Combat System Overhaul

As we shared during the Heidel Ball 2025, Black Desert's combat system has undergone a major overhaul. We focused on the areas we'd identified as problematic, but since various mechanics in the combat system interact with one another, we made adjustments across the board.
 
Our aim was to refine the very structure of combat—polishing its foundation—while keeping each class’s performance as close as possible to what you're used to. That said, because so many elements have changed, you might notice things feel a bit different. We'll keep listening to your feedback and watching the data to make further improvements.
 
Additionally, as announced in a separate notice, all characters’ skills, Skill Add-ons, and skill presets have been reset as part of ensuring a stable application of today’s update. We ask for your understanding regarding this change. To help ease any inconvenience this may cause, we’ve provided all Adventurers with a Secret Book of Old Moon (30 Days). We hope it will assist you during this transition.

Balancing Base Stats Across Classes
  • Adjusted the differences in the following base stats for each class.
    • AP Increase stat
    • DP Decrease stat
    • Special Attack Damage Increase stat

  • Changed how Special Attack damage effects from skills stack:
    • Special Attack damage from skills and Skill Add-ons now stack together.
    • Individual Special Attack damage effects (such as Back Attack Damage and Critical Hit Damage Increase) do not stack with each other. However, individual Special Attack damage and All Special Attack damage effects will stack.
      • Example 1: Critical Hit Damage Increase and All Special Attack Damage Increase will stack.
      • Example 2: If you have Back Attack Damage +10% and +15%, only the +15% applies.
      • Example 3: Back Attack Damage +10% and Critical Hit Damage +5% will stack.
 

Changes to Resistance and Ignore Resistance Stats

  • Changed it so Resistance stats no longer apply in PvP, and removed Ignore Resistance stats as a result.
    • Adjusted the effects of certain passive skills for some classes that previously increased or ignored Resistance.
    • Adjusted the effects of certain unique buff skills for some classes that previously increased or ignored Resistance.
    • Changed or removed Resistance increase, decrease, or Ignore Resistance effects from certain class skills in line with these Resistance changes.

  • Standardized all characters' base Resistance to 20%.
    • Standardized the base Resistance for Berserker, Witch, and Wizard to 20%.

Grapple Skill Changes
  • Adjusted grapple skills to reflect the changes to Resistance and Ignore Resistance stats.
    • Added a unique visual effect to all grapple skills so they're easy to identify.
    • Adjusted melee and ranged grapples to have a 0.3 second startup time before activating.
    • Adjusted dash grapples to have a 0.4 second startup time before activating.
    • Changed grapple success or failure to be determined instantly when you attempt the grapple.
    • Changed it so all characters gain Super Armor on Grapple fails, and can perform other actions after 0.4 seconds.
    • During the first 0.3 seconds of the grapple startup, your character can rotate based on the camera direction.
      • However, during Nova's Punishing Trap, Hashashin's Constriction, and Sage's Seize, your character can only rotate towards the camera direction immediately after casting, and cannot rotate afterwards.
      • During Corsair's Heart-catcher Patraca, your character can rotate when cast in place, but if comboed after another skill, the same rule applies as above.
    • Added failure animations for certain classes when their grapple skills fail:
      • Warrior - Take Down
      • Valkyrie - Punishment
      • Ninja, Kunoichi - Death's Descent
      • Ninja - Flash Bondage
    • Improved the animation for Tamer's Soaring Kick on Grapple fails to look more natural.
      • Fixed so that after failing, you can smoothly combo into other skills (other skills become available after 0.4 seconds).
 

Summon Damage Calculation Formula Changes

  • Changed so the character's Special Attack damage Increase effects now apply to the summons' damage.
  • Changed so buffs that increase damage now also boost summons' damage.
    • Example: Applies in places such as Yzrahid Highlands, Tungrad Ruins, and Gyfin Rhasia Temple (Underground).
  • In PvP, monster-related stats (such as Monster Damage Reduction and Monster Damage Reduction Rate) no longer affect damage taken from summons.
  • Changed so summons no longer become stronger at night.
  • Adjusted the base damage of summons to keep their overall power about the same after these changes.
    • Reduced the damage of direct attacks by summons (except Black Spirit skills) by 36.5%.
 

Accuracy Rate and Evasion Rate Removed

  • Merged Accuracy and Accuracy Rate, as well as Evasion and Evasion Rate, to make character stats easier to understand.
    • Removed Accuracy Rate and converted each 1% into Accuracy +4.
    • Removed Evasion Rate and converted each 1% into Evasion +4.
 

No Mouse Movement During Skill Use

  • Changed so you cannot use mouse movement while using a skill.
    • You can still use mouse movement in a situation like Gathering or basic movement, just like before.
 
 


Notes on Changes per Class

Today’s update brings several significant balance changes to each class. Notably, classes that previously relied on “mouse movement” controls and Shai’s signature skill, Misty Haze, have undergone adjustments that players will definitely notice.

We approached these changes with great care and consideration. While we understand some of you may be disappointed, please know these tweaks are necessary to ensure Black Desert continues moving in a positive direction and to achieve our long-term vision for the game. We ask for your understanding and support.

It’s important to note that today’s patch is just the starting point. We believe that continuous monitoring and ongoing improvements are essential to truly “complete” these changes. Going forward, we’ll keep a close eye on class roles and performance, making further adjustments as needed. We’re committed to refining and evolving the game using a variety of methods to deliver the best experience possible.

Damage Ratios

Damage Ratios determine the percentage of damage one class deals to another. Previously, these ratios varied significantly across classes. To make PvP more intuitive and balanced, all classes now share a base Damage Ratio of 89.29%. However, to keep each class's unique role and flavor, we've sorted them into three groups: Vanguard, Skirmisher, and Pulverizer. Depending on the opponent's group, you'll deal or take an extra 5% damage against or from that group. 
  • Adjusted all classes so their base damage ratio is now set to 89.29%.
  • Each class (with Succession and Awakening counted separately) is now grouped into Vanguard, Skirmisher, or Pulverizer, and the damage ratios between these groups are applied as follows:
    • Vanguard - Deals +5% damage to Pulverizers
    • Skirmisher - Deals +5% damage to Vanguards
    • Pulverizer - Deals +5% damage to Skirmishers

Ship Damage Adjustments

With today's combat system overhaul, we've made broad adjustments to ship skills and cannon damage.
Notably, ship-to-ship damage has been reduced by about 45–55%, and some ship gear now provides extra damage reduction.
 
These changes are aimed at balancing the upcoming Blue Battlefield (Naval Node War). Previously, ship damage was so high that ships could get blown up too quickly if lots of captains joined the fight, so we felt a careful rebalance was needed.
 
We've also combined the Extra Damage to Ships and Extra Damage to Sea Monsters effects on certain ship gear such as Sea Crystals and cannons. This adjustment is intended to ease the burden of having to prepare two types of equipment separately, improving efficiency in both monster hunts and naval battles.
 
We'll keep an eye on things after the update and continue to listen to your feedback.
  • Updated ship combat as follows:
    • Damage to other ships is now reduced by 45–55%.
      • Damage to Sea monsters stays the same.    
  • Added Damage Reduction Rate to the descriptions of ship items such as gloves and figureheads.

Debuff Resistance Against Monsters Removed

Previously, when a monster applied a debuff effect, the game performed two separate checks—first against your regular Resistance stat, then against your Debuff Resistance Against Monsters stat—giving you two chances to block the debuffs.
With the new combat system, only your Resistance stat is used against all monster debuff effects. The Debuff Resistance Against Monsters stat has been removed, and any items that boosted it now provide the All Resistance effect instead.

Monster & Monster Zone Updates

With the overhaul of the combat system, we’ve also rebalanced the various monster zones.
 
The goal of this balance update is to ensure that adventurers can achieve optimal efficiency by fighting in zones that match their current AP. As a result, you may notice reduced efficiency if you subjugate in zones where your AP exceeds the recommended AP.
 
This change is intended to encourage adventurers to progress to higher-level zones as their AP increases. Revenue has also been adjusted so that you can earn greater rewards in monster zones with higher recommended AP.
 
Since this update brings significant changes, we’ll continue to monitor the situation closely and make further improvements to ensure the game develops in the right direction.

Agris Fever Points Adjustments
During the July 12 Global Lab, we mentioned plans to balance Agris Fever efficiency across the board. While testing, we noticed that if every monster zone consumed Agris Fever at the same rate, some lower‑AP zones could actually become more profitable.
To fix this, we're setting Agris Fever consumption per hour on live servers to range between 20,000 and 30,000, depending on the zone's difficulty. This way, the Silver you earn with Agris Fever will better match each monster zone's difficulty.
  • Changed Agris Fever consumption across all zones following the more detailed recommended and max AP limits update for monster zones.
    • Rebalanced Agris Fever usage based on the Silver you can earn in each zone.

Hunting Monster Balance Changes

  • Changed the damage formula for Hunting and Sniper Hunting monsters.
    • Damage is now fixed, rather than random between a minimum and maximum value.
    • On average, damage has increased by about 1–2% when Back Attack and Critical Hits apply.

Item

Merv’s Carry-on Bag was created with fashion-forward Adventurers in mind—those who enjoy mixing and matching different outfit combinations. This item allows you to instantly swap your entire look in one go. Simply store an outfit in the bag, and when using the "Change Outfit" function, your currently equipped costume will be exchanged 1:1 with the one stored inside.
 
However, because it performs a full 1:1 swap, if you only own one item for certain slots—such as weapon appearances or underwear—those items will be unequipped and moved into the bag during the switch. This may cause a slight inconvenience if you don’t have extras for those slots.
 
To account for this, we’ve decided not to remove the “Change Outfit” feature from Patrigio’s Apparel Bag. This way, you can use both Merv’s Carry-on Bag and Patrigio’s Apparel Bag together, depending on your needs.
 
If you’re looking to save and swap full outfit sets at once, Merv’s Carry-on Bag is your go-to. For mix-and-match customization of individual pieces, Patrigio’s Apparel Bag remains the better choice.
 
We’ll continue working to improve convenience and make your fashion experience in Black Desert even more enjoyable.

Adventure Log Reward Changes

Adventure Log—often called "core progression" by our adventurers—is a vital feature in Black Desert that boosts key stats like AP and DP for your entire Family.
Over time, it has become an essential part of the Black Desert experience, but with rewards spread across multiple logs, completing everything has started to feel overwhelming.
 
To make things simpler, all stat rewards—including AP, DP, Accuracy, Evasion, Max Stamina, Max MP, and Max HP—will now be consolidated into a single log: Igor Bartali’s Adventures (excluding Event Logs). You'll only have to complete this one log to claim all your stat rewards. If you've already finished the logs, any new or changed rewards will be available to be claimed via the Black Spirit's Safe.
 
If you haven't finished them yet, we hope this update encourages you to tackle them at your own pace and earn a variety of rewards.
  • Adjusted the Family-wide stat rewards from certain Adventure Log upon completion.
    • Updated rewards have been sent to the Black Spirit's Safe (B) for adventurers who had already completed the affected Adventure Logs.

Pit of the Undying

Previously, you had to complete four daily quests to get all the rewards from the Pit of the Undying. To ease the daily burden, these have been changed to weekly quests—you’ll only need to complete them once a week now.
 
Quest rewards have also been adjusted, so you’ll receive similar rewards with just one completion. While the number of Seal of the Undying rewards has decreased, the maximum number of Crow’s Black Jewels you can earn has increased, letting you take on higher-tier insignia quests faster than before.
 
Additionally, with the upcoming combat system overhaul, the attack patterns and visual effects of Pit of the Undying monsters will be updated and improved.

    • Added a mechanic where its buff can be removed by applying a debuff in certain situations. 
"Iron Fist Champion" Duran
  • Changed its special attack from 2 times to 1 time in certain situations.

  • Changed so that even if you fail the mechanic and enter the enhanced combat phase, the phase will reset after a certain time.
"Undying Shadow" Solaria
  • Adjusted the damage and hit count of some of its attacks.

Upper Screen Notification Improvements for Cooking and Alchemy
As part of the UI improvements revealed at the Heidel Ball 2025, today’s update brings changes to the notification messages that appear at the top of the screen during Cooking and Alchemy.
Previously, these notifications would pop up repeatedly while performing Cooking or Alchemy, which could become distracting—especially since these activities often involve many repeated actions. Additionally, if you minimized and then restored the game window, all accumulated messages would display at once, causing further inconvenience.
With this update, top notifications will no longer appear during Cooking or Alchemy sessions. This is just the first step—we’re also working on additional UI enhancements that will be rolled out in future updates to further improve your gameplay experience.
  • Changed the notification method for successful Cooking/Alchemy.  
    • Removed the notification message that used to appear in the center of the screen. You can still check results through the Item Drop Log.

 

[Enhancement UI Improvements]

At the last Heidel Ball, we announced that Enhancement UI improvements would arrive on July 30. Along with streamlining enhancement terminology, we’re finalizing new features like an enhancement-exclusive inventory. 
However, to avoid confusion when many adventurers enhance Sovereign Sub-weapons and Edana’s Defense Gear with the August Edania update, we’ve decided to reschedule the update for a later date to ensure everything is polished and ready. 
 
We appreciate your understanding and will do our best to deliver these improvements as soon as possible, in the most stable way we can.
