I think of this thread whenever I hear something especially good somewhere (usually Ody, maybe Arehaza), or especially painful (Velia, Heidel, ...), or just plain uninspired (LOML sounded ok at first, but...).  And then there's the totally disconnected.

Apparently audio dropped way down as an artistic priority.  Shame.  Or perhaps we could be thankful for the period that did exist.  Doesn't seem to be much of a thing with games anymore.  I think it's a mistake, has more of a potential effect on the bottom line than some folks appear to give it credit for.

I recently explored Ulukita a bit. I liked the visuals but music wise it is the exact same as Mediah. That does make sense as the region is a part of Mediah, but seeing as it is being treated as its own place in other areas (the region has its own map crest, capital city, etc.) it is a shame no new tracks have (yet?) been added.

When you go into a new region you expect to hear new music that sets the tone for the questing, combat, life skilling, and exploring you'll do in it. That imparts uniqueness. It's a shame thats not (yet?) there in Ulukita. This stems from the changes to the music philosophy of BDO which seems to focus on less tracks, reused tracks, and a general homogenizing of the music in the game world.

It's the same way for Star's End.  The music there should fit the vibe of the place, and it was bad even before they ruined the implemetation of the soundtracks.  They have this idea that: "oh, it's just part of Mediah, or it's just part of Calpehon.  The normal music should fit,..." even though it isn't even close.  This lazy, homogenous approach is such a turn-off and reals ruins the feal of the place.  But, since most players don't even listen to the game's sound or music, why should PA even give a darn.

They're no longer artists: they're cash-grabbing businessmen.

Laziness rules, and the law is: get the most from doing least.

So sad.

So, so sad.

Here's to Black Desert, the game that has some of the best music ever!

And a shake of my head to how PA can misuse such good music.

Music does a lot to help and hinder gameplay, and half the time, which is too often, it hurts to hear such misapplied music...

EDIT: so today, I was at Hexe Sanctuary, a great place to be, especially this time of year.  It has an awesome creepy track that really brings out the vibe of this place... you really feel like something evil is here.  And then the cacophany of other music starts playing and really ruins the mood.  General "Calpheon" tracks do not belong here.  The place feels like a joke as a result.

Awesome music poorly implemented makes my ears bleed.  To fix this, I had to mute the music and load up the proper track on YouTube and have it play.

PA:  I shouldn't have to fix your game like this.  Your music is awesome, some of the best ever!  And I have to manage the tracks to have the proper immersive experience?

I shouldn't have to do that.

I hate having to mute great music because it's playing in the wrong place at definitely the wrong time.

Thanks for nothing, PA.

It will be so nice to travel through Mediah again and hear music that is befitting it's culture and climate.  Music based off a theme completely not related to it makes no sense.  It was for Season + in 2021.  A ramped-up, cool rock tune.  Not a Middle-east, Hispanic tune so fitting for Mediah.  Following PA's logic, Haso (LoML) should have techno music and music based off some disco tune, right?  Or some screemo-rock song playing as you ride through?  It's music is messed up, as random tune play every and ruin it's feel, but Mediah was worst hit.  Especially it's boss theme.  It had the coolest boss music ever, and now it has the worst.

I will never give up hope, even though PA has continually shown us that they don't really now how to fix anything in this game.. They can sure mess things up.  I wish they could re-hire whoever made this beautiful game as it was in the first place.  It's core has (had) such awesome stuff, and now it's all strange trappings tossed on without much thought or planning, or testing.

Peace to all.

P.S.

I'm tired of hearing the menu songs playing in game.  They don't fit the mood or the action.  They aren't and weren't written to be soundtrack music.  And I'm tired of hating great songs because they're being forced on my auditory nerves at times and places where they don't belong, causing much frustration.

My poor ears..... my poor nerves......

Edit: Still having to deal with listening to out-of-place themes.  For one who appeciates what music does for an immersive experience, this implementation ruins it.  No wonder no one wants to do the questlines.  Without the proper soundtracks, it's hard to take anything seriously.  Yes, the conversations are poorly written, but proper music could still make us feel what they're trying to say.  Much more than words.  That is the power of music.

Yesterday, someone posted about creating a toggle to allow us to listen to special holiday music (Halloween and Christmas at this point) or not depending on what we'd like.  A Music toggle is what we really need.  That way, we can listen to this game's gorgeous soundtracks as we like.  PA: I love the Christmas music, but some people don't.  Let us all listen to what we like, please?  Don't shove stuff down our throats, as that just breeds contempt. Also, the easiest solution to this ear-bleeding dilemma of the soundtrack debacle you created last April 13th, would be to let us skip tracks in the infernal shuffle you imposed on us, so we can listen to the few that fit the area and mood.  Press a key, skip the obnoxious track.  I could almost forgive you the suffering I've had to endure for months now.

I beg you, PA, please do this.

Yea, a toggle would help so much or if not that then an quickly accessable game music mute button on the UI so other music can be played at will and quicker.

I played through the Ulukita questline and I did appreciate the one (two?) NEW track(s) that played at Muzgar. For half the questline snippets of Medihah music played everywhere and really made it not feel like a zone with its own character. At Muzgar the music finally made the area seem fresh and new. Sadly, it does not always play as I did arrive with the current game launch theme music playing, which was jarring.

Fully voiced and animated cutscenes are something increasing in BDO. I am noticing how the reuse of music has made its way into cutscenes and it does make them less engaging. Imagie if BDO had custom music for its cutscenes, then they would be so much better. Instead you just hear some random Balenos or Serendia track that you've heard throughout all of BDO 100s of time.

It all goes back to the music update of 13-04-2022 that's made BDO's areas a lot less unique, added battle music to life skill hotspots, and in some areas does not let even 10 seconds of any one track play before another interupts it.

Rework the music again!

One thing that I have been noticing very recently: some towns seem to have been given unique music tracks - back to the originals? I can't remember anymore.  But it seemed to pop up after the holiday music was removed (thank you for prompt removal this year, by the way :) ).  Smaller towns like Florin, Epheria, some others seem to have a bit of a unique vibe back.  Or maybe I was just noticing now for some other reason.  Someone with a better ear for that sort of thing might be able to judge better.  But it seems encouraging.  Trent, some others.  When I have the time I may go on a tour again, see what's up, if anything.

Haven't really been grinding or otherwise out in the field much (mostly ocean, LOML, training) so I can't say much about that right now.  I think I was running into it because of the new season alt that I started a couple weeks ago (scholar, yes, like so many).  I usually do all the main quests, so I'll keep my ears open along the way.

I went to Florin, and the music did what it has been for the past 21 months.

It's still broken, and it's still torture.

Music adds a lot of character, PA.  It really helps define a place and gives it character.  Having music play that has no relation to a place or situtation is distracting at least, ruins immersion at best, and really makes me hate good quality music at worst.

I really hate the older theme songs from this game now, having to hear them play in the wrong places at the wrong times, ruining the ambience and my gaming experience.  I have to turn the volume down frequently due to this.

And apparently, to you, this isn't a problem.

I wish it wasn't for me, but music has very powerful, instrinsic qualities.  Just as powerful as visuals.  I should not have to hear countryside music playing in cities.  I should not hear funeral music at a peaceful farm.  I should not hear oceanic island music far inland.  I should not hear peaceful desert shrine music or Kamasylvia forest music while fighting for my life.  Music paints powerful pictures.

I wish you could appreciate that.

Edit: And I had to turn the sound off when in Mediah yesterday........... why should I have to do this for peace of mind?

Peace
