Awakening Corsair needs some updates

I would open this thread on the Feedback forum, but it has to be with the reboots. Why? Let's look at the reasons why awakening corsair feels an abandoned class by the devs.

- Awakening classes usually get 4-5 weeks of updates after their release, with fixes, better flows and cancels, quality of life changes, everything the class needs after it is tested on the first weeks after release. Awakening corsair got like a single week with no real fixes, and then every time she got a patch, it was a nerf. Not a single buff, QoL patch, or fix.

- Rebooted summon damage hurt her damage, both in pve and pvp. She just got that nerf while every reworked class got their movement, damage and utility buffed. Even guardian got PvE damage buffs.

- The mermaid skill nerfs. While this was needed, it was the succession spec which made more use of these skills for their big damage, debuffs and iframe protection. Awakening never used them for damage, just as utility, since her movement isn't that great, she needed those skills to evade some grabs and big bursts of damage in PvP. If you decide to get rid of that, at least give her some better movement options to be able to evade some skills, since she can't use them for damage nor forward guard debuff like succession does.

- Since she barely got any fixes, QoL patches or better cancels, her skills are WAY too slow to cast for the current gameplay. Every other class has super fast skills and cancels with even more damage, even more with the reboots.

 

I'm not asking for huge corsair buffs, that would make the class broken. I'm asking for the fixes and quality of life patches, like better flows, cancels and Labao rework she needs, as well as her slow summons (slowest summons in the game).

Some additional feedback:

 

1) Mermaid skills were always death traps that mostly served as suicide bombing skills, as they're some of the most predictable skills with the longest fixed animations in the game. This means they are easily countered by any grab. In fact, the useless corsair harpoon grab is only ever used against other corsairs in mermaid form. Their imbalance did not come from the frames, but from the high AoE PvP damage, making them ideal for suicide bombing in group fights.

 

* Suggested fix: make the mermaid skills fully iframe or at least fully resistant to grabs, and HEAVILY NERF the PvP damage by another 50% or so. The correct way to balance mermaid skills is to greatly reduce their PvP damage while adding protection, utility, and fixing the bugs where they become unprotected randomly. Instead of nerfing iframes while leaving the PvP damage largely unchanged, adding iframes or full grab resistance while greatly reducing PvP damage would be the more reasonable solution. Otherwise, nerfing protection without fixing damage makes mermaid skills become even more "suicidal" as their only group PvP utility, which further locks corsair into a meme "nuke - respawn - nuke -respawn" NW tool with even less playstyle diversity/balance, and makes them completely useless in 1v1. 

 

2) Fix the iframe/SA bugs that randomly cause mermaid skills etc. to lose their protection. The simplest solution, as mentioned earlier, is simply extending the iframes while heavily nerfing PvP damage of these skills, this reduces coding complexity and desync potential by removing rapid shifts in protection states on skills. This also creates more diversity, utility, and breathing room for players to actually rely on their skill and response speed to dodge attacks through iframes, rather than relying on RNG resistance or praying that their 400 DP doesn't get instantly shredded by someone with 273 AP in a mindless SA trade.

 

* Suggested fix: decreasing the overall number of SA skills for all classes, increasing the overall number of FG and iframe skills, and heavily decreasing overall PvP damage across all classes is the better way to fix this current meta of RNG/desync/grab/CC -> instant deletion in 0.2 seconds by someone accidentally pressing a skill they didn't know existed without even realising you were in the hit range. This should apply not only to corsair skill protection fixes, but across the entire combat system. A single 309AP player randomly mashing buttons on their keyboard instantly killing a group of 400+ DP hard-capped opponents does not make sense in any way, whether it is for gear scaling, player skill utilisation, or simply overall enjoyment of PvP. 

 

3) Otters are useless, period. Not only do they appear AFTER the skill has already finished, they do not re-target opponents, respond very slowly, and deal next to no damage. I am not sure how this reworked AP scaling is calculated, but they are clearly doing less damage even in PvE at > 293 Kutum.

 

* Suggested fix: make otters more responsive and at least somewhat useful, even if just for PvE. Either let them re-target instead of randomly hitting an empty area where the mobs already died 5 seconds ago, or make them respond quicker like Striker clones. Labao also needs to respond INSTANTLY at low HP, since it takes less than 3 seconds to kill a player in today's meta. Or just turn Labao into a joke skill and make him slowly wiggle towards an enemy player and hug them for 2 seconds as a grab xD.

 

4) Anchors often DO NOT DROP. Anchors also DO NOT DROP when the mouse cursor is pointed beyond the skill's maximum range. This is very annoying and confusing, because the ranged skills DO NOT TELL US WHAT THEIR MAXIMUM RANGE IS. The same applies to all other ranged skill such as Wind-Piercer, Sun-Shielder, etc., where the projectile simply travels THROUGH enemies if they are out of range, or explode without doing any damage at all. Awakening Corsair already does minimal damage compared to the reworked classes, at least in pvE, (her kit did very mediocre damage even before the reworks), making anchors and projectiles randomly disappear or explode for no damage only makes it worse.

 

* Suggested fix: either provide a range indicator for these skills or make them cast/detonate at maximum range if the cursor is aimed beyond the skill's range, e.g., anchor drops at the furthest point of reach if the cursor is pointed beyond the maximum range, and make harpoon projectiles from skills such as Wind-Piercer either detonate when reaching maximum range or simply set a limit on the parabolic curve of its trajectory so that it drops to the ground at the maximum range regardless how you aim it. The same should be applied to skills of all other classes as well, at least for projectiles that do not travel completely in a straight line. Players shouldn't have to repeatedly fire their skill to figure out whether they're actually hitting their target or if their projectiles are just shooting through without doing any damage, e.g., another obvious example is Archer.

 

5. The harpoon grab...erm, either fix it and make it cancellable or cast with a faster animation like Lahn's grab, or just remove it altogether and free up the Q hotkey for us. Really. Q is a very convenient hotkey, while Shift-Q is hard on the pinky when you have to press it 500 times an hour. 

 

* Suggested fix: make it cast faster like Lahn's grab (at least we still have to aim the skill, instead of it being a no-scope) and further increase the CD to maybe 20s or so to balance it out, or JUST DELETE IT and replace the Q hotkey with Sun-Shielder -- our pinky fingers will thank you for that. 

 

Many of these fixes should not only apply to Corsair, but to the entire game combat system in general. I find it incomprehensible that devs tried to "balance" PvP mechanics that are already a broken mess of random RNG CC/desync and instant kills by further raising the damage across ALL classes without fixing the fundamental conceptual errors.

 

If the devs are truly interested in improving PvP combat experience and playability in this game, they should be looking at ways to provide greater emphasis on player input and overall skill in determining combat outcomes, not RNG, desync, SA button mashing, and end-game one-shot fests (sometimes even without CCs). Handing out free PEN gear so more new players could suffer from this RNG one-shot fest isn't going to help attract and retain players. New players will quickly burn out after they realise no amount of DP will help you survive, and regardless of how much you practice, your "skill" will only contribute minimally to PvP outcomes.

Existing Bugs: 

- When using certain skills like Riding Waves, Wave Skedaddle or Smooth sailing before Jet Stream it completly stops the stamina regen during Jet Stream. 
- Pirate's Life For Me cannot be used when stamina is empty, it requires 0 stamina to use. 
- Sea Stroll cannot be used out of Wipe Out if you used skills like Storm Surge or any of Super armor dashes right before it. Spiral Soak works fine.
- When trying to mount your horse and simultaniously trying to open up your map, you will get stuck next to your horse, unable to move or do anything. (this bug happens on multiple classes)
- Protection simply not working during skills like Spiral Soak. you will just get randomly cc'd out of them. 
- when being Knockdowned it happens that you're unable to move after standing up. using any skills makes them go on cd. after 2-3s you're able to move again. 
- When slowed to the max. you simply get cc'd out of Wave Skedaddle or other iframes.

I just hope to make Flow: Wave Skedaddle an independent skill,instead of connecting behind other skills

After REBOOT, in RBF my Corsair 404DP was killed by musa FieryCrevice and CrustCrusher two skills, I realized that Corsair is in the current patch, Corsair is rubbish, I have given up Corsair

At this stage, will be happy even if they just began to fix the bugs with the protection skills, even if the fundamental design of the mermaid training dummy is flawed to begin with.
