Elementary mathematics: price of materials increased significantly and price of imperial boxes remained the same.
And because trash from mobs give you 10-20 times more, profit from imeprial boxes is practically zero compared to the money from thrash and the demand for money by players.

As above: too high cost of materials for production of anything to be meaningful.
Also alchemy requires materials from various sources, so collecting them yourself will not yield enough of them.
