I just started back after playing for maybe a month casually last season, I noticed the end of this season is the 15th. Is it worth playing with a season character right now or should I just go with my previous season charatcer on a non season server?

It's worth it. You still have 10 days or so left and you can level up to 61 really fast on the season server and get some stuff as well.

Even if you play it just to get the end of season reward, like PEN Capotia, and do nothing else, it's worth it.  Literal free gear score.  You only need to level to 25 or something like that.
