I decided to share yesterday's very odd rescue attempts with you...

About 2 days ago I was on as Venomcraft sailing my ship in the deep ocean to increase her sailing. I had the call of nature, I headed off to the bathroom, and left her sailing east from Port Ratt. On my way back to the PC a family member stopped in and distracted me. When I did return, she was swimming, but there was hope in sight. I found the mysterious empty pirate ship and climbed aboard. For those who don't know, the Cholace Chico found an empty ship in the ocean and it is a barter spot. Without a ship I needed rescue.

I called my friend and they didn't get back to me until just yesterday. I joined their party and they homed in on me. Turns out my friend in the game had no idea about the node, but then he said "I am not into barter." After a few minute I hear him playing the theme to Gilligan's Island over my headset... Really? "I am in a storm.", he replied. Watch out for water spouts! "What are those?" he asked. If you have to ask, you really don't sail all that much either.

He arrived and jumped on the ship, while I made my way to the crows nest on his ship. I waited and waited. Finally he says, "I have a problem here. My ship is stuck.". We spent the next 2 hours trying to get his ship out from between the large ship and the other smaller ships. Failed solutions included more than several log off and on, calling the ship from sea, YouTube videos, even sank a phantom ship twice, etc.. I told him to stay put, I swapped to my wizard Zhanoxus and headed out to rescue him. He and I were beginning to think this node is PA's version the roach motel.

I dropped him off at Oquilla's Eye and wished him well, since he was online for hours failing to rescue Venomcraft. I decided to try (for the first time ever) an Old Moon Flare. The stupid NPC not only decided to take me back to Port Ratt, but also travels directly through the thick of pirates south of Port Ratt. I only had the cog in Port Ratt and I had about 50% life on the old "Sea Prowler". I managed to get back through ninesharks, pirates, and a wicked storm. The ship was docked and my odyssey was at an end.

Thank GOD!

What is your awesome BDO adventure?

Have fun!

I believe I have several. But my greatest... I never thought of that before. Hmm...

One time very long ago, I was sailing with my ship from port Ratt to Epheria without a compass(and I didn't need any at all). During my travel, I encountered a player swimming and avoiding the big sea monsters somewhere in the deep ocean. His ship was sunk. So... I've decided to answer to his S.O.S. He was lucky that I was passing by. I personally took him to Velia and left him there, before going to Epheria.

One season, last year, I was levelling my seasonal char(a second DK) at Desert Nagas at the seasonal PvP server. When I stopped for a moment to clear some useless heavy and cheap junk from my bag, suddenly I saw an archer coming behind me. He ALT-C on me, but I was prepared. I Q-blocked to let him unleash his flurry of attacks. When it was over, it was my time to step in and retaliate. I closed the gap and then a warrior came with PvP on. We both teamed up against the archer, even if not in group. Heheh... The archer got rekt. Me and the warr then went on our seperate ways on our grinding xp progression. ;)

I bet you'd find that most stories for this are associated with far ocean and PvP.  Which is interesting because those areas seem to draw the most criticism.  Is it just that without difficulty there isn't much of an adventure?  At least, not very memorable ones.

I know this applies to me, but I don't recall details, so really can't share :(

Pirate Island, when it was the best spot, holds some of my most fondest memories in this game.

It is a land far away from mainland, Epheria Sailboats weren't around yet, just fishing boats, so every trip needed to be planned out.  Made going there and grinding meaningful.  Staying there for a week at a time.

The spot was able to be solo grinded and group grinded (main rotation).  So it could accomodate solo players and those looking to group grind.  Finding a group could be done organically.  Appraoching a party in main rotation and asking if you can join them, in real time, since group finder didn't exist yet.  Made interactions meaningful in that sense.  Also, lots of organic, player-driven PVP could be found here as well.  Karma penalties weren't as harsh.  Holding the spot you're in was super important since channel swap cooldowns were longer.  Every interaction with others in Pirate Island meant something, unlike today.  No Marni's Realm.

My most fond memory is BDO was a huge, multi-guild GVG on Pirate Island that lasted some hours.  There were so many people that showed up, felt like more people than a node war.  Pirates was great for GVG since there is a repair guy and potion vendor nearby, in a small safe zone.  This huge GVG with multiple guilds participating was birthed via organic grind spot dispute.  I joined a group of randoms grinding main rotation when one of our group members was PK'd by member of a warring guild of his.  We, the other group members, tried to fend the attacker off, but we couldn't proceed because we'd eventually go red trying to protect our group member.  So, each of us -- from different guilds -- sent a War Dec to the offending attacker's guild.  Many of them showed up eventually to back the attacker up.  We each called more guild memebers of our own -- other guilds started showing up -- War Decs were sent out, and sides were chosen.  This GVG was huge.  Friendships were made.  Rivalries formed.  And on top of that, it was meaningful and fun.  All this, on a tiny long-since forgotten island.  I miss that place and all the memories and player-interactions it housed.  RIP Pirate Island.  You are missed, my once most favorite grind spot. :'(

That's not the first early Pirates story that I've heard, also involved big GvG. Long before my time.  Makes me wish I had run into this game earlier when I hear these.

Um - How was the lag during all that?
