The increase in the rewards from fishing are truly a double edge sword. For those making 5B+ a day it's an extra boost which simply helps them achieve their goals faster. On the opposing side it can turn the game literally into an idle rpg with even less incentive than ever to actually play. You can probably make near a trillion silver in a year now just from events and being logged in daily.
It really depends on which side you are on. Additionally, the game is going to be designed around this style of game play. So players not participating in this will need to be much more hardcore to keep up.
You can see it in the final stages of upgrades already. This feels like one of the most demotivating updates in BDO history. Sure, you could get PEN+ accessories by just logging every day month after month, but what is the actual value of them?
This is completely in defiant of everything BDO used to stand for. The first time I saw a level 60 it was fairly impressive. I knew that person spent a lot of effort and time playing when almost no one had achieve such results.
Today, nothing is impressive.
Im fine with PA releasing reused assets, because im not doing them anymore (for 2weeks already). I dont grind anymore, dont do any weekly (yes not even the party and normal bosses).
If PA is fine with me logging in claiming freeshit and afk fish every other day just for the metrics, then im fine doing just that and not spend any money on this game because i dont see a need.

What you are saying though is you are not participating, not active, not doing parties, guild activities etc. Which is your choice to do so, but it's not healthy for the long term health of the game.
It's also not really a viable business model. All F2P games rely on many customers not spending, but they do provide benefit to the game. In doing the forementioned activities. They give others that do pay a reason to play.
People mainly just afking the game are essentially just boosting metrics, but as seen in the quarterly earnings. Those boosted stats don't equate to actual profit.
It's extremely rare to catch those fish. I have 1900 mastery, and 60% auto fishing reduction.
I am at a hot spot, and I make close to a 400-500m. The thing is, one of the games number 1 problems is the amount you have to grind.
People will afk, but also do the weeklies, such as I. Or some will remain afk and gear up this way. It will be slower, but it is possible.
It reduces the need to grind since lets be honest. It is 1 hell of a grind. You can do circles forever and still not be end game. They have offered something to ease the burn. Which I am in full support of.
Now to buff everything else plx XD. Bartering etc. Fishing shouldn't be more than bartering...

In games based primarily on grinding that is the game. You shouldn't shorten it or cap it you simply have literally nothing left. The concept of the game was follow a simple formula that not all games used. That was one of the main draws to the game. You don't just hit level 50 and max out. It was designed to be a slow infinite progression system which was capped only by soft caps and diminishing returns.
That is important for games that intend to have a road map of 10+ years. As opposed to games where you cap out in 2 days or 1 week.
I'm playing a game now that makes BDO's progression look like a joke. It's one of the few rare games that offers litterally unlimited progression in many forms, but maintains balance very well. This was also done in classic games like Asheron's Call.
Their concept is what BDO should have been and had orginally been going for. You go as far as you can. You group with players within your range. Each day you pick off a little more progress towards end game power. That is actually what many where asking for in BDO. Saying spending 30B for a single click was simply to slow. Not in how far you go, but how slow it is. Also, that's not 30B for progress. That's 30B for an almost guarenteed failure. To gain 1 more failstack and try again and again.
Also in true MMO's the grind isn't an issue for those that develop a player base around it. The problem is BDO changed it's customer base in everything. Not just against PVP, but against veteran's and hardcore players. In games like Lineage 2 and Everquest people would spend all night in parties grinding, chatting, and have fun. No one complained about the progress.
There are tricks to max out distance/bonus etc for fishing. You can push higher then that. You can also stack that with many other AFK mechanics and free hand outs. You can also include daily turn in for over 100M-150M true profit per day for 30 seconds with the right setup.
You can truly just AFK progress in BDO to end game at this point. However, it's a real shame you would need to leave the game running all the time for this. It makes the game pretty shallow though. I think it only works for those really invested in the game. As I said if you already grind a few hours a day you can consider it a fair boost. However, I don't like the concept or the idea of being abused in system only designed for marketting. To try to force artificial engagement and show faulty metrics.
I'd rather go the POE 2 way. "Just make a good game"

1900 mastery and your only making 400-500m? are you just selling to the nearest trade vendor or somthing?
I am at 1905 mastery myself and making 1.2b-4b a night afk fishing.

another emotionally weak generation people. lols
go do pvp and you'll see what pen items really value,
and experience how half of much needed ap/dp that can give you in pvps.
there's alot of upgrades to pen items.
and stop comparing your self to afk fishers or active fishers (that's their passion gaming)
and achieving that means no value to you?
your too arrogant plus emotionally weak.
= not a true adventurer.

It's hard to take you seriously when I probably have 100x the active hours you do.
To help educate the community:
Sea Monster Hunting was hardly anyone's passion. The reality is players will take the path of least resistance even when it's not something they enjoy. The more unbalanced it is the more that will participate and the more problematic. The reality is most mid game players and beyond don't even make close to 1B per hour grinding without using Cash Shop items and Agris. Even if they are obtained in the game for free these are essential to make anywhere close to the high end numbers.
If you really push for AFK progress you can probably do over 2B per day by just leaving it running and absolute minimal effort. So if you really want to run it for months on end you can actually get end game gear by just AFK. Not to mention at this point you could have end game gear and level without killing a single mob. BDO (MMO > Single Player Rpg > Idle Rpg)
Back in reality POE 2 shows millions players are looking to just activately play a good game. (Over 1/2 million active at one time just yesterday). AFK fishing does not push BDO in that direction.
So it's not a hypothetical whether the customer base exists. It's well established in many metrics. They just don't want to play BDO because it's being used as a mobile gotcha instead of a "good game".

Lolm - Hit the bargain, always ends up between 200-500.
Teach me? I can't spot what I'm doing wrong tho. Or what do you consider an afk? I'm talking 5-8 hours. Rarely it ever being 8.
+10 Balenos rod, T3 Pet for 20% auto reduc.(not sure if tier matters), Nibbler lightstone set.
And yea, as I said, 1900 mastery.
I take them from Velia to Lolm, trade, hit the bargain bonus, 200-500m depending on rng. I've had the exception of 700.
Also got the fish tank.
I know I could travel to the back of Lolm, but doubt it will make 500-700m difference.
I'd like to know how one makes even 400 million silver. I probably do 100, if I'm lucky. Granted, my mastery isn't high, but just how many Blue Bat Stars are you guys reeling in?
