It has been about 12 years since this game left deveolpment and it's starting to look it.
The only time it looks ok is if you only play it. But soon as you play something new gen like Throne and liberty or Where winds meet, BDO looks exetremly outdated.
It might be an engine problem I'm not sure, but it would be nice they could better the graphics and make it next gen.
Or at least add DLSS 4....
Honestly, I have strong suspicion that they've lowered the graphics settings and texture quality of Remastered to be potato PC friendly for most players. At some point. It did not look this "outdated" back when it first released. It used to be on par with ultra.
Try Ultra and see how amazing everything looks... with that mode, the graphics looks amazing.
Now... to sell a kidney to afford a GPU that will run Ultra at 4K is another matter entirely.
I wouldn't suggest a remaster but an inbetween option of Remastered and Ultra.
They need a whole new engine at this point, not just graphics.
Agreed, looks terrible. I been playing lots of new games and my pallet has been updated. Before I could actually just chill in a city and enjoy the vibe in BDO. Now it just feels outdated and I dont feel immersed anymore. I wish they would do what everyone wishes MMO player wishes game companies would do. Literally remake the game in black space engine, but instead of black desert combat its the same classes and moves but designed for crimson desert real combat. So even the generic npcs are fun to fight. And we fight less of them but they give more rewards because its fun and challening. Instead of grinding its radiant quest based, fun missions. All current clasess on launch and continued new ones. Also make real outfits that fit the classes not this modern kpop junk.
I'll hijack topic and add few issues I have:
- Illumination is bad since beginning. At certain in-game hour it's hard to see anything in remastered, and it's been like that forever.
- Textures pop-in when traveling. Still not fixed after years
- No DLSS and FSR stuck at version 1. Like, come on, it's 2026 and you do have hundreds of developers PA.
- No FPS lock. Small, and external programs can be used, but I doubt it's hard to introduce.
- Notifications. There are still ugly notifications poping up all over the screen. I don't need to know that something important happened in the world; it's all single player MMO anyway.
The first and probably easiest step to improving the graphics would be to create higher resolution textures.
The next step would be to update some of the shaders or completely replace them. I'd say this is most important for walls, water and skin.
The lighting has been broken since Remastered was introduced and I'd consider this more of a bug than anything.
If they actually went and did a Remastered2.0 it would probably attract a whole lot of new players...

Yeah I was playing on ultra yesterday and its almost fine. Yeah lighting is the big thing its so random looking somtimes and depend on your camera and angle of the sun it gets really dark and wierd, so jarring. If they fix your mentions I think it would be great.
Id also like just npcs update in all the areas, giving them updated models and animations. They did it for the quest npcs, but for the world to be immersive even in its current outdated state, the generic npcs need this facelift too. Including outdated wildlife or mobs that look rough by now.
Modders have made skyrim look and play insane. Check out Nolvus mod or Lorerim. How can this company that makes so much money not keep things updated. And their off making all these random games, they should just make the next bdo with everything they learned. Hoping crimson desert multiplayer is basically this minus grinding and adding good graphics, good gameplay and a exciting open world.

Yeah I would love this! Remaster 2.0 would be a dream. I thought I would never come back to bdo with all the next gen games coming out, but its still pretty fun, I just popped back this week, just needs to keep up with one of its core tennents (one of the best looking MMOs).

they need to either overhaul or a new engine, that is engine constrain, and is not the only one.
They'll never upgrade to a new engine. It implies recoding a game from scratch. Not gonna happen. The cost and time are not justifiable for such an old game.
