Well, he's or she is only three days in.  Fenced off on the season server or Olvia and below the level that would exempt him or her from PVP, so its pretty early to judge what might seem childish to him, or her.

But anyway, hopefully the OP will have a positive experience from the community overall.  I think an MMO retaining new players is mostly dependent on how toxic the player base is in the game, so we'll see.

This is not true actually. The new player retaning mostly deepens on new player experience, like starting questline, how easy it is to players to start and learn the game, while it also should be fun etc.

But bdo is kidna bad in that sense.

You can't be really toxic to a new player as you can't impact it's game at all. There is no PvP for low level either.

It was much, much worse before, in the "starting questline, how easy it is to learn the game, while also being fun" department.  New players, in today's game, have much, much more going for them currently, as compared to when I first started that one could argue it actually is "kinda good", instead of "kinda bad", like you (always) tend to say here.  The game has streamlined itself so much over the 5-6 years I've mained BDO.

How easy it is to start and learn the game:

- Season = Allows new players to play worry-free from PvP and focus on gearing, questing, and exploring.

- Starting questline revamp = You can even start in Mountain of Eternal Winter.  It may not be "universally good", since everyone has their own taste, but it is objectively better than what we previously had (I liked the MoEW quest experience.  Was something new to BDO and Lando's voiceacting was excellent and made me smile a few times.)

- Progression Pass = Maybe it's not "perfect", but I think it's pretty damn good when you combine it with

- Tons of QoL and free stuff = So much QoL updates over the years, too much to list. UI adjustments, seeing enhancement rates, scroll boss combined scrolls, 3D map, and more.  They hand out free stuff frequently, just for playing the game and being engaged.  Maids, pets, costumes, weight, materials, J Hammer's, Cron Stones, Drops from watching streamers, free stuff just for logging in and being engaged.

- So much new-player online guides = Now that BDO has reached maturity, there's so many resources online for new players to research.  Got stuck on a quest back when I started?  Ask a guildie, ask world chat, wander confused for hours, wasting time.  Still can't find the answer?  SOL.  Now?  Google it and you're set.  There are guides from where to grind at what AP, best silver per hour, money making strategies, questing guides, leveling guides, lifeskilling guides, bartering guides -- everything a new player wants to learn, they can get taught just by a simple Google search now.

- Arena of Solare = Equalized, arena-style PvP.  They finally delivered, after years and years worth of waiting.  It's pretty good, everyone I talk to is having fun in it.  Hopefully after pre-season, they will offer inticing rewards.

- Capped node war (T1) and Capped siege (castle) = Gear capped organized PvP.  What was once the pinnacle of BDO end-game (grind your butt off, get accepted into top-end guild, fight in massive PvP battles over castles was the end-goal of many PvP minded players) is easily accessible to every Season graduate.

BDO's never been easier to start and learn.  While it may not be perfect in every single department, overall, I think BDO is pretty good.

Things I'd like to see get addressed:

- Class Balance = True balance is impossible to achieve, we all know that.  This is the case for every competitive video game, aside from virtual chess, or something -- but what I'd like BDO to do is work on balance more frequently.  They tend to take forever to address class balance issues and the community is loud and clear about what changes need to be made, but they take so long to implement.  They're better now than before, but still slow IMO.

- Desync, Rubber-Banding, Elevation-Issues = This may all be tied to the game engine, so IDK how they can fix it.  Probably never will, but it's still a nagging issue that they mentioned before, but still isn't fixed.

- Central Market price adjustments = This needs to be managed better.

- Grind spot silver distribution = Silver income at grind spots should be re-evaluated in order to give greater diversity in spots players want to grind.  The META spots are just too good to pass up, in terms of time investment.  Mountain of Eternal Winter region is beautiful, IMO.  It's a shame that after getting my Flame of Frost, I see little reason to grind there since Serendia / Calpheon Elvia (primarily Orcs, Hexe, and Quint Hill) offer more for my time.  Heck, even Centaurus gives more for my time than harder areas to grind in the new region.  They should do better in this aspect.

There are more things they could work on, for sure.  These are my opinons in relation to the activities that I enjoy.  Bottom line = BDO isn't perfect, but it's gotten a lot better.  Not as P2W as before.  While still predatory, it's nothing like before and they give new players more than enough to enjoy the game, just for playing.  It's a great game if you can get into it, but I'm aware it isn't for everyone (no game really is).

To OP:  Welcome.  Let us know if you need help on your Adventures.

The old questline definetly was worse for a new player, tho it's still far from fun, or noteworthy experience.

The main problem is that the game still not teaches the new players, and it's full of noobtraps and obsolate content, it's easy to get lost, also even content what they added is just randomly thrown in without connection as whole, hence new players get lost.

And while there are guides, the majority not gonna start a game by looking for guides. At that point he is already a dedicated player who want to paly the game.

If someone just try's the game, he mostlikely starts as a regular character, doesn't even enchance, keep dying on main questline, then uninstall cause it's a shit game, as it's proven countless times on chat when someone ask why he is dyin.

Hello

I'm only three days into the game, but I must say that I'm really enjoying it. I've created a seasonal character and I'm doing the main quests.
I find the game extraordinarily complex, but I think that's part of what makes it special in a way.
My character is called TarValia (my family will eventually be called TarFam), I haven't looked for a guild yet, because I don't think I have anything to offer, and I want to enjoy it without too much hassle.
By the way, I'm a colonel (Res.), I'm fifty years old and I've been playing Eve Online for a few years. Now I wanted something different.
Forgive me if this is not the best place to introduce myself. I couldn't find a more suitable forum.

Regards
Vincent

Ah, another important advice : don't bother with the usual doomcallers and sad spirits roaming around here, they feel good only when they blame the game! ^^

Play as you wish and have fun!

I play(ed) EVE too, and guess what?  I've logged in maybe once in two months just to manage my skill training, but I plan to let my premium membership lapse.

eve online doesn't have any similarities to bdo.

Also you can just buy skill points in eve nowdays you don't need to personally train it. (Tho there was ppl who did run skill training alts, then extracted it for some profit.)

You just defined how Sandbox MMO's are for new players, thank you.  Some may see not being handheld as a "problem", as you stated.  Some may see it as "fun", since discovery, learning, and exploring are enjoyable to some people too.  Some want to be handheld and clearly shown how to navigate the content (themepark), some want to do things themselves and learn for themselves (sandbox), some want a happy medium, which I think BDO does pretty well.  I gave many supporting evidence of how it does that in my detailed post above.

BDO has gotten much more steamlined through the years and offer many, many way for players to learn the systems, but it's still a Sandbox-y MMO at heart.  Thanks for proving that by providing one piece of evidence that's common in Sandbox-y MMO's - which is not being handheld all the way through :)

If the only rebuttal you can give is "new questline isn't fun", then thanks for sharing your opinion?  I enjoyed Mountain of Eternal Winter questline.  So if you didn't like it, but I did, then we really didn't get anywhere, did we?

BDO is a Sandbox-based MMO.  Game doesn't hold your hand, that's been well known about BDO for years, even popular streamers who main BDO forever will agree.  It's not a "handholdy MMO".  But, as I mentioned the reasons above, it's never been easier to learn this game than ever before.
