Am I the only one who fins them really ugly and a definite downgrade from the previous design?

Not sure if you misunderstood. The design wasnt changed. The boots were simply seperated from the outfit and now are a new item you need to equip. You can find the boots in your Heidel storage if you owned the outfit before. Simply equip them and you get the same design as before (though you do need to re-dye them)
