in the game relevant. Back when I started in 2020, all grades of gear were similar enough that you could use all types and not be so outclassed by others with different gear types.
Needless to say, we're way beyond that now. Everythinsg need to be updated to be approximately as useful as sovereign weapons. They need to create that next step beyond reform stones and caphras to make normal and boss weapons viable and relevant. Everything should be able to get you to the highest point, just in different ways. And yeah, they shouldn't be gross 10-year time-sinks.
Since this is a PvP MMO at it's core, (namely, players are not supposed to help each other, they're supposed to compete) there is no story or meaningful quest line to finish and make you feel it was worth it.... there will never be a real endgame. Better gear will always be introduced, so that the players at the top will always have something to reach for. That's to be expected. What PA should do is not create a one-track system to the top, making players regreat that they unwittingly went down the wrong gear path, since it was not what PA selected to make it to end-game.
PA needs to make everything relevant again, and make all gear types not just be fodder for upgrades, but actually be used own their own to get you to the top.
And yes, it is so sad that the Open World is dead. PA created a sterile, barren waste. I will never use Marni zones.
Open world PvP always has been and always will be a joke in this game when you have "PvP" and "PvE" builds/gear.
Bring back pvp with guild wars, but delete pvp gear. When I started play this game I just had to change kutum on nouver... And I also disliked that. But today we have too many things required for PVP and it is annoying.
Yes please! I miss open world PvP being a thing. Not Arsha...
I miss the thrill and the possiblilty of being Pk'd while questing or doing whatever (Tera's lumbertown bridge broke me in REALLY fast, lol). I can afk on Arsha (out of a safe-zone) and come back a few hours later and my character is still alive. Boring. It'd be nice if it was worthwhile and had incentive. I remember when this used to be a PvP game...ah, good times.
As others have stated it'd also be nice if you didn't have to have multiple builds or gear for ONE character. I also miss the days where PvP was SKILL based rather than gear based or FOTM classes...
ANY class should be able to PvE or PvP well based on SKILL, not gear! Stop dumbing things down and bring back unique classes where you actually have to LEARN your class in order to do well. The questions now are always; What is the best class for PvP at the moment (which is also funny considering Pearl Abyss did everything they could to kill PvP)? Answer; the latest class or best geared...there's little challange with the current set-up. Gear carried characters you can button mash to victory.
When people PvP give them a milllion silver for each kill. If they hang around the corpse where the person just died. Say within 30 meters? No reward.
PvP is dead because you locked people out of ever getting into it then aggressively went after the karma system rather than harassment-stream bombers.
I mean, some people play to grief. What if they don't care about a million silver and just want to grief, what happens when PA doesn't have the resources to check because the player isn't able to record the whole ordeal from the get-go?
Pvp isn't only dead because of that. The entire PVP community is to blame aside from PA. Its not just PA's fault. Imagine if the rest of the PVP players said no to harassment or bullying, would that have still happened? You all had a toy. You took that toy and literally threw it down the toilet along with the newbie streamers that came to play with ya'll. Its all fun and games until someone takes it too far and there's always going to be that one person or a bunch who will 100% take it too far. Imagine, they did all that to streamers, what was going on with the normal players that came to play the game? They straight up quit. Right? Now you blame the person who made the game or the rules/regulations. What, are ya'll 6 year olds that don't know right from wrong? Its just funny how everyone wants to blame the dev's and the gaming company but nothing on all the community that stood by on spectator status.
So now, what happens when they do that and the gaming company doesn't have the resources to double check and find 'evidence' to track this kind of behavior? My point here isn't that we shouldn't have open World PVP. My point is about two things. One, if you want PVP back then the entire PVP community should have a basic bottom line of what must not be done. Repeatedly harassing someone for no reason other than : Because I can shouldn't be a thing that everyone is okay with or indifferent to. And second, if they want to bring this back again, they need to figure out a way to be able to know for certain if someone is harassing another person repeatedly. There should be strict regulations with regards to that. Not Value packs given out as apology rewards after finding someone guilty but then reverting the punishment because you have dec'd someone, so you're able to keep finding them and killing them, lmao
By the way, for the PVP/PVE gear they just need to have a tertiary button just like the combat and lifeskill buttons where the combat gear is different, lifeskill tools are equipped in a different window. And for the PVP gear, you have a third window which is setup for pvp. So when you get attacked by a player flagged for pvp or flag yourself up, it automatically calculates hits based on that third PVP combat gear window.
Also, agree on the debo and the grind stuff. One of the reasons that I picked this game was because gear was supposed to last a LONG time before new changes were made. But since I've joined, weapons, accessories, everything is being renewed. I am a bit speechless at this. Feels like. I quit a hamster wheel to pick a ferris wheel for running as replacement.
Go to arsha.
I think it's very complicated to reach a point where everyone is happy, because both those of us who enjoy PvP complain about how it was messed up with the whole KARMA issue and throwing Wars.
The casual players also complained that they couldn't grind anywhere because the fully geared players would kick them out. You might say that the casual players should learn to do PvP, and yes, that's correct. But the game needs to be inclusive and give everyone the opportunity to enjoy it, both those who like PvP and those who don't, since it is supported by everyone's money.
I believe a much simpler solution would be to create more full PvP servers that offer much better rewards, like having a higher drop rate past a certain limit or simply giving more tokens for grinding on PvP servers so players can earn more money. This way, those who want benefits will go there and will have to take the risk of competing with others if they want more profit. I don't see this as unreasonable or difficult to implement.

In the past we had a huge issue with casual and pvp players, just because we had the only spot for good silver. It was orc camp and gyfin. Orc camp you could grind after season and it also was the best silver sport for 720gs people. We had only 2-3 spots and not every channel was elvia. That`s why many people complained.
Today, if you grind orc camp you grind with people that have the same gear, if you grind tungrad you also grind this spot with people in the same gear.
I believe the only good solutuion today would be the same gear for pvp and pve. Because easy to balance classes, you dont have god mode unkillable people and only your skills matter.
We need guild wars, because it makes game alive, people often have conflicts with anybody, we had holy wars, we could group on a spot in fight 20 vs 20 in any time, just because people couldnt divide a spot and it was the fun. Also we could punish people that just come and start grinding with you, without any response. Game must be alive.
Also casual players always have life skills, just increase silver per hour for life skills and go touch grass. Grinding was always dangerous, because not only mobs can kill but people too.
Maybe new hard core servers will be something like you said.
Yea pve is in a way it is to bait you into swiping and speeding progression up. Thats why they let most alternatives to grinding die out or literally taken those out of the game. Thats why you make barely any money in pvp if at all. It's a bait. If you don't like grinding then don't do it go q aos or play something else otherwise you are just being silly.
