I have been playing this game for more than 5 years. This is my first post.

The Magnus Questline is the most absolutely worst thing I have seen so far, and I am stuck at the "Some Adventurers Grave" quest. I have looked at videos and no matter what I do I cannot pass this quest.

It was painful to get to here, now I am stuck. I have only cleared two areas.

Waste of time. The stupid games and puzzles are one thing but making a quest this early that seems impossible?

I won't be touching this content until they fix the bugs. It's terrible because of the bugs

just want to put another voice on this. this magnus thing is going down on my list of really crappy implementations of ideas in games. i hope this is not an indication of things to come. when i log on to black desert to play, i want to play black desert. i do not want to play some mini-game that has nothing to do with the regular game.

if i wanted to play a minigame i would find said minigame on steam or whatever and play it.

Idk why people complain so much. A few puzzles were hard lets say tbh but not that crazy. I found the Magnus pretty fun and not that long but maybe thats just me.

I hadn't had any issues with the quests as far as knowing what to do, I just read and followed the clues and was able to do them pretty quickly. The only times when I couldn't was because of bugs where I had to just restart the game. The puzzles could have been better designed and the whole thing feels rushed. It feels like I'm a QAA for PA playing Magnus lol.

Yeah here is the problem because I have a few friends like this. I don't think they even like playing games anymore but they keep playing. Everything is "not hard" just annoying which really is code talk for I just want to skip through everything as fast as possible and get max level, max gear etc... I don't want to play the game, cut scenes are stupid annoying, it literally never ends with their whining. The sad part is there is a lot of people like this now adays and they tend to be very vocal and are destroying this industry by spewing out their empty opinions. Just look at these forums endless complaints about how awful this game is made by people who keep playing this awful game. They are seriously stuck on stupid.

What's the relationship between this nonsense and the bugs we are talking about ?

Because that's the real problem with Magnus, so much that PA had to release a guide to get around some game blocking bugs is a rush ... Even the cutscenes are bugged.

Quite a lot of the problems at launch were down to lag; it's kinda understandable for PA not to 'fix' this by buying more servers, since this fixes itself once the immediate 5-minutes-after-patch crowd suffer through it (it is questionable architecture to have one magnus server per territory, but, again, nobody's going to be in there after they've done the questline).

Many more were scripting problems, though, or just plain lack of testing. In terms of content volume, Magnus is a lot, but in terms of quality/repeatability, it's poor. Because it sets out to complete with a single-player puzzle game like Portal and falls completely on it's ass, since that's not what BDO is.

I've seen this pattern before in MMOs. What sustains BDO are fundamentally good combat and lifeskill systems. These are what have kept people playing for 6 years. But as an MMO ages, developers look to attract new players with shiny new things, and increasingly disregard the core systems - partly, I think, because turnover in the development team means an increasingly small crowd of people that actually understand them on both the design and implementation levels.

It's kinda obvious to many players that fundamental fixes to class balance, and lifeskill balance (e.g. alchemy vs cooking), would be a huge help for the game. This is not a game where class balance is a subject of debate, it's one where Solare demonstrates objectively through leaderboards how broken it is, and that's before even getting to things like desync and FPS=DPS. PvE also, objectively, doesn't reward gearing up beyond having enough gear to do Centaurs. Alch remains a joke with lightstone combos that demonstrate nobody seems to even know or care about it.

It's very arguable that even for a new player, coming in to see thriving endgame PvE/PvP content, and slick, polished, balanced and viable lifeskill professions would mean a lot more for retention than a mediocre 8-hour questline that has very little to do with the actual gameplay. But it seems a way easier pitch for devs to take to focus on those first 8 hours of new player experience than prioritise existing systems. Sadly I've never seen that end well; and on the plus side BDO's intrinsic design is so strong it avoids many potential problems with long-term MMOs like gear becoming redundant every expansion, market saturation (to a degree), and PvP is, fundamentally, not a bad system at all. So I wouldn't dramatise that this is by any means the death of the game, but I would say it's frustrating to see dev focus on this kind of short-term questline mediocrity that doesn't play to the game's strengths.

Thanks all,

I appreciate all of the feedback. I will give it a try again.. Maybe this weekend.

Like others mentioned, the non-skippable animation and the other puzzle like quests were annpying enough. Spending over an hour on that silly quest had me on edge. Especially after watching videos of how easy it should be.

V/R,

BB

Yeah the players who had brain and waited a whole week to complete it could did it with basically zero bugs or issues.

Yeah some of the quests are bad, but it's not as bugy as ppl claim.

The only thing I hate more than quests in RPGS are RPGS with content gated behind puzzles, the Magnus are both of these things. I have absolutely hated 110% of my time inside this monstrosity.
