Hey folks, I've just purchased the free addition of BDO. I've never played before so I'm fairly ignorant.

Anyway, I have trouble with my hands, especially using the keyboard and I've been told that I might have problems with BDOs controls and combat. I don't have any trouble playing games like ArcheAge and Aion where I can use the mouse to move my character and to attack enemies (and to do just about everything). So if I can remap BDOs controls (even if it's only the forward movement key to a mouse button) then I think I'll be ok. Does anybody know if this is possible?

As for combat, is there some kind of simple mode you can select for people who suck at action combat? Just a simple 'click on monster, click on skill, monster die!' type of thing?

Thanks for any replies.

If you have trouble with shift-key and (like shift-F) and q and wasd and r and all that, and if you can't remap those to something useful, I think you'll have fundamental issues playing the game. On mouse and keyboard, the mouse is for looking and aiming, and the keyboard is for doing stuff.

They did add auto assist for KB/Mouse, but it's attrocious. You can't control what you target if you use their autoaim, so you could end up targeting a wandering deer when you're trying to target a boss monster.

This said, it's a wonderful game. So if you can afford it, I suggest you try it :)

Edit: Shift-mouse click is also a thing. If you have trouble with that you also would have trouble in the game, again, unless you can remap adequately, and I don't know if you can. My girlfriend uses a controller for BDO, but she had to manually assign the buttons.

Edit #2: If you can type on a keyboard without looking at 40 words per minute or more, you can probably play the game. If you can't, it's hit or miss. I use 40 wpm as my estimate of what type of finger dexterity you'd need :)

Thanks Deadborn5. No, I can't type very well, I can only use one finger, so I'm very slow.

I'm a little bit worried I'm not going to be able to play this game, but I guess all I can do is download it and try.

Thanks for replying =)

Have you tried using game controllers? The game has support for some controllers if that helps?

the game is free right now but I don't think it would work for you, maybe as a lifeskiller/quester, the combat is not really 1 button friendly.

I use shai with a ps5 controller, but a single finger will be troublesome.

You wanna go with shai i think, cause she is an easy character with only a few skills you need.

I like her a lot, she's so goofy and funny!

I can't help you too much with the particulars but there is a clicking system in bdo. Most use it to click between trees when lumbering because it's the fastest way. You could specialize in lumbering and perhaps branch out to stone? Easy things like that you can do. And navigate the world. But for fighting you will have a difficult time I imagine.

For someone like you, I wish a plethora of macros. And in this game, there's been an auto-aim feature added, that turns your character towards the enemy when you attack. This could prove vital for you. Check it out. I haven't tried it myself because I don't like the lessened control. But many said it was advantageous in pvp which makes me think it was an excellent implement. Anyway, macros are, as always, forbidden, but imo.. they should be able to receive special requests. Then again, if they did, cheaters would absolutely exploit that. Which is understandable, because it's a moneh thing, but it sux -.-

On the combat point of view, BDO is particularly based on fast inputs, so you may not appreciate the experience.

However, if you appreciate lifeskills, you may find something interesting. Workers and resources management, playing with the market, bartering, who knows?

Anyway, just try, and see what happens!

Yes, try! There's a lot of stuff and u can fight, i'm sure, it's just that u gona need to think about the setup and what u gona fight and how. u need to figure these things out yourself if u wana do it. no one can hold ur hand. but i sure u are very aware of that fact. And like, there's a lot more to this game than fighting. Most of it, for me, is about meeting people and socializing. I chat a lot and there's a lot of guilds with discords full of chatty kathys like me if u wana talk about something. And it's also about personal growth. U gona have to be patient in this game and u want a lot of free time. Time rewards well but the journey is supposed to last many years so it might not feel that way sometimes. Try it :)

Hey, glad you have interest in BDO. It's a great game, but has some issues you will have to deal with later. My advice is to refrain from spending money in the cash shop until a couple of months of playing.

That said, if you are able to use a controller, BDO has great controller support in-game with mappable keys. Aside from that, you will need to use keyboard WASD and mouse simultaneously at the very bare minimum.

But you can click instead of wasd? You can do that in combat too, right? I think you can. So in my mind, you could click at a mob, move cursor while you're traveling towards it, do an attax, click that in a timely fashion. Perhaps have a good series there in a row, a good rotation you can use. So once you're in a good position, u hammer on those buttons for a bit until the mobs ded.

This though: Direction + button is a wicked combo for a lotta stuff. So if u have like one finger, I figure u probably gona want to be able to use at least 2 buttons at the same time with that.

There's a guy I saw, famous (imo); Brolylegs. He has limited use of his hands and arms, and legs, and mostly hold controller with arms and play street fighter, and other games I am sure, with his mouth.

I admire him. He shows that u can do if u wana. He beat people up like that too, good fighters.

So, gotta find solution and I'm sure you ready to do that and I am hopeful it can be realized in bdo. And that you have an epic journey! I've had an amazing time with bdo this last year. Maybe leave now though, imma see.

Gl 2 u, sincerely.
