CUSTOM CONTROLLER SETTINGS FOR PVE

Hello! Do your hands sometimes get tired when grinding or gathering or hunting or sailing? Do you just want to lean back with your feet propped up and chill? If you haven't yet, try a controller. And if you have and didn't like the base settings, try these settings.

These settings were originally posted by me in Guardian Discord around 2 years ago. For Guardian it works very naturally in PVE and I find the same holds for Valkyrie. I've been told by various other classes that it works for them too, such as Berserker, Witch/Wizard, and Ranger.

You will want to spend some time getting used to it, just like you would with any new peripheral.

STEP 1)

Activate Controller in Settings -->> Interface Settings -->> Gamepad Interface -->> Use Gamepad

Step 2)

Navigate to Action Hotkeys in Interface Settings. Double-check that you are editing Gamepad and not Keyboard.

Step 3)

Refer to the chart below for what you'll be editing. Change the Combined Keys first, or you will encounter an error.

HOW TO USE QUICK SLOT HOTKEYS ON CONTROLLER

Using controller will not lock you out of using your Hotbar. You just have to hold the Combined Key to use it. Hold it down, then press A, B, X, or Y.

NOTES

This XBOX Controller set up for PC players is for easy PVE only. No high-end PVE, no PVP -- just easy PVE.

The BACK button on the controller is CTRL and the START button is ESC (these are automatically set and cannot be changed).

You cannot map the big XBOX button to any key. I tried. If you get it to work, DM me!

I haven't delved in to putting Push-To-Talk on controller yet, but it is possible in your Windows Settings. You might use Right Thumb or Left Thumb for that, but you will be sacrificing the use of Z & X.

If you encounter PVP, just hit DPad DOWN for Emergency Escape and switch your hands back to your keyboard.

Some controllers have buttons on the back (sometimes called paddles). For example the Xbox Elite Controller, or my personal preference, the 8bitDo Pro 2 controller.

These can be remaped to any controller input. I use mine for push-to-talk but it can be a very convenient to use these as they offer an extra level of ergonomics. Some inputs can be made without ever removing your fingers from the thumbsticks.

I'm not sure what the practical application can be in Black Desert but there can definitely be uses cases within the game.

From what I can tell this doesn't effect the button mapping when Gamepad UI is enabled. When the UI is enabled the settings seem unchangable. Who designed this? Why is it so hard?
