Correct. I've been talking about this for years. Too many items are behind p2w wall without being able to get them in the game simply by playing. And even if their counterparts are in the game, it is a joke not a true equivalent like eg. "free" tent.
Conclusion: you have to buy from IS, or you will never have them.
That's why these "200 USD worth of prizes" are a joke for me, because if I simple got 20,000 pearls from PA, I would buy completely different items from IS that would actually be useful to me and which I would use.

These are virtual items, their value is ZERO.
If the PA sets up an outfit for 100 USD and a pet for 100 USD, you will say that they are worth a total of $ 500?
You still don't understand that I would prefer to choose items worth 200 USD from the IS because I don't need outfits, premium, books, etc.

Free stuff for logging in is a cheap attempt in order to make players even bother logging into the game. This is usually employed by games that lack of content.
And you are wrong. This tactic is not unique to bdo, and it's not new either. Games with lacking content (especially asian ones and mobile games) do this since ages, while games that are played cause they are fun generally not have two """event""" running all the time with multiple free stuff giveaway just for logging in...
