Is there any plan to keep this game relevant long term?

Dude sorry, but you should play other games every now and then. OP is right, game IS showing its age visually compared to to current gen titles (except for indie stuff) and great visuals used to be one of the major selling points of the game.

When I see tiny heads and bopping and popping blurry textures everywhere it reassures me my decision to "play" this absolutely convoluted mess only afk (it's anyways just cause of the investment made this far and no other mmorpg to take the place yet) . RIP.

Hold on I just need to finish laughing my ass of.  I played other games and most of them new I play so much other games I rarly play BDO.   And you say compared to current gen games.  Man fuck  I played some Current AAA games that look like they  where made for fucking PS2 and played Current gen games that looks nice but is utterly fucking broken you can bearly play it.

Here is the deal boy current gen AAA has gone down the shitter they are borken they are bad they are so fracking sad it make Super man 64 look like decent fucking game.  Take Lord of the rings Gollum the game is a fucking atrocity next gen my ass I have PS2 game that looks better.  Jedi Survive was so fucking ass at launch I deicded fuck that shit no amount of grapic fedlity makes me want play anymore.

Yeah yeah patches will fix the games but a game should not fucking launch like they do in this so called new gen.

BDO may not be a RTX 4090 looking epic game but it´s a far cry better than allot of other mmo games on the market.

So please take your fucking PS2 ass looking next gen games and show it up where the sun don´t shine and come back and brag about how great they look when they can make working games that does not some how still end up looking like ps2 games.

I been a gamer for 38 damn fucking years and todays games is a fucking insult to video games becuse they cut corners.

I wish people would say what they disagree with or dislike instead of just quietly downvoting. Just to clarify too, I think the game looks alright currently, it's just a thought I've been having every now and then about things going forward and how long it can last if everything stays the same while new games continue to come out. Naturally, there's other things I'd like to see as far as content goes too, but I haven't been as worried about that given that they are trying something new with Land of the Morning Light's boss fights. I know pretty graphics aren't the only thing that matters with a game too, and that stylization can carry low poly and low res assets, but I think BDO leans a little too into semi-realism to have the benefit of stylization making the visuals more timeless.

I dunno, go ahead and downvote me more I guess. I guess I was just hoping to see other people's thoughts and maybe see some hints that PA is considering something like this. Even FFXIV is working on some form of visual update for their next expansion, and BDO did do the Remastered update in the past, so that has made me a bit more optimistic about the possibility of something similar in the future.

I personally disagree with the wall of text, the title, and the follow up post that sounds like crying.  I disagree with the entire premis.  I personally think BDO is relevant for what it is.  IDGAF what WoW and FFXIV is doing to their game, I don't play those games because they are not what I look for.  BDO and those 2 games have one thing in common, they are MMOs, but that is where the similarities end.

To me BDO is still looking great. There are newer games out there who look even worse. Showing age? Absolutely not.

Also, it ain't a modeshow or something. It's a game. Visuals ain't important. I also play Diablo II myself,. Game from 2000. One of the best games around, just like Planescape: Torment. It's about what a game has to offer and for me BDO has still lot to offer.  And it has improved ovet the course of years.

I think people really misunderstood where I was coming from with my post. I like BDO. Sure I have some issues with it mechanically that I'd like to see fixed but I think everyone feels like that in some way with every game, even their favorites. Particularly for me it's things like frame rate affecting attack speed and combo possibilities plus the desync it causes. RNG stats like resistance, evasion, etc too which I feel don't really belong in an action game. The lack of group content makes it difficult to get friends into the game and have them stay too. Can't forget the issue with people playing on minimal settings for a huge advantage too, that one can often be paired with the first point about frame rate. Despite issues like that I've still stuck with BDO for several years now and enjoy the game quite a bit for numerous reasons.

The purpose behind my post was because I do like this game, and I'd like to see it stay strong for as long as possible. I don't want it to become overshadowed by other games in the future, because I like a lot of things that this game does. I'd just been really feeling like it's starting to look old when I've been playing it recently and decided to make a thread about it. Just seems like people don't get what I'm coming from or don't understand what I'm saying. Maybe I'm bad at expressing it. I don't see any reason why people who also like this game would downvote someone who just wants to see it continue to improve and have a long life.

ur initial post heavily focuses on saying that bdo is "showing it's age visually" and that you worry about "how much time is left before something else possibly comes along and tries to compete for the same audience, but with something newer and shinier" and people are showing that they don't believe in what you are trying to say. people don't believe that the game is "showing it's age visually" and no mumble of weird other reasons people dont like the game is gonna change that

As I said befoire, the problem with BDO is not the rendering, the game still looks gorgeous. That's what the engine is first and foremost made for, before any gameplay consideration.

The problem is the engine itself, which is absolutely riddled with bugs and breaches to exploit.

It was developed in less than 2 years, Q&A was never a part of their concerns

The only thing I feel is that some of the textures of the environment of the game are starting to show the game's age.

BDO is aging but , for how old the game it really isnt compared to some other games, i seen some new releases look worse than ps2 games because the gaming development area is stale because of companies like EA milking as much as they can from gamers its also true other companies are doing the same. Half baked games with content thats broken is the norm now.

Is BDO aging kinda depends on content graphics arent as bad as people say exception of view distance but even then some of the new games look awful close up an distance i also know people are comparing to The Witcher 3 (remastered) an Cyberpunk.

Is the game more stable than new games with quality of near view graphics sure, are graphics depends on which release. Its just showing advancements of technology in the game space right now is stale. BDO kinda was pinnacle of mmorpg graphics , some newer mmos are kinda matching it without the limitation of view distance(seeing throne an liberty even though it looks better has major pop in issues to  this is because no ones using direct storage yet which mmos need to start utilizing that are full open world)

@Velvy:

I'm sorry dude, I don't agree with you at all, I find the game visually gorgeous.

As many of my mates do too.

I guess it's just a personal opinion of yours and if BDO is not at your taste there's no shame with that, it's your opinion and all tastes are allowed. But you're in a minority.

The main problems in the game are the bugs, on that PA could work.

But visually, they made a hell of a job!
