Hello everyone, given the buff to Guild Bosses income in 2024, it has become a highly popular activity, with thousands of players doing it every day. However, the War Hero (Mercenary) system is outdated, with it receiving little to no updates for many years. As a result of this, hiring mercenaries has become a frustrating experience for recruiters, and even to mercenaries themselves (though, to a lower extent). In this thread, I would like to propose some Quality-of-Life changes that will make hiring mercenaries a much more seamless experience.
◆ Make it so the player family-name is used to remotely hire a mercenary, instead of character-name.
◆ Remove the extra step on hiring a mercenary where the recruiter need to select a specified amount of silver between 1 to 10 million (as a Mercenary payment). This step slows down the mercenary hiring process for no good reason as 10 million silver is negligible in the current state of the game, and most guilds choose to pay 1 silver anyway. If removing this step entirely proves to be technically difficult, it would still be an improvement to remember the last used silver (or pre-set it at a fixed amount), so that the recruiter doesn't have to set the silver manually for every single mercenary.
◆ Add a toggle option to guilds, which allows guild members with mercenary hiring permission to set a fixed amount of Allowance to be automatically given for every hired mercenary. Doing this would significantly streamline the mercenary hiring process, as allowance is required to be given in order for mercenaries to participate in Khan's fight.
◆ Make it so mercenaries can accept the mercenary contract without having to type their character name. If this step was added to avoid misclicks, an opt-in toggle can be added to return this step for those who want it. But for the vast majority of players, this step is not preferable, especially given that it's case-sensitive, and uses character-name, instead of family-name.
◆ Allow mercenaries to be hired from any server, instead of the recruiter and the mercenary needing to be on the same server. Guild membership contracts can now be done from any server, it's reasonable to expect the War Hero system to get the same treatment.
◆ Allow Guild Masters to be hired as mercenaries.
Suggestions by other members of the community:
- Allow mercenaries to have the option to return to their guild without needing to wait until the end of Node/Conquest War, but while retaining the current restrictions where they can't be hired to another guild until Node/Conquest War is over. To prevent interfering with PvP content, this option should only be available if the guild did not sign-up to Node/Conquest War.
- Sort the mercenaries list alphabetically, similar to how Guild Members list is sorted. Currently, the mercenary list is constantly rearranged in incomprehensible ways.
- Allow mercenaries to contribute to guild missions while they are in the hosting guild.
- Add a numerical indicator to the War Hero UI, showing us the maximum and current number of hired Mercenaries (e.g. "7/10").
- Give us a way to mass-distribute Allowance to the currently hired mercenaries (manually giving everyone the same Allowance with a single click), with the potential to expand that functionality to guild members. This function can co-exist with the automatic Allowance giving feature that is suggested above, and would serve to complement it.
- Change mercenaries' guild icon frame color from purple to something else, so that it doesn't overlap with guild staff's frame color, which is also purple.
That would help a lot!

Another QoL that can be added to these amazing ideas:
1- Add a way for players to apply to guild as merc ex: another window like the bell icon for applicants but for mercs
2- Alot of toxic attacks against the guild hosting the guild bosses, so a small fix that might be helpful is to open a realm just like khan's to summon all bosses in the same place kinda like alter of blood
3- Allow mercs to leave the guild at any time of the day without the ablity to mer to another guild in the same day (this way mercs can go back to help in thier guild quests or just chill with thier friends)
4- Allow merc to contribute to guild quests while they are in the hosting guild
ofc some of these changes are extreamly hard to implment but i think the rest as a concept is already a part of the game just needs a little bit of adjustments
Great ideas!
As someone who deals with those issues, your solutions would streamline alot of things and would make inviting mercs way easier. Sometimes mercs get shown as offline when trying to give out allowance, so a predetermined amount of allowance for everyone who gets invited would solve that issue immediately.
It is not outdated, it works as it should for the purpose for which it was made. It's not the system's fault that you want to use it in a different way and it bothers you
