I park my horse near Hakkon, as there is no stable nearby, and do the quest at the Serendia Shrine. When I talk to Hakkon afterwards he then teleports me to Calpheon. Now I am separated from my horse and the only recourse is to run all the way back. You need a warning if you are going to teleport. That was frustrating.

You can remote collect your horse at the nearest stable regardless of where it is in the world. Or if you have the fully upgraded horse whistle (Cash Shop) you can also whistle it from anywhere in the world.

Thanks for that info. Maybe I did not think Remote Collection worked cause I was unable to collect my mount the last time I tried. Or, maybe I just not have enough silver to afford it. (Only been playing a couple weeks.) Anyway, really appreciate info about the whistle. I see the Pearl Shop has a flute and a horn for sale. Real easy to spend money at the Pearl Shop but is definitely something I will buy. When I decide who my main will be since that tool is not account-wide.
