Hello, It's me. HouseOfAlicia
This is mainly for the NA/EU region, but can apply to others as well, However I am looking specifically at EU for this

**edited this post because of confusion**

Greetings my fellow Adventurers, and everyone else, there is something else that's been on my mind that I want to share and suggest an improvement for. As I am sure we have all seen. We have all seen the freaking ads of "let me grind for you for $$$" stupid ads in server chats, group chats, and anywhere else these scammers can shove a message infront of our faces, but alright, we're no idiots. But what about our new players, and then there is the toxicity of Lunar Halo in, which is the "new player chat" that everyone is dumped in, why is this the "help" channel when it's filled with degenerates? My main grievance but I also want some addition for education on all the different chats in the game, how to use them, and shortcut hotkeys

New players (first time character creations on brand new accounts) should have wide spread chats hidden until they vanquish red nose and reach velia! They should be around level 10 at this point, where chat is already locked behind being level 7 or higher only difference here is actually playing the game, remember this is for a first time account, and reaching velia, where they would then get a tutorial/UI tutorial that introduces them to chat groups, how to pick one, then they can join one if they wish, introduce server, general, party, whispers, and other chats. Etc as well as how to change groups and lists all the slash commands to change chats. HOWEVER, new players should still have access to Whisper, Party, Guild, and General chats. So they aren't cut off if a friend is there for their first moments in the game. And if this system is added, the level 7 chat restricion should be removed so their friends can communicate with them from the very start.

The why: 1. New player protection from scams, yeah common sense, but also why is everyone shoved into 1 group at the start, that is also currently full of pervs and creeps? Why do they not have the freedom to select the group they want to start with. And where is the solution to actually getting rid of these people trying to scame others out of their accounts? I see them every day across server and chat groups, over and over, and it seems nothing is being done about it.
2. For new adventurers there is currently 0 explanation of the chatting system or introduction to any of the communication channels, to the point many players are still ignorant of how to use them, and bringing attention to groups with a tutorial quest will help bring attention to them for each and every player in the game and they can know said groups actually exist and maybe encourage more interaction.

Once again, thank you for reading my fellow adventurers, till we meet out in the world of Black Desert, take care! - Alicia

+1!

Currently the new player experience is being thrown into Lunar full of trolls and pedos, who not only won't help you, they will laugh at you and disgust you with constant Shai-related obscenities. It's literally same thing as someone completely new to the internet comes in and the first site is not Google, but 4chan's /b/.

I understand the need of new player chat where they can ask for help, but it really needs to be moderated.

Plus the like trading with other trolls and with own multiple accounts leads to them often having crowns, making new players think their opinion is most relevant. This should also be addressed, maybe by giving chat moderators ability to remove / reduce the likes for heavy offenders. And pedos should be chat-banned completely, without having to write a ticket.

Agreed. That was the reason i stopped using group chats.

You forgot to ask them to add an easier and working report user system than go to support>screen shot and then wait for an answer...

Perverts and people insulting etc in the chat is more their problem than ours and is their job to keep it clean they shoeld make easier for us to help them do it...

Maybe they could make Lunar Halo a time-limited chat.  If you are a new player, you stay there for 90 days.  If you are an existing player, you stay there for 30 and then have to wait 30 days before you can go back again.

Yes, please! That will help getting rid of RMTers. Sadly, that will also open the gates of abuse. With people reporting each other out of spite or just for the lols. It's probably why the only valid way to do it is still the ticket.

The problem with this is that someone who knows the game well needs to be there to answer those questions. 'Cause newbies asking newbies won't help much either. Thing is, you can't code for common-sense. Neither in-game, nor irl. Each time you try to enforce it, someone who didn't need it enforced will suffer for it, somehow.

I feel like there are two issues at play here and both need to be addressed.

1. Lack of an Adequate Reporting System:

Currently there is only a report spam button which does nothing and even if it did the judgement of any restirctions would be based upon "spam" criteria and not harassement, trolling, or anything else.

The current workaround for this is to create a ticket from the website and enter all the valid information required. However this workaround can be very ineffective and inefficient as to accurately report somone you must find and copy what they said in a quickly scrolling chat; or can be abused by typing in something the person never said.

Suggestions:

Change the "Report Spam" button to "Report". Clicking this button will automaticaly:

1. Log the name of the individual (you clicked on to open the report) as well as the time, date, chat group, and the text they typed.

2. Open a Chat Report Ticket that contains all the chat rules in a numbered list at the top, as well as the information (previously logged in the step above) automatically filled out below in an uneditable block. (This gives the reporting individual the opportunity to review the rules and determine if the information logged by the system is actually in violation of those rules).

3. An additional information block below, where the reporting individual can designate which rule/s were the believe were broken and enter further context or situational information.

4. If needed an additional detrimental measure could be implemented for false or spam reporting such as chat suspensions.

2. Designated New and Returning Player Chats:

The current system fails to take into account that new and returning players are not the only ones who have questions. The timed nature of the current system fails to ensure players with questions can reach experienced players who would answer those questions in a constructive manner. The second failure is the lack of control in ensuring the quality of the answers players recieve.

Suggestions:

1. Whichever chat is chosen as the designated Question and Answer chat must have a Pearl Abyss employee moderating it at all times to ensure compliance with the rules governing the Q&A chat. This should not ever be moderated by the players themselves.

2. The rules for this chat should be stricter than those of any other chat. It is only for asking/answering questions about the game and should not be seen as a social or advertising channel. Infractions should met with immediate suspensions.

3. The timer needs to go. Players at any stage should have access to this for both the purposes of asking as well as answering questions.

If the three measures above are implemented correctly I believe such a chat group would greatly help the community. Experienced players who enjoy helping others in constructive ways would be drawn to a chat that allows them to do so when such a chat is protected from the scams, spams, and general trash talk of other chat groups. It would also allow players new or otherwise, who might have outstayed the ambigious timer, to quickly hop in and ask advice of those who would gladly help. No player hops into the game and suddenly gains all game knowledge at the end of a 30, 60, or 90 day timer; why does PA treat them like they do?

I am an eternal nublet in this game so take what I suggested above with a grain of salt. They are, like anything else, just my opinion so feel free to pick them apart, add to them, twist them etc...

Good Luck to all and Good Hunting.

No... just no. Attempting to shelter new players from the evil of the world of BDO by restricting their access to features (yes, up until a certain point) is definitely not the right approach. What you're suggesting is a temporary parental control mode. How is this going to make the new player's experience better? What if they wanted to socialize/chat with someone else, but because of this, they can't? Not only do they not get the help/socializing they desire, it also solidifies the idea that BDO is not a social game. It gives a bad first impression about the game.

It's also worth noting that not everyone will want to complete this checklist of conditions (that is a bad approach to begin with), so they would be stuck with lesser features for a long time, or even permanently, then the natural thing to occur is we get a swarm of complaints on Reddit/Disord/Forums about why the heck are X, Y, and Z features inaccessible.

What we should be advocating for is smarter default options and increased user-choice, not decreased choice!

I don't think this is a good idea. It's particularly at the beginning of the adventure that players need to be able to use the group chat. The Lunar Halo Inn has helped me countless times when I was stuck or troubled with all the inconveniences of BDO. The player delegates (or whatever they are called) who are farming likes are always super quick to reply and super helpful. Of course there are degenerates and $$$ scammers, but these need to be moderated by GMs, not just disabling chats.
