If you haven't known, most players play with 3d mini-map exactly because the 2d one is a resource hog. My theory is that it is using PC resources to transform the 3d overhead to the 2d display that we see instead of having a 2d map that it loads in.
Until they severely redesign how the UI utilizes resources, any addition to it beyond optimization, considering the current state of BDO's UI and how much it kills performance, is us griefing ourselves.
Also, isn't the map already "2d" if you just rotate it to view it directly from above?

Didn't know about the optimisation issue, never experienced it. Currently 2D minimap looks exactly like an isometric screenshot of the world rather than a converted view on 3D map.
Suggested 2D map simply because of it's simplicity, comfortable use and easier navigation without all these effects of 3D map.

You're probably still in your honeymoon phase of not optimizing your gameplay, and/or a lifeskiller that doesn't care about fps + stability. The UI is so badly optimized, that turning off auto-arrange in all of your inventory results in 1-5% increase in FPS per inventory (personal, storage, central market etc).
The current 2d map is an isometric transformation of the world, it's not a screenshot (aka an image that the game loads), which is the main reason why the map is such a performance hog.
I agree that it would be simpler and easier to navigate, but the dangers of PA fudging with the UI and worsening optimization further outweigh the benefits [not even considering that this should be very very very low on any priority list for the current state of the game].
