Suggestion(s)/Comment(s):
The current dye system is restrictive and forces players to spend real money for a basic fashion feature. Introducing better options for dyes would enhance customization, increase outfit diversity, and improve overall player satisfaction.
Details:
Currently, there are two ways to dye outfits in Black Desert Online:
- Temporary Dyes (Merv’s Palette) – Requires a Value Pack or Merv’s Palette purchase from the Pearl Shop, granting time-limited access to all dyes. Once expired, dyes revert to their original state.
- Permanent Dyes – Obtained only through RNG dye boxes from the Pearl Shop, with no guarantee of getting the desired color. Removing or changing a permanent dye requires another Pearl Shop item.
While both options are to some extent sellable on the marketplace, demand far exceeds supply, making this method unreliable for acquiring preferred dyes. This system makes fashion customization unnecessarily expensive and restrictive.
Suggested Improvements:
1. Make Merv’s Palette a One-Time Purchase
Instead of being time-limited, Merv’s Palette should be available as a permanent purchase. Many players would be happy to pay for this feature, and it wouldn’t devalue the Value Pack since that offers multiple other benefits. This has been suggested by DeLov before.
Suggested price: 4,000–5,000 Pearls (family-wide) or 500–1,000 Pearls (character-bound).
2. Make Merv’s Palette Free
This would be the most player-friendly option, allowing everyone full freedom in customizing their outfits. Black Desert is known for its detailed character creation and dyes should not be locked behind time-based restrictions, adding to the diversity that this game has to offer.
3. Permanent Dye Revamp – Craftable Dyes
This has been suggested multiple times before, is a complete revamp of the permanent dye system, introducing a craftable dye system similar to the Old Moon furniture workshop.
Mupkie previously suggested that dyes could be crafted using existing colorful resources such as flowers, corals, gemstones, fruits, and vegetables. An additional money sink, similar to the Old Moon Furniture Permit, could help balance the system.
SmolToshi previously suggested adding dye workshops in different cities, reflecting the fact that dyes are already named after regions. This could function similarly to old moon furniture workshops, where players craft dyes using various in-game materials.
Right now, one outfit can have up to 21 dye slots, not including accessories or underwear. Many players own multiple outfits, with new ones being added every few months. A crafting system like this would not only give players more control over their customization but would also create a sustainable economy.
There are two ways to implement this system:
- Craftable dye boxes, where players can craft and trade dyes similar to Lightstones. Either trading the RNG box itself, or the dye itself after opening. This keeps an RNG element but allows players to trade for specific dyes instead of being stuck with unwanted colors.
- Directly craftable dyes, removing RNG entirely but making them non-tradable, similar to the Old Moon furniture system.
Since managing permanent dyes also requires bleach, this item should also be craftable. Bleach allows players to remove dyes from outfits, but currently it’s locked behind the Pearl Shop.
Making it craftable would give players more flexibility in customizing their outfits. Due to its function, it could have a higher crafting cost compared to regular dyes, perhaps requiring rarer materials or a special crafting permit.
Overall, these changes would modernize the dye system, allowing players to express themselves more freely while still keeping some level of in-game effort or investment. I know that such a system takes longer to implement but as it has been suggested several times before, it would be nice to hear about some feedback, as PA has done it before.
Friendly info, bumping is forbidden by the forum rules, so you might want to avoid doing so in the future.
Any of the suggestions would be nice.
I would like to see dyes craftable via alchemy, and sellable on the market, with rarer dyes requiring rarer materials, but common dyes being quite easy to make.
