If you die fighting the Cadry Chief Gatekeeper, because of the thin layer of water in the arena it spawns in, you get the underwater death animation. If you use a tear or anything at all to revive on the spot, it counts you as being underwater for a few frames, so he gets free hits on you and will kill you multiple times if you're unlucky. 
It has been this way for as long as I can remember, and I was uncertain if this was intended, but it's definitely not fair to be punished for using revive items.
