I need a laptop to play this game for the time I am travelling. Does anyone have a recommendation for a laptop that would run BDO
I do not need a lot of bells and whistles just something that wouldn't feel like a punishment to play it. Thank you
How much money are you willing to spend? How much weight do you want to carry (including power supplies and docks)? How much heat and cooling noise can you (and those traveling around you) deal with? What keyboard layouts do you like? How easy is it to clean? What ports do you want/need?
There are a lot of laptops with adequate technical specs for remastered and ultra modes, but they vary quite a bit in the above factors, which are personal calls. I would avoid laptops targeted at business / media designers though, and look at those targeted at gamers. They could all have the same or similar components and specs, but the gaming designs are easier to configure for gaming. The business ones tend to be lighter, and the media ones may have better appearing displays (though perhaps not better performing).
I remember trying this game with a i7 or i9 processor with a 1080 dedicated GPU on a laptop and it was burning up the laptop (dell gaming laptop from around 2020). When I played this on an imac 2019 edition running windows, it overheated and made it have a permanent high pitch from the GPU and the internal HDD got destroyed. When I run this with my 3080RTX it raises the temperature around me lol
I highly recommend that whatever you choose to play this game on, that you be careful. It really needs proper ventilation and a good cooling system. I honestly don't know what laptop could support this (horribly inefficient game) but I never tried it on the lowest graphic setting that makes it look like everquest.
Maybe for others to help you out, you could define what game setting you're wanting to play on. If you just want to do your dailies or whatever, you could just stream the game. I think nvidia and steam have streaming services but I don't know much about them. I think spending $10 - $15 / mo. on game streaming services to be better than to spend an additional $2k for BDO support.
Just for context, I use a MSI GE76 UE at a mid-level spec (and reasonably priced for what it is), and frequently play on ultra at 60fps in town, or 144fps at lowest settings (and probably for higher as well, but I normally only go to the extremes). The top end spec for the current build with a 360Hz or better display would be really nice https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GE76-Raider-10UX- but pricey, I'm sure.
My biggest issue is that I'm a terrible housecleaner and I really really need to clean out the dust. Temps and fan speed is significantly higher than when I first bought things. Still runs well though. For those with less dirty environments, you'll probably be fine with a year or more between cleanings.
I also have a Dell XPS17 at work with a maxed out build, actually spec'ed better than the MSI on pretty much all fronts, and a lot lighter too. But getting that one set up for some high demand use has been challenging, compared to a gaming design. Also very pricey.
Thank you for your input. Unfotunately my conscience cough wife cough has made me re-examine this desire and replaced it with a strong desire to buy new curtains.....I am underjoyed

Yeah, getting anything above 144fps on remastered mode at 2k or 4k resolution with a maxed out rig is going to be rare on PC and impossible on a laptop unless you stream it. I can't imagine what kind of NASA computer could do it at 360fps but you know, maybe BDO supports multiple GPUs but I doubt it, not many games do and a lot less so these days due to how few people even attempt it. Maybe the 40xx cards will make it possible but the 3080/3090 isn't good enough for this game. I'm skeptical but your suggestion is probably the best OP can do. Sad that curtains were the choice though. RIP

xD this maybe made me chuckle a bit harder than I should.
Cheap and can run BDO. I have a much weaker laptop that runs well enough for grinding in optimization mode. This one should do you well, just up the RAM if you can.
Get yourself a laptop that can run geforce now and a good conection and you are ok :)
I would get a GTX 1060 and a 144Hz screen for gaming in this price range. Seems many of today's options suffer from cooling problems though.
What about the Eluktronics Mech-15 G2 Pro-X?
8th Generation Intel Core i7-8750H 6-Core Processor (Up to 4.1GHz)
15.6"
1920 x 1080
16 GB RAM
480 GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
Windows 10 Home
4.50 lbs.
It has a good cooling system and good build quality (aluminum case).
It also has a 144Hz screen for a smoother gameplay. Seems it is a 72% NTSC IPS screen, so it should be quite good for this price range.
