The existing spirit essence's should've been made Ancient Odore/Ornette automatically during maintenance just like the existing pot pieces were to avoid this issue. Hopefully PA does something in an upcoming patch to fix this for folks. 

I made a similar mistake and the support told me I'm need to go fuck off, and apparently, most of the community agree with support, if you make a mistake you are SoL.

It's reddit, because they allow downvoting you will see a lot of it for every post. You could say you cured cancer (and very well have), you'll have a 12% upvote rating on the BDO sub. The only reason why these forums aren't like that is because there isn't a downvote button.

Support will be happy to refund a streamer hundreds if not thousands of dollars from failed melt attempts but not a minor event item that was poorly implemented. The craziest part is that there's a quest in the game (at least one) where if you do it before another quest, you can't ever get that item. It's an XP book that you can equip, forgot the name but it's family bound (one time only). Imagine not following an online guide? You would be screwed. They can prevent this but they don't.

Is ancient version something special? The patch notes are very unclear if ancient is some kind of limited version? Why everyone goes for ancient?
