I disagree. I don't think any player should lose their family name or character names just because they are inactive. Punishing players who are taking a break from the game just because they have a name you want is not the answer. There are lots of great names that are still available, you just need to be creative. :)

I have to agree, the game is way past due purging inactive names. MMOs do this all the time to free up names from accounts that are not used.

Someone who made their account in 2016 and didn't transfer in early 2021 is gone from the game and you should be able to use their family and character name.

Also, don't new accounts just get a random Adventurer258390 name on their character until they reach a certain level? I'm pretty sure that happened to my guildies when they joined.

No thanks.   1+ year gone, name should get deleted.   Basic cyber security principles... lock account after so much time, delete after so much time.

Agreed. People that haven't logged in in years should lose their names. Not their accounts but def free up names for new players. Some level 5 characters abandonded since 2021 hold some good names.

names like Ben and Cat and Jin where taken i remember checking thos ein 2016. nowdays i see many people with 3 digit names ingame. some have account created 2023. So either they ninja rename old accounts to "Rookie Adventure" or they already have another system in place.

Hard pass on title but the very limited player makes account never gets past say lvl 10 spent no pearls ya sure that guy ain't coming back. You can't take someone names esp in bdo where people take breaks and come back multiple times. It was even bs when they didn't migrate accounts if you didn't see that email 3y ago but all those names were freed up when they did that. Wow had my acc from 13y ago. Gw2 still there. Most games don't do that because if you returned to games and your names were gone you might not start playing again and if your acc was gone you sure af ain't stating over so they would lose out on income. I'm sorry you can't have that cool anime name cuz someone beat you to it.

The "potential revenue from a returning player" argument doesn't make much sense given that it's generally a low-likelihood outcome for those long term inactive accounts. Deleting old names would guarantee pearl sales from active players purchasing name change coupons.
