Everytime i started the game, all of my settings (visuals, hotkeys, etc.) are reseted. Even upload my settings won't work. If i click download, nothing happens. Is this a common problem? How can i fix it? I want to try this game out, but damn that kills my mood :(

How are you closing the game? Are you closing via the menu, or via task manager/other?

Sometimes i go back to character creation and then disconnect, or just disconnect. Never ALT+F4 or killing the process in Taskmanager.

What could be happening is settings file being in read only mode in Windows and BDO silently fails at providing a relevant error message.

An easy way of troubleshooting this is trying to run BDO in Administrator mode and seeing if settings get saved this way, since afaik running as admin overrides read only flag.

1st make sure the folder where the settings are stored, are not write protected.

You can find it here: "C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Black Desert"

2nd make sure the Documents folder is not cloud syncronised with OneDrive.

OneDrive changes the Documents folder location to "C:\Users\<Username>\OneDrive\Documents" so BDO can't find the settings.

2 years later, same borked code....

Save settings test (before server / character select)

1) Play from steam
2) Start game
3) Settings (start/quit/Settings page)
4) Performance Optimization
5) Enable "miss effect" why? Easy test
6) Apply
7) Confirm
8) Quit
9) Repeat... if miss effect is disabled, you're borked.

Notice that in this thread and others, noone replies "thanks that fixed it"

This is a dev issue.   Devs have not bothered to fix it.

Sooo, is this fixable in any way? Because I tried everything I could find online, nothing worked.

Thanks for the test to see if i'm borked. But if I'm borked, am I borked forever then? Because again, nothing worked.

----------------

EDIT:

So of all the solutions I found online, the one thing that worked for me, was leveling a character to level 15. After that, it saved the settings no problem.

How on earth is this a feature/bug? I don't even know at this point, if this is intended or not, because I just can't imagine how this could be a bug. If it is a decision, it is the most baffling, dumbest decision I ever encountered in a videogame ever. Unimaginably stupid, locking the ability to save settings behind level ups.

Also a friend of mine who also just bought the game and freshly installed it, did the test thing mentioned above and only changed the single setting of showing misses or not. When he restarted the game, he got the "error code 30005", completely beeing unable to start the game because EasyAntiCheat said so.

Why is this game trying so hard to not be played?

So I'm had this issue, but i manage to fix it.
Run Black Desert in administrator mode and in the launcher on the top right just change the settings and it's makes it permanent in the game.

Worked for me. Hope it helped some people.

In case this helps someone else, as I’m a new player and this confounded me for hours. Every thread I Googled did not tell me this.

Long story short, keybind saving is basically “fake” until level 10, when “Edit UI” unlocks.

There’s a Settings Archive where you can upload/download your settings (including keybinds). BUT before level 10, even though you can access Settings Archive, your keybind changes won’t actually commit in a way that survives a full game restart. In my case, keybinds would stick if I went to character select and logged back in during the same session, and I could even see files updating on exit… but the moment I fully closed the game and relaunched, everything snapped back to default.

The fix (what finally worked):

  1. Hit level 10 (unlocks Edit UI).
  2. Change a keybind and hit Apply.
  3. Go into Edit UI and save to a preset slot (I saved Preset 1).
  4. Exit cleanly (I went to Character Select, then exited).
  5. Relaunch the game — keybinds now persist normally.

Most other threads cover the following (and these could still be overlapping issues for some people), but they were NOT the cause for me:

  • Make sure OneDrive isn’t redirecting/overwriting your Documents → Black Desert folder
  • Turn off Steam Cloud Save
  • Make sure you’re quitting properly (not Alt+F4), and ideally exit from Character Select

TL;DR: If you’re under level 10, your keybinds may not save across restarts. Hit level 10, save an Edit UI preset once, then restart — it should start sticking.
