I hope it comes back somewhere maybe inland closer to a more bamboo forest area if they are going to remove it since it does have bamboos surrounding Port Ratt I think it'd be nice for it blend into a bamboo forest area. Who knows maybe they'll get rid of the Port part of the name and have a village correlating to Ratt. That's just a theory, probably giving them too much credit.

Alas, still a shame they're planning on getting rid of it.

Hello, Atharyon!

We're delighted to see you and others express such adoration and love for Port Ratt. However, we hope you'll give the new Nampo Harbor a chance as well!

As mentioned at Calpheon Ball 2022, we reworked our concept for "Haso," which was originally intended to be the sole "eastern-themed" civilization in the world of Black Desert, to that of our current Land of the Morning Light. This rework necessitated the transformation of Port Ratt into Nampo Harbor. One of our goals behind this change was to make Nampo Harbor a more comfortable experience compared to the rather cramped one that was the existing Port Ratt, especially since it will be the starting place of your adventures in the region and the meeting place of fresh and familiar faces.

And so, we welcome you to send us your feedback again after you see the new Nampo Harbor when Land of the Morning Light is playable next year!

So, nicely said, that's a no.

How about an official send-off event then, before the "transformation"?

I respectfully disagree with changing geography willy-nilly.  It ruins immersion, and makes one question if ANY location is safe to love and treat as home.   I would love to attend a funeral for Port Ratt, as Entropoid just suggested, and in this mortal world, all things must come to an end.  But just as all living things resist death, so shall I resist Port Ratt's needless demise until the bitter end.  It is my core belief that if something does't NEED change, it shouldn't be changed.  I could take the architechture, and name being changed, but this is a living world.  YOU CANNOT DELETE places and expect immersion to work.

Thanks for the reply, Cadry.

But I am saddened by it.  This game I love so much....... what is it becoming?......

I shouldn't ever have to ask that question.

Stability is key.

This is disappointing. What you call cramped is what sets city design in this game above and beyond other MMOs on the market right now. They feel like real and lived-in places, bustling with activity, that don't exist solely for the convenience of the player. They are unique and inspired. The current Port Ratt is a great example, and it also has an element of magic and mystery about it that makes you want to explore beyond the gates.

What we've seen of the redesign appears very much function over form. It looks generic and empty. Player comfort and convenience should always be considered, but when taken to the extreme you end up with open areas, sparsely populated with functional NPCs and monsters but not much else. Environment design in BDO has always avoided leaning too far in this direction, and the result has been detailed and immersive cities and landscapes.

Hopefully the end result of Nampo Harbor isn't as drab-looking as the previews make it seem, and hopefully this isn't the start of a trend towards more simplified town and region designs across the board.

GM Nox, I understand there may be "logistical" reasons, like you speak of.  We will defintely "give Nampo Harbor a chance" -- because if Port Ratt is scrapped, we won't really have a choice, if we want to continue our Adventures.  :'(

Just know that doing so removes a lot of magic and wonder that was once Port Ratt.

I did quests here and greatly anticipated walking through the locked gates to explore the inner-portion and beyond.  It was like imagining entering a different world.  I just hope that Nampo Harbor will still retain this same "magic", somehow.  It just kinda hurts to see Port Ratt go away.  There's a certain degree of wonder that will be lost....hopefully, Nampo Harbor and the new region brings an equitable amount of wonder with it.  Regardless, I can't wait to explore the new region and get my hands on the new Gloves.

PS - Could you also bless my RNG? :') TY

They should stick to their principles, and not change what they are.  NOTHING should change, ESPECIALLY land.  I was a bit miffed that they changed Cron castle, removing it's top level.    Places have identity.  You change the identity, the place no longer exists.  People love playing games that have identity.  Change that, you ruin the game.  PA messed with the soundtrack, only to the game's detriment.  They messed with visual details, to the game's detriment.  Now they want to change an entire location, and have different playstyle in Haso?  Not a fan of that.  Most of us play this game because the status quo suits us.  Mess with that, you mess with the reason we play this game,.  Mess with why we play, we will probably stop playing.  Be careful, PA!!!!

Please give us players a poll to see if we desire any big changes, and then go from there.  Thanks!

The different playstyle will be an issue preventing player progression and the plan to make it a massive boss rush will fail, Pearl Abyss would be better off finishing their incomplete work in Mediah South, Valencia south,  north east aswell as mediah, velencia mountains before rushing off to the next continent. Personally I would rather see something be completed rather then slapped together halfway through development and released as is.

The change is fine to me, I never got attached to that place because I knew it wasn't complete yet. The new structure might be for the better.

fair enough but I would rather Pearl Abyss take the time to finish it and do it right rather then rushing it and leaving it incomplete like they did with Mediah, Valencia etc. I would rather see every part of the main continent full of mobs and cities before anything happens in the eastern continent.

Yes!  I want to explore that island castle in Junaid River, south Mediah!!!

And as Entropoid suggested, I'll propose here my coming to peace with the death of Port Ratt, as I layed out in my thread on the importance of immersion in a game of BDO's caliber:

So, a great earthquake strikes the eastern continent, and Port Ratt crumbles into the sea.  Word spreads far and wide, and adventurers come by the score, to see the new place, just set up to accomadate their arrival.  It is simple and plain because it was quickly built for the adventures to come and be recieved by the east, now open to all.  Perhaps some day in the future, a path to the sunken port will be found for another mystical underwater adventure, and perhaps after the passage of time, Nampo Harbor will bloom into a beautiful, mystical place, befitting the gateway to the East.... which is actually the West...(I REALLY love that the east and west are reversed in this game!  So cool!)
