The experience I got from the guild league:

The matchmaking is just bad - how come the guild that is on the bottom of the rank (or not even in top 100) is getting the whole evening the same top 10 guild repeatedly

Sometimes your own guildmate that joins guild league is not added to the platoon and is marked as an enemy

The enemy team can come to your spawn and wait for the beginning of the match and farm you in the dark area - and you can't do anything than just go out (and die.. again)

In the whole match there stay "active" corpses of the enemies - they won't go anywhere until you hit them (the corpses are looking like players casting a skill so you are wasting your ones on something that is not there)

Let us set the minimum stats for joining,  because for mixed guilds there might be some tuvala timmies that are just "yay, guild content" and are blocking the spot for people who are interested in pvp even if you tell them to not join

It's likely due to lack of variety of participants. PvP oriented guilds often take participation in these stuff as mandatory (or ya risk getting kicked) + they have enough people to enter. 

Meanwhile, small PvE/Casual/small PvP guilds just hope to quickly complete the event and then likely not participate anymore (for all the reasons you mentioned in your post + the fact they may not be able to pull off 10 people for this). 

They could split the whole ranking and queue to a few tiers, and allow us to see if there are other participants queued in the same time your guild does. This would help to:
- not waste 30 minutes of your lifetime, and ending with no match found, leaving at least 10 players salty
- participation awareness, e.g. if you see in queue list 5x top tier guild (no guild names, just participant amount that fits in that tier),
you could either choose to queue and risk fighting top tier guilds or wait for the time, when there is more varied participants
- create small and big scale leagues, 5-10vs5-10 and 10-15vs10-15, to increase amount of guilds being able to participate
- change queuing time conditions from every 30 minutes to more flexible range of 0-10minutes, like with AOS
